Objective: To evaluate the cardiac structure and function of the fetuses of pregnant women with HIV infection on combined antiretroviral treatment (cART) and the HIV-related and nonrelated determinants of abnormal findings. Design: A prospective cohort study including 42-noninfected fetuses from HIV pregnant women on cART and 84 fetuses from non-HIV-infected women. Methods: Fetal echocardiography was performed at 26–32 weeks of pregnancy to assess cardiac structure and function. The impact of maternal and perinatal factors on fetal cardiac remodelling was evaluated by multivariate regression analysis. Results: Fetuses from HIV pregnant women on cART presented larger hearts and pericardial effusion together with thicker myocardial septal walls (mean 3.56 mm (SD 0.88) vs non-HIV mean 2.75 mm (SD 0.77); P = 0.002) and smaller left ventricular cavities (10.81 mm (SD 2.28) vs 12.3 mm (SD 2.54); P = 0.033). Fetuses from HIV women also presented signs of systolic (mitral systolic annular peak velocity 5.85 cm/s (SD 0.77) vs non-HIV 6.25 cm/s (SD 0.97); P = 0.007) and diastolic (isovolumic relaxation time 52 ms (SD 8.91) vs non-HIV 45 ms (SD 7.98); P < 0.001) dysfunction. In the multivariate analysis, maternal treatment with zidovudine was the only factor significantly associated with fetal cardiac changes (P = 0.014). Conclusion: Fetuses from HIV-infected mothers on cART have cardiac remodelling and dysfunction, which might explain the cardiovascular changes described in childhood. Fetal cardiac remodelling was essentially associated with maternal treatment with zidovudine which challenges its use during pregnancy., The study was supported by grants from Instituto de Salud Carlos III y Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (PI12/00851, PI14/00226) cofinanciado por el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional de la Unión Europea ‘Una manera de hacer Europa’, Spain; Obra Social la Caixa; Cerebra Foundation for the Brain Injured Children, Carmarthen Wales, UK. Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) and premature birth are associated with higher risk of cardiovascular diseases throughout adulthood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of these factors in ventricular electrical remodeling in preadolescents. Electrocardiography was performed in a cohort of 33-IUGR, 32-preterm with appropriate weight and 60 controls. Depolarization and repolarization processes were studied by means of the surface ECG, including loops and angles corresponding to QRS and T-waves. The angles between the dominant vector of QRS and the frontal plane XY were different among the study groups: controls [20.03°(10.11°-28.64°)], preterm [25.48°(19.79°-33.56°)], and IUGR [27.77°(16.59°-33.23°)]. When compared to controls, IUGR subjects also presented wider angles between the difference of QRS and T-wave dominant vectors and the XY-plane [5.28° ± 12.15° vs 0.49° ± 14.15°, p < 0.05] while preterm ones showed smaller frontal QRS-T angle [4.68°(2.20°-12.89°) vs 6.57°(2.72°-11.31°), p < 0.05]. Thus, electrical remodeling is present in IUGR and preterm preadolescents, and might predispose them to cardiovascular diseases in adulthood. The present paper is intended as an empirically motivated discussion of some practical considerations on the use of students’ portfolios as a methodological alternative to current university pedagogical practices. After describing the defining characteristics of the portfolio as well as its purported advantages and drawbacks, the main stages involved in its elaboration and use are discussed and illustrated with examples from a portfolio-based project aimed to teach English pronunciation at the University of Murcia. A brief analysis is then presented of the content of the portfolios produced by the students taking part in that project, followed by a summary of their perceptions on the elaboration process.

This research deals with the relief of the incorporation of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) in the museums of the city of Barcelona and how they influence the behavior of the public. For research we have conducted two analyses: about online ICT, considered the web and social networks, and offline, considering the devices found in museums in Barcelona. The results show that the websites of the museums are in an early stage of improvement in the promotion, but they still maintain communication with their virtual community. The presence in social networks is a reality, although at mobile applications remain rare. As for ICT in museums, visitors remain a passive recipient because the devices are outdated and do not allow a high level of interactivity.

The HbbTV is a television standard that promotes interaction and fusion between the Internet and television. That formula to relate to the audience brings new business opportunities, especially in the advertising sector. After standardization system, the first real interactive advertising experiences conducted in Germany show that is generating a paradigm shift in the audiovisual and technology sector. In this study we analyzed the results of interactive advertising campaigns carried out by Opel Corsa, Whopper and Thor-El Reino Oscuro in the channels Sat.1, ProSieben, Kabel Eins and Sixx in Germany. In this use of the HbbTV a higher CTR other media, greater brand engagement, increased advertising recall, an option to monetize the zapping and positive results in proximity it is seen ads. It also notes that the red button on HbbTV may generate a paradigm shift in the audiovisual and technology sector, as it boosts the effectiveness of the use of HbbTV in susceptible minutes of zapping, i.e. the advertising. The viewer has the remote control, and as HbbTV offers will arouse curiosity, it grows access to marketing offers. Thus, for channels and advertisers, zapping is an option to monetize, and it emerges as an ally in this synergy between television and Internet.

Social Networking Sites (SNS) and Instant Messaging (IM) applications have become very popular in the last decade. This article aims to investigate to what extent university students make use of SNS and IM in relation with learning and university-related work. In order to do so, a survey was conducted among 115 university students. Results show that answering surveys posted by other students (for their university work), being part of groups created for doing university work or studying and sharing university-related links are some of the education-related activities that students most perform on Facebook. Alongside Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and LinkedIn are the most popular SNS or IM applications when it comes to studying, doing and organizing university-related work. Some differences among male and female students can be inferred from the data though, although it was not the aim of this study to explore such differences and further research would be needed. The paper concludes that university students make good and ample use of SNS and IM applications for education-related purposes and a recommendation for lecturers to adopt these tools is made.
