Análisis y mejora de la gestión de stock y rediseño del almacén de una empresa de laminación de papeles y films del sector alimentario

[ES] Actualmente, en la empresa objeto de estudio existen problemas de gestión de stock ya que disponen de grandes cantidades de materia prima innecesaria. Esto es debido a que la empresa prefiere tener sobrestock que tener una rotura de stock, lo que también provoca estar utilizando más espacio en el almacén del necesario. Además, esta empresa ha crecido mucho en los últimos tres años, encontrándose en una situación de falta de espacio y desorden que provocan ineficiencia y pérdida de tiempo a la hora de abastecer la materia prima a los lugares de trabajo que se requiera. Este hecho conlleva la necesidad de realizar un estudio de la demanda de los diferentes tipos de materiales y su suministro, para así calcular el nivel de stock que se necesitaría con tal de no tener roturas ni demasiado stock, así como rediseñar el almacén para optimizar el espacio disponible. Finalmente, se realiza un estudio económico y se extraen las conclusiones del trabajo., [EN] Nowadays, in the company under study there are problems of stock management because they have large amounts of unnecessary raw material. This is due to the fact that the company prefers to have overstock than to have a stock breakage, which also causes to be using more space in the warehouse than necessary. In addition, this company has grown a lot in the last three years, being in a situation of disorder that cause inefficiency and loss of time when it comes to supplying the raw material to the workplaces that are required. This fact entails the need to carry out a study of the demand for the different types of materials and their supply, in order to calculate the stock level that would be needed as long as there are no breaks or too much stock, as well as to redesign the warehouse to optimize the available space. Finally, an economic study is carried out and the conclusions of the work are extracted.

DISEÑO DE UN PLAN DE RENTABILIDAD PARA LA CREACION DE UNA EMPRESA TEXTIL INDUSTRIAL EN BURGOS

La principal característica de esta empresa seria la realización de tapizados para vehículos dedicados al ámbito agrícola. Por un lado, explicare su situación actual y sus antecedentes, centrándome en el sector textil agrícola. Por otro lado, analizare diferentes aspectos como podrían ser el análisis estratégico y el plan de operaciones. Además, realizare un plan de organización y de recursos humanos teniendo en cuenta un plan económico y financiero. The main characteristic of this company would be the realization of upholstery for vehicles dedicated to the agricultural field. On the one hand, I will explain your current situation and your background, focusing on the agricultural textile sector. On the other hand, I will analyze different aspects such as the strategic analysis and the operations plan. In addition, I will carry out an organization and human resources plan taking into account an economic and financial plan. The conclusion helps us to understand if this company could give optimal results to the expected, considering that it is a city with great relief in the automotive sector with the manufacture of different components.

Diseño y simulación de un sistema de iluminación natural energéticamente eficiente de una planta industrial dedicada a la fabricación de estibas y carpintería

[ES] En el presente trabajo se diseña un sistema pasivo de instalaciones, basado en iluminación natural, en las edificaciones de una planta industrial, dedicada a la fabricación de estibas y carpintería. Contiene la justificación de la propuesta técnica así como el estudio, análisis y determinación de sus limitaciones en la eficiencia energética de la planta. Incluirá la simulación de los sistemas de iluminación natural en los diferentes locales del sector productivo, así como la estimación, mediante software específico, de los niveles de iluminación en los planos de trabajo, coeficientes de uniformidad e índices de eficiencia energética de los diferentes locales., [EN] In the present work a passive system of facilities is designed, based on natural lighting, in the buildings of an industrial plant, dedicated to the manufacture of pallets and carpentry. It contains the justification for the technical proposal as well as the study, analysis and determination of its limitations in the energy efficiency of the plant. It will include the simulation of natural lighting systems in the different areas of the productive sector, as well as the estimation, through specific software, of the levels of illumination in the work planes, uniformity coefficients and energy efficiency indices of the different premises.

Comparison of Local Analysis Strategies for Exudate Detection in Fundus Images

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a severe and widely spread eye disease. Exudates are one of the most prevalent signs during the early stage of DR and an early detection of these lesions is vital to prevent the patient’s blindness. Hence, detection of exudates is an important diagnostic task of DR, in which computer assistance may play a major role. In this paper, a system based on local feature extraction and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification is used to develop and compare different strategies for automated detection of exudates. The main novelty of this work is allowing the detection of exudates using non-regular regions to perform the local feature extraction. To accomplish this objective, different methods for generating superpixels are applied to the fundus images of E-OPHTA database and texture and morphological features are extracted for each of the resulting regions. Deep Learning-based Approach for the Semantic Segmentation of Bright Retinal Damage

Regular screening for the development of diabetic retinopathy is imperative for an early diagnosis and a timely treatment, thus preventing further progression of the disease. The conventional screening techniques based on manual observation by qualified physicians can be very time consuming and prone to error. In this paper, a novel automated screening model based on deep learning for the semantic segmentation of exudates in color fundus images is proposed with the implementation of an end-to-end convolutional neural network built upon UNet architecture. This encoder-decoder network is characterized by the combination of a contracting path and a symmetrical expansive path to obtain precise localization with the use of context information. Identification of Individual Glandular Regions Using LCWT and Machine Learning Techniques

A new approach for the segmentation of gland units in histological images is proposed with the aim of contributing to the improvement of the prostate cancer diagnosis. Clustering methods on several colour spaces are applied to each sample in order to generate a binary mask of the different tissue components. From the mask of lumen candidates, the Locally Constrained Watershed Transform (LCWT) is applied as a novel gland segmentation technique never before used in this type of images. 500 random gland candidates, both benign and pathological, are selected to evaluate the LCWT technique providing results of Dice coefficient of 0.85. Several shape and textural descriptors in combination with contextual features and a fractal analysis are applied, in a novel way, on different colour spaces achieving a total of 297 features to discern between artefacts and true glands. The most relevant features are then selected by an exhaustive statistical analysis in terms of independence between variables and dependence with the class. 3.200 artefacts, 3.195 benign glands and 3.000 pathological glands are obtained, from a data set of 1468 images at 10x magnification. A careful strategy of data partition is implemented to robustly address the classification problem between artefacts and glands. Both linear and non-linear approaches are considered using machine learning techniques based on Support Vector Machines (SVM) and feedforward neural networks achieving values of sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 0.92, 0.97 and 0.95, respectively, This work has been funded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness under the SICAP project (DPI2016-77869-C2-1-R). Retinal Image Synthesis for Glaucoma Assessment using DCGAN and VAE Models

The performance of a Glaucoma assessment system is highly affected by the number of labelled images used during the training stage. However, labelled images are often scarce or costly to obtain. In this paper, we address the problem of synthesising retinal fundus images by training a Variational Autoencoder and an adversarial model on 2357 retinal images. The innovation of this approach is in synthesising retinal images without using previous vessel segmentation from a separate method, which makes this system completely independent. The obtained models are image synthesizers capable of generating any amount of cropped retinal images from a simple normal distribution. Furthermore, more images were used for training than any other work in the literature. Synthetic images were qualitatively evaluated by 10 clinical experts and their consistency were estimated by measuring the proportion of pixels corresponding to the anatomical structures around the optic disc. Moreover, we calculated the mean-squared error between the average 2D-histogram of synthetic and real images, obtaining a small difference of 3e-4. Further analysis of the latent space and cup size of the images was performed by measuring the Cup/Disc ratio of synthetic images using a state-of-the-art method. The results obtained from this analysis and the qualitative and quantitative evaluation demonstrate that the synthesised images are anatomically consistent and the system is a promising step towards a model capable of generating labelled images., We gratefully acknowledge the support of NVIDIA Corporation with the donation of the Titan Xp GPU used for this research. Development of a procrastination scale in Spanish and measurement of students’ procrastination tendencies

[EN] Academic procrastination (students’ tendency to postpone and/or avoid an academic task) is a widely extended phenomenon in education, especially among university students. However, there is still little research on this topic and no single validated and widely accepted instrument to measure procrastination levels at university level in Spain has been developed yet. This study aimed to cover this gap and develop a procrastionation scale adapted from two existing instruments and to measure the procrastination tendencies of a sample of 529 students from two different universities. The results showed that the Escala de Procrastinación Académica en español (EPAE) has excellent reliability (a = .929). In addition, over 17% of the sample reported high procrastination levels. Although further research is needed, this preliminary study sheds light on this topic and contributes to the development of a measurement instrument that may be used to monitor student learning and identify, among other issues, students at risk of dropout

A STEM Model Encouraging Post-Baccalaureate Pathways for First Generation, Underrepresented Undergraduates

[EN] The University of Houston-Downtown supports a STEM program, Scholars Academy (SA) within the College of Sciences and Technology dedicated to enhancing, preparing, and enlightening minority, underrepresented, and first-generation majors seeking entrance into workforce, graduate, and professional programs of preparation. Over the past 18 years the University of Houston-Downtown Scholars Academy has implemented a series of success components supporting the nurturance of post-baccalaureate graduate and professional pursuit yielding a 51% acceptance rate into medical school, over 68 professional degrees (ranging from MD to DO to DDS and DPharm) earned by alumni, over 20 PhD degrees, and over 900 minority/underrepresented undergraduates moving into professional/graduate fields. Briefly, STEM success components consist of 1) Freshman Ramp Up support; 2) Academic Skill Monitoring; 3) Mentoring, peer to peer and PhD to undergraduate; 4) Career and Research Skill Development support; and finally 5) Leadership Development through Community Engagement support.

New tools for teaching: educational cards for primary schools on the prevention of food waste

[EN] This article shows the results obtained from the creation of some educational cards for primary school pupils on the topic of the food waste prevention. The collaboration between designers and experts in the educational field was fundamental for this project: we combined the communicative and design skills of the designer with the didactics knowledge of the educators. The activities have been created on the basis of the experiential methodology, the pupils feeling themselves the protagonist of the activities, combining the traditional educational activities, also trough cross-learning of good ecological practices. The proposed activities explore the life cycle of an aliment from when it is purchased by the consumer until it is disposed of, analysing in which stages the consumer wastes food. The exercises were created to understand how to avoid or reduce food waste in those specific phases. The result of the project is composed of two different books containing the educational cards, one for teachers and families with basic information on exercises and the other one for students containing the exercises. The final objective of the educational cards is to sensitize students and adults around them on the food waste problem.
