Syndecan 1 (SDC-1) is a cell surface proteoglycan with a significant role in cell adhesion, maintaining epithelial integrity. SDC1 expression is inversely related to aggressiveness in prostate cancer (PCa). During epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), loss of epithelial markers is mediated by transcriptional repressors such as SNAIL, SLUG, or ZEB1/2 that bind to E-box promoter sequences of specific genes. The effect of these repressors on SDC-1 expression remains unknown. Here, we demonstrated that SNAIL, SLUG and ZEB1 expressions are increased in advanced PCa, contrarily to SDC-1. SNAIL, SLUG and ZEB1 also showed an inversion to SDC-1 in prostate cell lines. ZEB1, but not SNAIL or SLUG, represses SDC-1 as demonstrated by experiments of ectopic expression in epithelial prostate cell lines. Inversely, expression of ZEB1 shRNA in PCa cell line increased SDC-1 expression. The effect of ZEB1 is transcriptional since ectopic expression of this gene represses SDC-1 promoter activity and ZEB1 binds to the SDC-1 promoter as detected by ChIP assays. An epigenetic mark associated to transcription repression H3K27me3 was bound to the same sites that ZEB1. In conclusion, this study identifies ZEB1 as a key repressor of SDC-1 during PCa progression and point to ZEB1 as a potentially diagnostic marker for PCa., This work was supported by the following grants: FONDECYT N° 1110269 and 1151214 (HRC), FONDECYT N° 1140417 (EAC), Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) and Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional-FEDER (SAF2016-76461-R) (AGH). MDMA exerts its main effects via the serotonergic system and the serotonin transporter. The gene coding for this transporter determines the expression rate of the transporter. Previously it was shown that healthy individuals with the short allelic variant (‘s-group’) of the 5-HTTLPR-polymorphism displayed more anxiety and negative mood, and had a lower transcriptional efficiency compared to individuals who are homozygous for the l-allele (‘l-group’). The present study aimed to investigate the role of the 5-HTTLPR polymorphism in MDMA-induced mood effects. Four placebo-controlled, within-subject studies were pooled, including in total 63 polydrug ecstasy users (Ns-group = 48; Nl-group = 15) receiving MDMA 75 mg and placebo on two test days, separated by minimally 7 days. Mood was assessed by means of the Profile of Mood States. Findings showed that MDMA induced –independent of sex- a positive mood state, and as a side effect also increased two negative affect states, anxiety and confusion. Anxiety ratings were higher in the l-group and independent of treatment or sex. Depression ratings were lowered by MDMA in the female l-group. Findings indicate that the MDMA-induced reduction in self-rated depressive feelings is sex- and genotype-dependent, with females homozygous for the l-allele showing this beneficial effect.

In the Mauritian macaque experimentally inoculated with SIV, gene polymorphisms potentially associated with the plasma virus load at a set point, approximately 100 days post inoculation, were investigated. Among the 42 animals inoculated with 50 AID50 of the same strain of SIV, none of which received any preventive or curative treatment, nine individuals were selected: three with a plasma virus load (PVL) among the lowest, three with intermediate PVL values and three among the highest PVL values. The complete genomes of these nine animals were then analyzed. Initially, attention was focused on variants with a potential functional impact on protein encoding genes (non-synonymous SNPs (NS-SNPs) and splicing variants). Thus, 424 NS-SNPs possibly associated with PVL were detected. The 424 candidates SNPs were genotyped in these 42 SIV experimentally infected animals (including the nine animals subjected to whole genome sequencing). The genes containing variants most probably associated with PVL at a set time point are analyzed herein., This work was supported by the “Investissements d’Avenir” programs managed by the ANR under reference ANR-11-INBS-0008 funding the Infectious Disease Models and Innovative Therapies (IDMIT, Fontenay-aux-Roses, France) infrastructure, and ANR-10-EQPX-02-01 funding the FlowCyTech facility (IDMIT, Fontenay-aux-Roses, France). Considering saliency in a perception inspired gamut reduction algorithm

Comunicació presentada al congrés CIC22, Color and Imaging Conference celebrat a Boston, Massachusetts, del 3 al 7 de novembre de 2014., Gamut reduction transforms the colors of an input image within the range of a target device. A good gamut reduction algorithm will preserve the experience felt by the viewer of the original image. Saliency algorithms predict the image regions where an observer first focuses. Therefore, there exists a connection between both concepts since modifying the saliency of the image will modify the viewer’s experience. However, very little attention has been given to relate saliency and gamut mapping. In this paper we propose to modify a recent gamut reduction algorithm proposed by Zamir et al. [32] in order to better respect the saliency of the original image in the reproduced one. Our results show that the proposed approach presents a gamut-mapped image whose saliency map is closer to that of the original image with a minor loss in the accuracy of perceptual reproduction.

Estudi i anàlisi de la cultura de la ciberseguretat dins la Policia de la Generalitat-Mossos d'Esquadra: reptes actuals i futurs

  • Tortellà i Muns, Marc
The culture in cybersecurity is a relatively new concept, existing for less than a decade. Following the appearance of regulations, in reference to the obligations of the administrations towards digital security in their infrastructures and the application of the protection of data regarding the service, that is given to citizens both in the public and private fields, the creation of state structures to strengthen the public administration against the new digital challenges have made organizations from all over the state, which include catalan police-Mossos d'Esquadra, make an effort to situate at high levels of competition to, on the one hand, protect their infrastructures and data with sensitive information that they manage and on the other hand strengthen the resilience of the organization towards a targeted cyber attack. This new stage of operations where cyber threats and criminality through the virtual world grow exponentially year after year has led to the creation of a culture of cybersecurity within the catalan police. In order to study it, the professional context where creations is necessary has been analyzed where we, the regulators who apply it from a practical point of view, how it is generated, what elements become part of, where it is oriented, what kind of awareness is created and what future strategic perspectives have to keep it. At the same time, it has also been analyzed and compared under the prism of the three levels of organizational culture defined by author Edgar Schein. Through a questionnaire, it has also been determined whether the culture in cybersecurity has rooted in the organization, and whether it has been adapted to premises and levels that the author mentioned.

Business plan: the creation of an inclusive hostel

  • Calafell Albó, Blanca
  • Fernández Blanco, Iris
The purpose behind this Bachelor Thesis is the creation of a new and, most important, inclusive touristic concept build upon the needs, capacities and expectations of people with intellectual disabilities. A project specially conceived and customized for the most vulnerable segment of the labour market, and where the main focus is set on creating an appealing working environment where people with disabilities are perceived as the main core of the organization. The objective of this Bachelor Thesis is to develop an inclusive lodging model that, being feasible and profitable, allows the creation of labour opportunities for a collective traditionally excluded and marginalized from the employment market. In order to develop a framework for disabled people, a business plan will be created having in mind the principles that well define a social economy and the overall structure will be conceived with a common goal: the welfare and integration of people with intellectual disabilities. The elaboration of this business plan will lead to the creation of a hostel in which part of the labour force will be constituted by people with intellectual disabilities. This is, consequently, a new inclusive tourism concept where the employees, and their respective capacities and abilities, represent the core essence of the organization. The overall corporate structure within the lodging will be built upon the capabilities and talents of a diverse and interdisciplinary group of people coordinated to achieve a common objective: providing accommodation to guests.

This paper analyzes the major errors published in the politics sections of the five main Spanish newspapers in 2012. The reaction of these newspapers to mistakes reflects as much the credibility crisis of the mainstream media as the relativism with which the ethical codes of these papers are implemented. It reflects also that the real detection of these errors will not lead to the rectification of the newspaper itself but, most of the time, to the reply of competitors or even to the subsequent silence of the authors of the mess with respect to issues which, had they been real scoops, would have had major media coverage over the following days.
