GOLFO Cruise (29HE20010514) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2001, "Dynamic distribution of plankton and seston in the Gulf of Cadiz: scales of variability and control by physical and biological processes"GOLFO. The main objective is to know the variability in the distribution of plankton and seston in the Gulf of Cadiz in relation to the oceanographic processes that affect the basin. The project is divided into 3 subprojects. 1) Study the circulation and distribution of water masses and physical processes in this region. 2) Study the spatial variability of phytoplankton and seston as well as the control scales by physical and biological processes. 3) Study the spatial variability of the picoplankton and zooplankton fractions in this region of the Gulf of Cadiz

HITS Cruise (29HE20010907) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2001, Characterization of tsunamigenic structures in SW Iberia margin by Side Sonar TOBI. High resoultion imaging of tsunamigenic Structures in the southwest Iberian margin (Hits). The HITS campaign has been designed to determine the detailed geometry of the active seismogenic structures of the South West of the Iberian Peninsula using the TOBI high resolution sonar. In addition, to calculate the style and movement of active faults, as well as recurrence rates, the sampling and subsequent dating of the units associated with the seismic cycle of the fault is necessary, for example the landslides located at the base of the escarpment. For this purpose, we forecast the realization of several gravity cores in areas previously identified by TOBI, corroborated by multibeam. echosounder and parametric probe. Finally, to determine the possible factors that may influence the nucleation and propagation of earthquake ruptures, we plan to investigate the thermal regime of the fault zone by means of the heat flow probe and its possible escape of fluids, by means of a nephelometer / underwater camera SHRIMP
