Complete spacelike hypersurfaces on symmetric spacetimes

Embargado hasta 20/02/2021, A Lorentz manifold (M, g) is said to be a conformally stationary spacetime if it is endowed with a globally defined conformal timelike vector field K, whereas it is a pp-wave when there is a globally defined parallel lightlike vector field K on M. The study of rigidity and non-existence results for spacelike hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature in these spaces has been considered in the last years by several authors. In this note we unify some known techniques and results related to both problems by considering spacelike hypersurfaces in a spacetime (M, g) endowed with a globally defined conformal causal vector field. This wide family of Lorentz manifolds not only includes previous cases, but it also includes new families of spacetimes.

Integrated control of avocado white root rot through biological and chemical methods, Control integrado de la podredumbre blanca del aguacate mediante métodos biológicos y químicos

Spain is the highest avocado producer country in the European Union. White root rot caused by the ascomycete Rosellinia necatrix is one of the most important diseases of this crop in the southern coastal area of Iberian Peninsula due to its difficult management. We studied different integrated control methods of this disease and its possible combinations. First, we detected and identified mycoviruses in R. necatrix isolates and their relation with the hypovirulence factor as a future virocontrol method. As well we obtained novel antagonistic fungi (Entoleuca sp. isolates) in which we analyzed mycoviruses presence, their growth under different temperatures, their vegetative compatibility groups and their biocontrol effect against the disease. We improved a qPCR technique for the detection and quantification of this pathogen from avocado orchards soil samples, thus we used this novel technique to assess the inoculum quantity of R. necatrix in the soil after the treatments of the fungicide fluazinam that we carried out in commercial orchards. Furthermore we performed an integrated control of this disease combining low concentrations of fluazinam with antagonist organisms such as rhizobacteria strains and/or non-pathogenic R. necatrix isolates. In this work we have studied all possible chemical and biological control methods against this disease nowadays, even some of them can be applied directly in field conditions., España es el mayor productor de aguacate en la Unión Europea. La podredumbre blanca radicular causada por el hongo ascomiceto Rosellinia necatrix Prill. es una de las enfermedades más importantes de este cultivo en la zona costera sur de la península Ibérica por su difícil manejo. Estudiamos diferentes métodos de control integrado de esta enfermedad y sus posibles combinaciones. Primero detectamos e identificamos micovirus infectando aislados de R. necatrix y su relación con el factor de hipovirulencia como un futuro método de virocontrol. También obtuvimos novedosos hongos antagonistas (aislados de Entoleuca sp.) en los que analizamos la presencia de micovirus, su crecimiento a diferentes temperaturas, sus grupos de compatibilidad vegetativa y su efecto de biocontrol contra la enfermedad. Mejoramos una técnica de qPCR para la detección y cuantificación de este patógeno en suelo a partir de muestras procedentes de fincas de aguacate, que fue utilizada como novedosa técnica para evaluar la cantidad de inóculo de R. necatrix presente en el suelo tras los tratamientos del fungicida fluazinam que realizamos en fincas comerciales para el control de la enfermedad. Además realizamos un control integrado de esta, combinando dosis bajas de fluazinam con organismos antagonistas como cepas de rizobacterias y/o aislados no patogénicos de R. necatrix. En este trabajo se han estudiado todos los posibles métodos de controles biológicos y químicos utilizables contra esta enfermedad hoy en día, pudiendo ser alguno de ellos de aplicación inmediata en campo.

The First Case of Glyphosate Resistance in Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers.) in Europe

Six Johnsongrass populations suspected of being glyphosate resistant were collected from railways and freeways near Cordoba (SW Spain), where glyphosate is the main weed control tool. The 50% reduction in shoot fresh weight (GR50) values obtained for these six populations ranged from 550.4 to 1169 g ae ha−1, which were 4.2 to 9 times greater than the value obtained for the susceptible population. Glyphosate was equally metabolized to the same extent in both resistant and susceptible populations, with no significant differences in either 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) inhibition or basal activity. No amino acid substitutions were observed in any of the resistant populations. Slight but significant differences in glyphosate penetration were observed among some but not all of the resistant populations and for the times of incubation assayed, although these differences were not considered further. The proposed primary mechanism of resistance in these six glyphosate-resistant Johnsongrass populations is reduced herbicide translocation, because the amount of glyphosate that translocated from treated leaves to shoots and roots in the susceptible population was double that observed in the resistant populations. As glyphosate multiple resistance due to more than one mechanism is not uncommon, this is the first time that glyphosate-resistant Johnsongrass populations have been fully described for all known mechanisms.

El proyecto se centra en el estudio del largo camino recorrido por la mujer desde el ámbito doméstico hasta el ámbito extradoméstico o público, desde los tiempos modernos a la actualidad. Abordándose desde la transversalidad que permiten diversas disciplinas (Historia Moderna, Historia de América, Historia del Arte y Didáctica de las Ciencias Sociales), dicho trabajo permite ser analizado desde diferentes perspectivas: mujeres que, ya desde las centurias modernas, se atreven a transgredir las normas de comportamiento vigentes; que participan en acontecimientos claves de la contemporaneidad como la revolución industrial, los movimientos obreros, el activismo político; que adquieren relevancia en el mecenazgo artístico o que, en calidad de pintoras y escultoras, convierten el arte en su profesión; así como mujeres que van asumiendo un creciente protagonismo en la educación, en la instrucción de algunas disciplinas o en la evolución de los Derechos Humanos., The project focuses on the study of the long road traveled by women from the domestic sphere to the extra-domestic or public sphere, from modern times to the present. Approaching from the transversality that allows various disciplines (Modern History, American History, Art History and Didactics of the Social Sciences), this work can be analyzed from different perspectives: women who, since the modern centuries, come to transgress the current standards of behavior; who participate in key events of contemporaneity such as the industrial revolution, the workers‟ movements, political activism; hat acquire relevance in artistic patronage or that, as painters and sculptors, make art their profession; as well as women who are assuming a growing role in education, in the education of some disciplines or in the evolution of Human Rights.

La utilidad de los algoritmos en las especialidades médicas ha sido ampliamente documentada, aunque su empleo en sanidad animal resulta poco frecuente. Para este estudio se ha creado un algoritmo que incluyó el diagnóstico diferencial de los procesos infecciosos respiratorios y digestivos en la especie porcina. A continuación, se realizó una práctica con alumnos de tercer curso del Grado en Veterinaria de la asignatura “Enfermedades Infecciosas”, a los que se les ha facilitado información y la posibilidad de solicitar hasta cuatro pruebas diagnósticas laboratoriales para identificar correctamente el agente etiológico. Tras un período para la resolución del caso, en la que solo algunos grupos identificaron correctamente la enfermedad, se les facilitó el algoritmo, lo que permitió que todos los alumnos acertaran el diagnóstico. Finalizada la práctica, a los alumnos se les pasó una encuesta acerca de su experiencia con los algoritmos y su grado de satisfacción. El uso de algoritmos ha demostrado ser útil para la resolución de casos en la asignatura de enfermedades infecciosas según el 100% de los alumnos, habiendo un 96,9% de los mismos que los consideran útiles en el ámbito profesional. La práctica ha sido evaluada con un elevado grado de satisfacción (8,72 de media)., The use of algorithms in medical specialties has been well documented. However, its use in animal health is not frequent. For this study, an algorithm on differential diagnosis of porcine infectious digestive and respiratory disorders has been designed. Then, a practice was carried out with third year students of the Degree in Veterinary Science enrolled in the subject "Infectious Diseases". During this practice, information on the outbreak was provided to the students, which had the possibility to request until four laboratory tests in order to identify the etiological agent. After a time for the resolution of the case, in which only some groups determined correctly the cause of the outbreak, the algorithm was provided to the students, which allowed to all of them the correct diagnosis of the disorder. After the practice, the students made a survey about their experience with the algorithms and their satisfaction degree. The use of algorithms was useful for the resolution of cases in the subject of infectious diseases according to 100% of the students, with 96.9% of them considering them useful in the professional work. The practice has been evaluated with a high degree of satisfaction (8.72 on average).
