TRUST-BASED ALTRUISM FACING NEW CONTEXTS: THE VYEGWA-GIKA PYGMIES FROM BURUNDI
- Acedo Carmona, Cristina Flores
- munar, Enric

0204321, The community of Pygmies settled in Vyegwa-Gika provides an exceptional case study to
test the role of trust in the evolution of altruism. The Vyegwa-Gika Pygmies were forced to
migrate from rainforests to the savanna, changing quickly their environment, culture, and
socio-economic situation. Despite the high level of poverty they suffer in this new settlement,
we found evidence of strong altruistic attitudes toward trustees when playing an economic
game. In addition, Vyegwa-Gika Pygmies keep small personal trust networks despite the
fact they share frequent social interactions within the community. These results indicate the
great effectiveness of personal trust in fostering altruism, even if the circumstances make it
difficult to establish such kind of affective bonds. A theory of the evolution of altruism should
therefore also account for the evolution of psychology of trust, as a key element in the
process., SI

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) AND INTERNATIONALISATION STRATEGIES: A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY IN THE SPANISH CONTEXT
- Godos Díez, José Luis de
- Cabeza García, Laura
- Fernández González, Cristina
57, Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a voluntary competitive strategy that is based
upon social, economic, and environmental improvement in which the organisation is involved.
Internationalisation, a type of corporate strategy, is a set of processes that help companies to expand
globally to achieve the aim of improving their competitive position. Both of the strategies have
become more important due to ever increasing globalisation, whose consequences modify economic
and business environments, thus causing them to be more dynamic and competitive. This directly
affects business management, thus companies increasingly consider the opinion of society, attempting
to gain stakeholders’ trust through effective CSR management. In this context, this paper aims to
analyse CSR and internationalisation strategies and their possible connection from a theoretical
viewpoint. From a practical viewpoint, the relationship between both strategies is analysed while
using a sample of Spanish listed companies., SI

1345, There is evidence that relations between physicians and nurses within healthcare institutions might be shaped by informal aspects of such relations and by links to people external to the organization, with an impact on work performance. Social network analysis is underutilized in exploring such associations. The paper aims to describe physicians’ and nurses’ relationships outside their clinical units and to explore what kind of ties are related to job performance. A network analysis was performed on cross-sectional data. The study population consisted of 196 healthcare employees working in a public hospital and a primary healthcare centre in Spain. Relational data were analysed using the UCINET software package. Measures included: (i) sample characteristics; (ii) social network variables; and (iii) team performance ratings. Descriptive statistics (means, medians, percentages) were used to characterize staff and performance ratings. A correlational analysis was conducted to examine the strength of relationships between four different types of ties. Our findings suggest that external ties only contribute to improving the performance of physicians at both the individual and team level. They are focused on the decision-making process about the therapeutic plan and, therefore, might need to seek advice outside the workplace. In contrast, external ties are not relevant for the work performance of nurses, as they need to find solutions to immediate problems in a short period of time, having strong ties in the workplace. Social network analysis can illuminate relations within healthcare organizations and inform the development of innovative interventions., SI

DOES INTERNATIONAL PATENT COLLABORATION HAVE AN EFFECT ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP?
- Alonso Martínez, Daniel
- González Álvarez, Nuria
- Nieto Antolín, Mariano
[EN] Entrepreneurship is one of the main pillars of growth in any economy. Achieving a high rate of entrepreneurship in a region has become the priority objective of governments and firms. However, in many cases, new firm creation is conditioned by relations or collaboration in innovation with agents from other countries. Previous literature has analyzed the mechanisms that foster entrepreneurship. This paper attempts to shed light on the influence of international patent collaboration (IPC) on entrepreneurial activity at country level taking into account the timing of this relationship. An empirical study is proposed to verify whether IPC leads to greater entrepreneurship and to analyze the gestation period between international patenting actions and firm creation. Using the Generalized Method of Moments, the two hypotheses proposed were tested in a data panel of 30 countries for the period 2005–2017. Results show the influence of IPC in promoting entrepreneurship in the same year, but especially in the following year. The study offers implications for entrepreneurs and public agents. IPC affects the integration and interaction of international agents in a country, favors the production of new knowledge, and increases positive externalities in a territory. All this facilitates the creation of new companies with a high innovative component., SI, Publicación en abierto financiada por el Consorcio de Bibliotecas Universitarias de Castilla y León (BUCLE), con cargo al Programa Operativo 2014ES16RFOP009 FEDER 2014-2020 DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN, Actuación:20007-CL - Apoyo Consorcio BUCLE

LOCAL-SCALE DISPERSAL PATTERNS AND SUSCEPTIBILITY TO DRYOCOSMUS KURIPHILUS IN DIFFERENT CASTANEA SPECIES AND HYBRID CLONES: INSIGHTS FROM A FIELD TRIAL
- Castedo Dorado, Fernando

[EN] The chestnut gall wasp Dryocosmus kuriphilus is a major insect pest affecting chestnut trees worldwide. Medium and long-term control of this pest can be improved by using resistant or less susceptible cultivars and hybrid clones. In addition, little is known about the local patterns of dispersal of the pest. We obtained data from trees of 3 chestnut species and 27 hybrid clones in a field trial in NW Spain with the aim of evaluating the susceptibility of the material to the gall wasp and identifying possible drivers of local spatial dispersal. In the first 3 years of the invasion by D. kuriphilus, the number of trees attacked and the number of galls on each tree were spatially clustered. Tree height significantly predicted both variables, suggesting that gall wasps may use visual cues to locate suitable host trees, at least in the early stage of invasion. Assessment of the susceptibility of hybrid clones/pure species must take concurrent indicators of infestation levels into account. We suggest the use of indices involving galls on shoots because these enable good assessment of the damage to chestnut trees. The study findings add to existing knowledge on the susceptibility of hybrid chestnut clones. We report, for the first time, two hybrid clones resistant to the pest and one hybrid clone which exhibited consistently low values for all of the indicators of infestation level. The results have important implications regarding selection of plant material for use in afforestation in Spain, where the current high rate of chestnut planting is expected to continue., SI, Publicación en abierto financiada por el Consorcio de Bibliotecas Universitarias de Castilla y León (BUCLE), con cargo al Programa Operativo 2014ES16RFOP009 FEDER 2014-2020 DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN, Actuación:20007-CL - Apoyo Consorcio BUCLE

[EN] The Breast Cancer Resistance Protein (BCRP/ABCG2) is an ATP-binding cassette efflux transporter that is expressed in the apical membrane of cells from relevant tissues involved in drug pharmacokinetics such as liver, intestine, kidney, testis, brain and mammary gland, among others. Tolfenamic acid is an anti-inflammatory drug used as an analgesic and antipyretic in humans and animals. Recently, tolfenamic acid has been repurposed as an antitumoral drug and for use in chronic human diseases such as Alzheimer. The aim of this work was to study whether tolfenamic acid is an in vitro Abcg2 substrate, and to investigate the potential role of Abcg2 in plasma exposure, secretion into milk and tissue accumulation of this drug. Using in vitro transepithelial assays with cells transduced with Abcg2, we showed that tolfenamic acid is an in vitro substrate of Abcg2. The in vivo effect of this transporter was tested using wild-type and Abcg2−/− mice, showing that after oral and intravenous administration of tolfenamic acid, its area under the plasma concentration-time curve in Abcg2−/− mice was between 1.7 and 1.8-fold higher compared to wild-type mice. Abcg2−/− mice also showed higher liver and testis accumulation of tolfenamic acid after intravenous administration. In this study, we demonstrate that tolfenamic acid is transported in vitro by Abcg2 and that its plasma levels as well as its tissue distribution are affected by Abcg2, with potential pharmacological and toxicological consequences., SI

[EN] This study analyses the potential of a new eco-friendly bioproduct to construction sustainability and its contribution for improving the fresh and hardened properties of cement mortar. The bioproduct was obtained from biomass grown using crude glycerol (biodiesel production waste). With similar functionality than petrochemical-based additions, these bioproducts encourage the decrease on the use of fossil-based raw materials with the concomitant reduction in their carbon footprint. The effect of bioproduct's sonication and storage for 3 day at 4 °C were assessed. Properties such as consistence, porosity, density, compressive and flexural strength, water droplet absorption, capillary absorption, drying rate, thermal conductivity and ultrasonic pulse velocity of the bioformulated mortars were compared with a control cement mortar. The findings show that the bioproducts can be used as renewable and eco-friendly alternative to petrochemical-based polymer admixtures to lengthen mortar service life, even after storage. Sonicated bioproduct improved the water related mortar properties, while non-sonicated bioproduct developed higher mechanical properties. Contributing for a cleaner production of cementitious products, an original waste from chemical industry was transformed into a valuable raw material for use in the construction industry., SI

[EN] In this work, a sentiment analysis method that is capable of accepting audio of any length, without being fixed a priori, is proposed. Mel spectrogram and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients are used as audio description methods and a Fully Convolutional Neural Network architecture is proposed as a classifier. The results have been validated using three well known datasets: EMODB, RAVDESS and TESS. The results obtained were promising, outperforming the state-of–the-art methods. Also, thanks to the fact that the proposed method admits audios of any size, it allows a sentiment analysis to be made in near real time, which is very interesting for a wide range of fields such as call centers, medical consultations or financial brokers., SI

[EN] Knowledge about the theoretical relationship between the analyte properties and the critical chromatographic parameters is mandatory for a better interpretation of the separation mechanism and a more leisurely development of quantitative studies. In a preliminary stage of this work, we introduce the Gumbel distribution, the extreme value distribution type-I widely used in other fields, as a novel tool for modelling the chromatographic peak shape. Further, we develop mathematical models to evaluate the effect of the experimental variables and various quantum parameters on the chromatographic indices, such as the retention time, capacity factor, asymmetry factor, tailing factor and number of theoretical plates. Finally, we propose a mechanistic behaviour for the chromatographic separation process based on the structure-retention relationship of fifteen selected drugs involving several molecular quantum parameters, SI
