SECEGSA Cruise (29GD20041024) carried out on the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2004, This campaign, carried out between October 29 and November 14, 2004, forms part of the collaboration agreement between the SNED / SECEG companies and the Spanish Center for Marine Technologies (CETMAR) of Vigo, using the oceanographic vessel "García del Cid "property of the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations. The areas of the Spanish and Moroccan continental shelves of the Camarinal Threshold area have been covered, up to a depth of 100 meters (approximately 100 km2). During this campaign two chains of current meters were anchored for the registration of marine currents and 1,000 km of 'last generation' side scan sonar profiles (Klein model 3000 recorder), of 700 kilometers of reflection seismic profiles have been made (Géopulse) and magnetometry and 86 samples taken from surface rocks of the seabed with gravity samples. This campaign has confirmed the results obtained in previous investigations in the Spanish and Moroccan continental shelves and in the threshold layout. The lithological samples consist mainly of flysch rocks, similar to those exposed on both sides of the strait. The recent deposits (Quaternary bioclastic sands) appear sporadically with a maximum thickness of 10 meters on the Moroccan platform and 30 meters on the Spanish platform where they occupy a larger area

CARBOGIBOP-II Cruise (29GD20051124) carried out on the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2005, The exchange of both anthropogenic and natural inorganic carbon between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea through Strait of Gibraltar was studied for a period of two years under the frame of the CARBOOCEAN.t. A comprehensive sampling program was conducted, which was design to collect samples at eight fixed stations located in the Strait in successive cruises periodically distributed through the year in order to ensure a good spatial and temporal coverage. As a result of this monitoring, a time series namely GIFT (GIbraltar Fixed Time series) has been established, allowing the generation of an extensive data set of the carbon system parameters in the area.. At each station, a temperature and salinity profile was obtained with a Seabird 911Plus CTD probe, followed by water sampling using oceanographic Niskin bottles within a rosette. Seawater samples were taken subsequently at five variable depths, which were selected on board according to the information provided by the CTD cast on the instant position of the AMI. This strategy was aimed at collecting samples within the different water bodies present in the Strait, which permitted to acquire a proper vertical profile of the variables studied through the water column. Total alkalinity (AT ), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO) and inorganic nutrients were measured in the samples,DOC, anthropogenic and natural inorganic carbon they have also been calculated using formulas

INDEMARES-5 Cruise (29GD20111031) carried out on the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2011, To study the benthic communities of the Cap de Creus canyon and the Menorca channel. The campaign was carried out on board the García del Cid Oceanographic Ship from October 31 to November 3, 2011, with the objective of carrying out as many ROV transects as possible in those areas that had not been explored in previous campaigns and to recover the Anchoring with the sediment trap of the Son Bou canyon for its maintenance and collection of accumulated samples. Each dive lasted approximately 2 to 4 hours, during which it was not possible to carry out any other type of activity on the deck (sets of dredges, CTD, etc.). A total of seven transects were made. Between dives and at dusk, after the last dive, they took advantage of activities such as trips with the Martin Rauschert dredge to characterize the infauna and megafauna communities. A total of 8 sets were made, of which two were failed. The hauls in the north zone of the channel were intensified because there is little information about the macrofauna and 5 were made in the vicinity of the Cap de Formentor, at depths ranging between 140 and 180 m. One set was made on the platform at a depth of 85 m. In order to characterize the water column at a physical-chemical level and the population of heterotrophic plankton on a seasonal basis, CTD profiles were made and water and plankton samples were collected at points previously sampled in INDEMARES 3 and 4 campaigns inside and outside of the canyon. At each sampling point, four zooplankton diurnal catches and four nocturnal zooplankton catches were made. During the course of the campaign, zooplankton fishing was attempted using two benthic light traps. On November 1, one of the traps was lost due to an incident during the haul maneuvers on deck. An attempt was made to recover the light trap using the ROV, but it was not possible to locate it. The second light trap could be recovered, although one of the mesh of the codend broke and the sample was lost. On October 31, the anchorage was recovered with a sediment trap and several sensors after having stayed a year and two months in the Son Bou canyon at a depth of 463 m. Once on the deck the jars were recovered with the sediment samples and replaced by empty bottles with 10% formaldehyde, the batteries of different sensors and the acoustic release were changed, the status of the different sensors was checked and the shackles were changed and damaged chains with the aim of prolonging the sampling one year and two months more. On November 1 the anchor was left at the same depth inside the canyon. On November 1 an attempt was made to obtain a sediment control with a HAPS sediment collector in the central zone of the Canal, however due to the characteristics of the sediment the guillotine of the collector did not complete its route and part of the sediment was lost. This campaign was the shortest of all due to bad weather. Different transects were made in lobster fishing grounds of the continental shelf in which numerous young individuals were observed. During this campaign the mooring of the Son Bou canyon was recovered and it was anchored again to prolong the sampling one more year. In the dives carried out on the platform, funds from Maërl with Paramuricea macrospina were observed. The transects made in the slope were very diverse. The transect made to the south of the channel, at the head of the Son Bou canyon, dominated the thick sand bottoms, while the transect made to the north of the channel was dominated by rock bottoms with several gorgonian species such as Viminella flagellum, Eunicella sp. and Callogorgia verticillata as well as antipathylates: Parantipathes larix, Antipathes dichotoma and Leiopathes glaberrima

ABIDES-1 Cruise (29GD20170205) carried out on the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2017, To study the transport processes from the submarine canyon flanks of the Catalan margin to deeper areas caused by the bottom trawling activities and evaluate the impact on the sedimentary substrate. To address several of the specific objectives proposed in this project objectives it will be necessary to carry out three separate oceanographic campaigns six months each other to record time series of oceanographic parameters through the anchorage of several anchors equipped with current meters, turbidimeters and sediment traps located inside submarine canyons . In the first of these campaigns, we will proceed to anchoring the anchors, in the second to the maintenance and in the third to the final recovery of the instruments, to cover an annual cycle of record the sediment transport processes and identify the contribution of the resuspension by trawling to sedimentary flows . In each one of these campaigns will be transects of CTD stations to study the seasonal variability of hydrography and formation of nephelloid layers in the column of water and surface sediment cores will be obtained . Sampling will be done both in open slope environments and in the interior of canyons submarines. The oceanographic vessel chosen for these three campaigns is the B / O García del Cid, which has the right characteristics to carry out the tasks planned and the crew is experienced with anchoring maneuvers and recovery of oceanographic anchors

RADMED-ESMARES-0620 Cruise (29GD20190618) carried out on the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2019, The BIOGAPS project aims to study the chemical, ecophysiological and environmental factors that govern the production and recycling of trace volatiles in the sea water , and obtain information that allows to diagnose or predict its distribution in the shallow ocean. In this context, the BIOGAPS cruise will address the following issues: (a) How the concentrations of volatile vary (sulfur and halogen, plus isoprene) with respect to environmental factors and diversity, production and physiology of plankton? We can diagnose or numerically simulate said variability? (b) What role organic matter plays, and its interaction with light, in the Production and recycling of trace volatiles? (c) Enzymatic activities that produce volatiles, follow circadian cycles What can be observed by gene expression? (d) Is The Mediterranean an exceptional source of atmospheric iodine, with Implications for regional health policies?
