Estrada comercial, conceito, morfologia e tipo: a leitura da N378 no contexto metropolitano de Lisboa

A Rua, dentro da matriz cultural ocidental, é o elemento urbano mais comum na produção de tecidos urbanos, estruturando e constituindo espaço público, local privilegiado para a sociabilização de indivíduos, mas também fundamental na organização e desenvolvimento da própria cidade. Todavia, na realidade portuguesa, as estradas adquirem hoje novas funções e configurações que frequentemente detectámos na rua tradicional, sobrepondo-as à sua função primordial. Este facto surge como consequência do acentuado crescimento urbano registado nas últimas décadas, que por sua vez levou à inclusão de troços significativos de antigas estradas nacionais nos tecidos metropolitanos. A rede de mobilidade torna-se uma estrutura relevante na ligação entre vários tecidos urbanos dispersos e desarticulados. Emergem elementos urbanos com morfologias que, nem sempre, são reconhecíveis à luz dos conceitos estabilizados. O artigo apresenta um estudo morfológico da estrada N378, localizada na metrópole de Lisboa. Esta estrada, que pode ser caracterizada como Estrada Comercial, espelha um processo de transformação de antiga estrada nacional que actualmente desempenha um papel importante na estruturação de um território urbano. A análise sobre o objecto incide sobre a sua morfogénese, morfologia e tipificação, procurando dissecá-lo e deste modo compreender melhor o fenómeno. Por outro lado, o estudo pretende contribuir para o debate sobre quais as características e potencialidades a serem exploradas nestes elementos filamentares para maior coesão e legibilidade urbana., The Street within the occidental cultural matrix is the most common morphological element in the production of urban fabrics, by structuring and building a public space network, place for the socialization of people, but also essential to organizing and developing the city itself. However, at present, the roads get new functions and configurations often detected in traditional street, overlapping them to the primary function. This comes as a consequence of strong urban growth registered in recent decades in Portugal, which in turn led to the inclusion of significant sections of old roads in metropolitan fabric. The mobility network becomes an important structure establishing links between various dispersed and disjointed urban fabrics. Emergent urban elements with morphologies that, not always, are recognizable in the stabilized concepts. This paper presents a morphological study of the N378 road, located in the metropolis of Lisbon, a Commercial Road, which reflects a transformation process of old national road that currently plays an important role in structuring an urban territory. The analysis focuses on the subject of its morphogenesis, morphology and typification, trying to dissect it and thus better understand the phenomenon. Methods for generating octree models of objects from their silhouettes

Reconstructing 3D models from their projection images has been an interesting research topic in computer vision and geometric modeling. In this paper, we review methods that generate octree models of objects from their silhouettes in images. The complexity analysis of the algorithms is developed and presented. It is concluded that the performance of the algorithms depends mostly on the number of starting images and the object shapes through their number of faces and concavities.

Shop window lighting: the use of sun to improve the visual appeal and reduce energy demand

The present study deals with the potential reduction of energy consumption for the lighting of shop window displays, which is a highly energy-consuming sector. Light has the power of attracting people´s attention, which is one of the goals of the trading and selling activity and very high illuminance levels are usually recommended. In the Mediterranean areas, where daytime lasts for many hours, commercial activity takes place mainly under sunshine conditions and shop windows frequently fail to fulfil their main corporative goal, namely the unobstructed observation of the products exhibited. The necessary increase of artificial lighting illuminance levels to accent interior light conditions, due to extremely high-luminance urban surroundings, leads to an important increase of energy consumption, as a common solution. Nevertheless, the results are generally very poor, because reflections and other kinds of visual problems still defy solution and the final result is an economic and energy waste during daytime, especially in low latitude countries. The present study evaluates the visual and energetic benefits of an innovative passive design that obstructs solar rays and redirects them into the interior of the shop window scene. A scale model of this new design confirms the visual benefits produced by its use, via the different luminance maps tested. This new lighting passive system results in a very simple, effective and low cost solution. The most important fact is that high illuminance levels are achieved and, simultaneously, there is important energy reduction, taking advantage of natural light instead of competing with sun power.

La radiación solar en el Ensanche de Barcelona: estudio tipológico de la radiación solar en las fachadas del Ensanche de Barcelona a través de un recorrido por las distintas ordenanzas urbanísticas

Las sucesivas modificaciones de las ordenanzas urbanísticas desde el año 1860 hasta el 1976, supusieron el aumento de la edificabilidad, hasta tres veces superior a la proyectada por Cerdà, en el ensanche de Barcelona. El aumento de la edificabilidad geométricamente se traducía en el aumento de la altura máxima edificable y la profundidad construible. Suponiendo una disminución del factor de vista de cielo y de la radiación solar. La disminución del factor de vista tiene su repercursión en la iluminación natural en el interior de las edificaciones, siendo la geometría la que determiana la porción de cielo vista desde un punto. En el caso de la radiación, disminuyendo la eficacia de los sistemas pasivos de captación. Pero en el caso de la radiación, no sólo vendrá determinada por la geometría del volumen que producirá el enmascaramiento, sino que también influirá el recorrido solar y la orientación. En la tesina se desarrolla un estudio tipológico de la radiación solar y del factor de vista en las fachadas del ensanche de Barcelona a través de un recorrido por las distintas ordenanzas urbanísticas.

An approach for an architecture to embodied procedural reasoning

Some research in intelligent manufacturing systems summarizes the importance of developing new methods and techniques that should be more knowledge intensive, applied at the level of embedded devices. To bring a solution for this demand we propose an embedded architecture for micro-controllers based on the hypothesis is it possible to introduce intelligence in microcontrollers by applying some solutions from the area of Multiagent Systems and in particular Belief-Desires-Intentions (BDI) agents to model intelligent computational units that are physically embedded in the world. This approach was first formulated by Deepak Kumar and it is adopted as the basis of our research. This research is focused in the development of a BDI architecture which could provide flexible reasoning capabilities wich can cope with complicated tasks executed by an embodied system. The intelligent part is based in procedural reasoning -Belief, Desires and Intentions- (BDI).

Diseño de antenas microstrip

We present a simple model for the analysis of microstrip antennas. The fields in the cavity are found from the resonance modes and the outside fields from the edge values. Numerical results for circular antennas, radiation patterns, directivity, efficiency, quality factor and impedance as a function of the feeding point and frecuency are included. Biblioteca y guardería en el barrio de Sant Martí de Provençals

Proyecto de dos equipamientos públicos (biblioteca y guardería) en el barrio de Sant Martí de Provençals (Barcelona). Estos dos edificios unificados en una única volumetría, pretenden generar unas conexiones visuales y peatonales entre la Avenida Diagonal y Can Ricart, un recinto fabril situado junto al emplazamiento. Para ello se adaptan a las dos tramas urbanas que encontramos en el barrio, la impuesta por la trama Cerdà y la antigua traza de Pere IV, que encontramos en el conjunto de edificios que conforman el recinto de Can Ricart.

Underwater seismometer validation

This work verifies and validates the calibration in a marine geophone by means of a hyperbaric chamber before and after the pressure underwater laboratory test. The objective is to characterise the transfer function according to the frequency of coupling between the geophone and the sediment. It is possible to observe the geophone coupling variations through the sediment after the test inside the water pressure at the equivalent of 200 metres depth., Peer Reviewed
