This work was conducted to establish the efficiency of an impressed current cathodic protection system for musical instruments’ steel strings in protecting them from corrosion caused by human sweat. To conduct this research, the harmonic content degradation of a guitar string subjected to different corrosion stages by artificial human sweat, with and without cathodic protection by an impressed current, was studied. String corrosion is characterised by not only the electrochemical technique of polarisation resistance, but also by weight loss by gravimetric measurements and FESEM microscopy. From the correlation between the acoustic and electrochemical results, it can be concluded that harmonic content degradation of guitar strings increases corrosion but is less significant in the strings protected by impressed current., Funding for Open Access charge: CRUE-Universitat Politècnica de València is acknowledged.

Background and Objective: Assessment of drug cardiotoxicity is critical in the development of new compounds and modeling of drug-binding dynamics to hERG can improve early cardiotoxicity assessment. We previously developed a methodology to generate Markovian models reproducing preferential state-dependent binding properties, trapping dynamics and the onset of IKr block using simple voltage clamp protocols. Here, we test this methodology with real IKr blockers and investigate the impact of drug dynamics on action potential prolongation.
Methods: Experiments were performed on HEK cells stably transfected with hERG and using the Nanion SyncroPatch 384i. Three protocols, P-80, P0 and P40, were applied to obtain the experimental data from the drugs and the Markovian models were generated using our pipeline. The corresponding static models were also generated and a modified version of the O´Hara-Rudy action potential model was used to simulate the action potential duration.
Results: The experimental Hill plots and the onset of IKr block of ten compounds were obtained using our voltage clamp protocols and the models generated successfully mimicked these experimental data, unlike the CiPA dynamic models. Marked differences in APD prolongation were observed when drug effects were simulated using the dynamic models and the static models.
Conclusions: These new dynamic models of ten well-known IKr blockers constitute a validation of our methodology to model dynamic drug–hERG channel interactions and highlight the importance of state-dependent binding, trapping dynamics and the time-course of IKr block to assess drug effects even at the steady-state.

This research study investigates the electrooxidation of naproxen (NPX), an anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical, on modified carbon paper (CP) electrodes. Electrochemical modification of CP electrodes was accomplished with
Pt or reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-Pt coatings, resulting in the production of electroactive electrodes. RGO coatings synthesized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) for 10 scans provided the optimal coverage for the CP electrode
surface. The deposition of Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) on the electrodes (CP or CP-RGO) by CV produced a good electrode surface coverage with 20 synthesis scans. The voltammetric analysis of the electrodes in 230 mg/L NPX solution showed oxidation peaks around 1.0 to 1.2 V. Moreover, the inclusion of RGO in the coating led to an increase in the current density of these oxidation peaks and a decrease of the electrode electron transfer resistance as measured by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
The electrolysis of NPX in different electrolytes (Na2SO4 and Na2SO4/NaCl) was conducted at 1.4 V, and the removal of NPX was analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography. The CP-RGO-Pt electrode in
Na2SO4/NaCl media showed the fastest NPX degradation kinetics, resulting in a 90 % degradation in only 90 min with low charge consumption (0.07 A⋅h⋅L-1). The smaller size of Pt NPs deposited on CP-RGO, as observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, contributed to the higher electrochemical response in CV and a faster kinetic degradation of NPX., This research is part of the Spanish R + D + i contract TED2021-130905B-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by

Concerns about the health of the planet have grown dramatically, and the dyeing sector of the textile industry is one of the most polluting of all industries. Nanoclays can clean dyeing wastewater using their adsorption capacities. In this study, as a new finding, it was possible to analyze and quantify the amount of metal ions substituted by anionic dyes when adsorbed, and to determine the optimal amount of nanoclay to be used to adsorb all the dye. The tests demonstrated the specific amount of nanoclay that must be used and how to optimize the subsequent processes of separation and processing of the nanoclay. Hydrotalcite was used as the adsorbent material. Direct dyes were used in this research. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns allowed the shape recovery of the hydrotalcite to be checked and confirmed the adsorption of the dyes. An FTIR analysis was used to check the presence of characteristic groups of the dyes in the resulting hybrids. The thermo-gravimetric (TGA) tests corroborated the dye adsorption and the thermal fastness improvement. Total solar reflectance (TSR) showed increased radiation protection for UV-VIS-NIR. Through the work carried out, it has been possible to establish the maximum adsorption point of hydrotalcite.

Datos primarios asociados al artículo enviado a SAGE Open, The pandemic caused by covid-19 has revealed an enormous vulnerability in health, economic and social terms. We are facing a new unprecedented environmental and socioeconomic reality, which poses a challenge for risk control and management. This forces a methodological effort to be made in all areas in the creation of models for the prevention and prediction of existing impacts, risks, and potential threats. In Social Services’ field, we propose a tool that will allow, on the one hand, to measure the impact of COVID-19 on the Social Services system and, on the other hand, to evaluate the areas with the highest socioeconomic risk in the post-COVID scenario. The modified Delphi technique has been used to reach a consensus on a proposal of 37 indicators with a group of experts, which in the final phase resulted in 34. To our knowledge, this represents the first risk assessment tool in social services designed specifically for use at local level. The proposed tool can help determine the situation of municipal social services in relation to risk, assessing weaknesses and improving the capacity of the system., Este trabajo está financiado por el programa de ayudas a la I+D+i, en régimen de concurrencia competitiva, en el ámbito del plan andaluz de investigación, desarrollo e innovación (PAIDI 2020), dentro del proyecto de investigación “Riesgo e impacto de la covid-19 en el sistema de servicios sociales de Andalucía.
