THE NOVEL AS GLOBAL FORM PROJECT: CRITICAL RECEPTION AND CIRCULATION DATA

  • Bellido, Aitana
  • Ikoff, Ventsislav
  • Sangrà Bruguera, Marta
  • Puxan-Oliva, Marta
  • Rotger, Neus
The present dataset traces the critical reception and international circulation of a selection of contemporary novels published between years 1989 and 2021 that can be productively read through the lens of the “global novel” debate. The archive retrieves more than 1500 data entries concerning the translation, circulation and consecration of our corpus novels. This includes all original and translated editions, literary reviews and interviews with the authors in different countries, specialized academic works, awarded or short-listed literary prizes, film and theater adaptations, as well as metadata from relevant literary agents involved in their international circulation–from translators to literary agents, foreign rights agents, and publishers. These data have served as the basis for the qualitative case studies carried out within the framework of the project “The Novel as Global Form. Poetic Challenges and Cross-border Literary Circulation” (Spanish Research Agency, PID2020-118610GA-I00) of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona, Spain. Compiled data respond to the need to answer project questions such as “How globally do ‘global authors’ actually circulate?”, “What paths of circulation and recognition emerge when we consider non-Anglophone authors?”“, and “What is the role of gender in the writing and editorial process?”. In this case, data includes parameters that respond to the project research questions and might be uneven in relation to other matters, especially regarding geographical or linguistic representativeness, which was not the project’s focus. The project's selected novels are the following: Norwegian Gert Nygårdshaug’s Mengele Zoo (1989); Georgian Aka Morchiladze’s მოგზაურობა ყარაბაღში (Journey to Karabakh, 1992); Colombian Juan Gabriel Vásquez’s Historia secreta de Costaguana (The Secret History of Costaguana, 2007); Polish Olga Tokarczuk’s Bieguni (Flights, 2008); Brazilian Patricia Melo’s O Ladrão de Cadáveres (The Body Snatcher, 2010); Argentinian Ariana Harwicz’s Mátate, amor (Die, My Love, 2012); South African and Australian J. M. Coetzee’s Jesus trilogy (The Childhood of Jesus, 2013, The Schooldays of Jesus, 2016, and The Death of Jesus, 2019); Nino Haratischwili’s Das achte Leben (für Brilka) (The Eight Life (for Brilka), 2014); Brazilian Carla Madeira‘s Tudo é rio (‘Everything is Rio’, 2014); Argentinian Samanta Schweblin’s Distancia de rescate (Fever Dream, 2014); Italian Bruno Arpaia’s Qualcosa, là fuori (‘Something, Out There’, 2016); French Élisabeth Filhol’s Doggerland (2019); Lebanese Zena El Khalil’s Beirut, I Love You (2019); Catalan Irene Solà’s Canto jo i la muntanya balla (When I Sing, Mountains Dance, 2019), and Turkish-British Elif Shafak’s The Island of Missing Trees (2021).

REPLICATION DATA FOR "LEVERAGING LACTATE TRANSPORTERS FOR SUPERIOR 3-HYDROXYPROPIONIC (3-HP) ACID PRODUCTION FROM METHANOL IN KOMAGATAELLA PHAFFII"

  • Àvila-Cabré, Sílvia
  • Albiol, Joan
  • Ferrer, Pau
Supplementary files of research article "Leveraging lactate transporters for superior 3-hydroxypropionic (3-HP) acid production from methanol in Komagataella phaffii". This research paper describes a combinatorial metabolic engineering strategy aiming at increasing metabolic precursors supply and 3-HP export, applied to the original 3-HP producing K. phaffii strain harboring the synthetic β-alanine pathway and a heterologous NADP-dependent formate dehydrogenase. Several strains overexpressing the genes encoding for enzymes catalyzing reactions immediately upstream of the β-alanine pathway were constructed. To further channel flux through the heterologous NADP-dependent formate dehydrogenase, we performed the deletion of the endogenous NAD-dependent analogous enzyme. Finally, we sought to promote 3-HP export by overexpressing two monocarboxylate permeases. The constructed strains were tested on 24 deep-well plate cultivations containing buffered minimal medium (BMM) with methanol.Three independent transformants from each strain were tested. Final biomass concentration as well as methanol and 3-HP quantification were determined at the end of the cultures. The best performing strains were further characterized in aerobic fed-batch reactors following a pre-programmed exponential feeding strategy for controlled growth rate at pH values 5 and 3.5. Offline and online state variables during the fed-batch phase of the bioreactor-scale experiments were monitored and recorded. Experiments at pH 5 were carried in duplicates, while a single cultivation replicate for each strain was performed at pH 3.5. The files attached herein contain: the description of the molecular cloning materials and methods, the raw and processed data obtained from the bioreactor-scale experiments, the raw data of the online monitored standard process parameters, and the raw data obtained from the 24 deep-well plate cultivations.

This dataset is the frequency histogram of latency components in Matter message exchanges when turning on or off a lightbulb: a) over Thread, b) over Wi-Fi. The physical action of turning on an LED requires more time than turning off an LED, thus the greater Lightbulb Response time for the turn-on command. Experimental results were obtained in an indoor, home environment by using lighting application software over Matter. 100 lightbulb turn on and off actions were triggered from a remote switch in a 2-hop network topology. This test has been reproduced in two different testbeds, using Matter over Thread and Matter over Wi-Fi.

REPLICATION DATA FOR: SIDTD. SYNTHETIC DATASET OF ID AND TRAVEL DOCUMENT

  • Boned Riera, Carlos
  • Talarmain, Maxime
  • Ramos Terrades, Oriol
The SIDTD dataset is an extension of the MIDV2020 dataset. Initially, the MIDV2020 dataset is composed of forged ID documents, as all documents are generated by means of AI techniques. These generated documents are considered in the SIDTD dataset as representative of bona fide. On the other hand, the documents generated are considered as being forged versions of them. The corpus of the dataset is composed by ten European nationalities that are equally represented: Albanian, Azerbaijani, Estonian, Finnish, Greek, Lithuanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovakian, and Spanish. We employ two techniques for generating composite PAIs: Crop & Replace and inpainting. Datase contains videos, and clips, of captured ID Documents with different backgrounds, we add the same type of data for the forged ID Document images generated using the techniques described. The protocol employed to generate the dataset is as follows: We printed 191 counterfeit ID documents on paper using an HP Color LaserJet E65050 printer. Then, the documents were laminated with 100-micron-thick laminating pouches to enhance realism and manually cropped. CVC’s employees were requested to use their smartphones to record videos of forged ID documents from SIDTD. This approach aimed to capture a diverse range of video qualities, backgrounds, durations, and light intensities

GLORIA-CIEMITO

  • Altomare, Corrado
  • Xavier Gironella i Cobos
  • Joaquim Sospedra i Iglesias

The dataset describes a series of small-scale physical model tests conducted to study wave overtopping, a key factor in coastal flooding, particularly in urban areas. These tests were part of the GLORIA project, which sought to develop a novel methodology for assessing the safety of urban coastal areas under the threat of rising sea levels and intensified storm activity due to climate change. The project utilised focused wave group techniques in a small-scale wave flume at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC).

The dataset provides a detailed account of the experimental setup, instrumentation, and the range of parameters tested. This information is essential for understanding the data and for conducting further analysis and modelling of wave overtopping phenomena and focused wave groups.

The experimental tests carried out are aimed to measure the following parameters:

  • Free surface water elevations: η (m)
  • Individual maximum overtopping volume: Vmax (m3/m)
  • Overtopping flow velocities (m/s)

By means of the following instruments:

  • 8 resistive Wave gauges (WG0, …, WG7) and one acoustic wave gauge (AWG0) for the free-surface water elevation measurement along the wave flume
  • An overtopping tank system to collect the overtopped volume
  • 1 Ultrasonic sensor - AWG1 - on the dike top to measure the variation of water level inside the overtopping tank, then converted into overtopped volume
  • 1 IDS UI-31800CP-M-GL video camera
