[EN] The Collection of Decapod and Stomatopod Crustaceans of the Cádiz Oceanographic Center (CCDE-IEOCD) arose from the need to have to identify specimens of crustaceans from surveys carried out by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography in African waters. Since 2005, specimens began to be collected, with 2011 being the year in which an exhaustive taxonomic review was carried out, from which the collection was officially created.A number of 1786 records (more than 4600 specimens) belonging to the Collection of Decapoda and Stomatopoda Crustaceans from the Oceanographic Center of Cadiz (CCDE-IEOCD) are made available to GBIF. These records account for 70% of the total number of specimens currently hosted in this collection. These specimens were mostly collected in trawl surveys carried out by the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO) in African waters of Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Namibia and Mozambique, in other surveys carried out in Spanish waters of the Gulf of Cádiz or the Cantabrian Sea, or in Porcupine Bank (Ireland). It also houses specimens from the 50s of the last century, donated by the Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía (ICMAN-CSIC). In addition, we aim to have a molecular database (DNA barcode) of all the species deposited in the CCDE-IEOCD, as well as the storage of all the voucher specimens used for barcoding. There are currently 7% voucher specimens with their barcodes available., [EN] The general objective of the EcoAfrik project is to study the biodiversity of benthic ecosystems on the continental shelves and slopes off West and East Africa, with special attention to Northwest Africa (CCLME region). Tjis involves the study and identification of more than 40,000 specimens of benthic invertebrates collected in waters off Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Namibia and Mozambique http://www.ecoafrik.esThe COLECTAX program aims to create, develop and maintain a natural archive of marine fauna in the IEO. The correct taxonomic identification and revision of the species of fish and invertebrates hosted in our collections is the first step for the dissemination of biodiversity inventory in different marine areas. The accessibility to the database of the collections and its material will be key to the scientific research. The IEO currently has thousands of specimens of fish and invertebrates from very different geographical areas deposited in its reference collections in the Centers of Malaga, Cádiz, Tenerife and Vigo. It is especially relevant the material coming from the Atlantic coasts of Africa, due to their abundance and to the presence of numerous rare deep water species., [ES] La Colección de Crustáceos Decápodos y Estomatópodos del Centro Oceanográfico de Cádiz (CCDE-IEOCD) surgió a partir de la necesidad de tener que identificar ejemplares de crustáceos procedentes de campañas llevadas a cabo por el Instituto Español de Oceanografía en aguas Africanas. Desde 2005 se comenzaron a recolectar ejemplares, siendo el 2011 el año en que se realizó una exhaustiva revisión taxonómica a partir de la cual se creó la colección oficialmente.Se ponen a disposición de GBIF 1786 registros (más de 4600 especímenes) pertenecientes a la colección de Crustáceos Decápodos y Estomatópodos del Centro Oceanográfico de Cádiz (CCDE-IEOCD). Estos registros suponen el 70% del total de ejemplares depositados actualmente en esta colección. Se trata de ejemplares procedentes, en su mayoría, de campañas de arrastre realizadas por el Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO) en aguas africanas de Marruecos, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Guinea Ecuatorial, Namibia y Mozambique, otras campañas realizadas en aguas españolas del Golfo de Cádiz o Mar Cantábrico, o en el Banco de Porcupine (Irlanda). También aloja ejemplares de la década de los 50 del siglo pasado, donados por el Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía (ICMAN-CSIC). Además, se pretende tener una base de datos molecular (DNA barcode) de todas las especies depositadas en la CCDE-IEOCD, así como el almacenamiento de todos los especímenes voucher empleados para las codificaciones. La correcta identificación y revisión taxonómica de las especies de peces e invertebrados alojados en nuestras colecciones es el primer paso para la difusión del inventario de biodiversidad en diferentes áreas marinas. La accesibilidad a la base de datos de las colecciones y su material será clave para la investigación científica. El IEO cuenta actualmente con miles de especímenes de peces e invertebrados de áreas geográficas muy diferentes depositadas en sus colecciones de referencia en los Centros de Málaga, Cádiz, Tenerife y Vigo. Es especialmente relevante el material procedente de las costas atlánticas de África, debido a su abundancia y a la presencia de numerosas especies raras de aguas profundas.

Estos dates forman parte del seguimiento de la evolución de la Flora acuática de lagos y aguas estancas del Pirineo. Periódicamente se re-visitan los distintos sistemas así como se tiene una cartografía detallada con datos no solo de presencia y ausencia sino también de abundancia de las distintas especies y comunidades de vegetación de un 10% de los sistemas aquí representados. Cada dato tiene acoplado un registro de variables ambientales de la composición físico- química del agua del sistema en el momento del registro de los datos de Flora, y para el 10% de los sistemas comentados se tiene información exhaustiva de la composición y textura del sedimento y agua intersticial sobre el que se asentan las distintas comunidades de plantas acuáticas. El conjunto de datos disponibles representan aproximadamente entre un 5-10 % del total de la colección faunística del Instituto Español de Oceanografía del Centro Oceanográfico de Málaga. Pertenecen a especies ícticas de Mauritania capturadas entre 100 y 2000 m de profundidad. Incluimos 246 ejemplares tanto de teleósteos (137 especies pertenecientes a 65 familias) como elasmobranquios (20 especies pertenecientes a 6 familias), así como un ejemplar de Myxine ios.The available data through GBIF.ES represents 5-10% of the Oceanographic Center of Malaga fauna collection, Spanish Institute of Oceanography. It is made up of fish captured between 100 and 2000 m depth in Mauritania, and comprises 246 Teleostei specimens, i.e. 137 species from 65 families, some Elasmobranchii, i.e. 20 species from 6 families, and one Myxine ios specimen. The dataset comprises a subset of the information recorded in the thesis “Dung beetle traits: a conceptual, experimental and biogeographical approach”. It contains 2086 occurrences of Scarabaeidae species recorded from Mexico, Morocco and South Africa and 4 occurrences of Trogidae family from Morocco. Dung beetles specimens were surveyed along aridity gradients at the border of three deserts: Chihuahua (Mexico), Kalahari (South Africa) and Sahara (Morocco). The sampling campaigns took place before the rainy season (September 2013-14 Sahara, November 2014 Kalahari) and after the rainy season (April 2013-2014 Sahara, May 2014 Sahara and September 2015 Chihuahua). The National Spanish Museum of Sciences kept the specimens preserved at the 'Entomología' collection. Those from South Africa and Mexico were dried. A wing and elytra were extracted and pinned. The bird collections of the Estación Biológica de Doñana (EBD), as the other vertebrate collections, were mainly originated at the beginning and later consolidation of the Institute during the sixties and seventies. First of all, they are the result of the interest in comparative anatomy and biogeographic studies of the two first directors of the EBD Prof. JA Valverde and Prof. J Castroviejo. They promoted and led several biodiversity projects that were carried out world-wide and helped fulfil the necessity of reference systematic material, hardly accessible in Spain at that time. The bird collections are of outstanding scientific interest not only because of the volume of specimens housed in (more than 30.000) but also because of the areas represented in its high taxonomic diversity (about 1500 species belonging to 130 families) and finally, because it holds good series of unique species. The geographic areas covered by the collections are: Palaearctic (mainly Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Western Sahara), Aethiopic (Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Islands of the Gulf of Guinea, Angola, Gabon and Ehiopia) and Neotropics (Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Panama, Nicaragua, Mexico). Finally, of exceptional importance are the holdings of extremely rare species such as the Spanish Imperial eagle (Aquila adalberti), in a unique series in the world that gives a special character to the collections of the EBD. The dataset currently available on GBIF.ES is one part of the mammal collection, and include the following families: PODICIPEDIDAE, TINAMIDAE, GAVIIDAE, RHEIDAE, STRUTHIONIDAE, CASUARIIDAE, DROMAIIDAE, DIOMEDEIDAE, PROCELLARIIDAE, HYDROBATIDAE, PHAETHONTIDAE, SULIDAE, PHALACROCORACIDAE, ANHINGIDAE, ARDEIDAE, SCOPIDAE, CICONIIDAE, THRESKIORNITHIDAE, PHOENICOPTERIDAE, ANHIMIDAE, ANATIDAE, CATHARTIDAE, ACCIPITRIDAE. The Anphibian collections of Doñana Biological Station (EBD) were first established with the donation of the private collections of Prof. JA Valverde, a prominent Spanish zoologist and founder of the Doñana Institution itself. These collections not only presented all mainly species of the Iberian peninsula but also representatives from the fauna of the former Spanish colonies in North Africa and Western Sahara. The collections grew exponentially with the following director, Prof. Javier Castroviejo who was responsible of its enlargement and enormous expansion both in individuals and in localities represented. At present these collections hold above 15.000 specimens belonging to 150 species of about 20 families; most of them well preserved in fluid (ethanol 80%) and with complete information about origin and measurements. Amphibian holdings of the EBD collections come mainly from the Iberian peninsula but also from North Africa, Western Sahara and in lesser extent from other European areas such as Hungary and Italy. Besides, there is an important representation both from African (e.g. Equatorial Guinea) and American (Venezuela, México, Paraguay, Nicaragua and Bolivia) tropical ecosystems. Particularly well represented are remote and poorly known South American areas such as swamp savannahs (Mato Grosso), Tepui table-top mountains and high mist-rainforest of the central Andes (Bolivia) From a systematic point of view, EBD Anphibian holdings have good representations of the families Discoglossidae, Hylidae and Ranidae from Southwestern Iberia and excellent sampling of salamanders from the Cantabrian mountain range. Regarding the African continent, the families Ranidae, Pipidae and Hylidae are quite well represented as well as the neotropical families Bufonidae, Hylidae, Leptodactilidae, Aromobatidae and Dendrobatidae (Boliivia and Paraguay), and Centrolinidae, Leptodactiylidae, Pletodontidae and Microhylidae (Venezuela). Nowadays the complete data set regarding the EBD Amphibian collections is being screened and computerized. In a near future the whole information will be world-wide available through the GBIF free access portal.
