NARCISO. (VILLARREAL).

Havia muitos parasitas, especialmente percevejos e pulgas. As colheitas eram armazenadas debaixo das camas. Dança e vida social entre os jovens. Canções no campo., How did Villarreal experience the civil war? There were many difficulties. The informant started working when he was a child, as a water carrier for his aunts, who collected acorns. Later he became a harvester. Work in the fields: cereals and harvesting; corn and cotton. The corn straw was used to make mattresses. The furniture in the houses was very precarious. There were many parasites, especially bedbugs and fleas. Crops were stored under the beds. Dancing and social life among the young people. Songs in the countryside

DEVELOPMENT OF A GREEN, QUICK, AND EFFICIENT METHOD BASED ON ULTRASOUND-ASSISTED EXTRACTION FOLLOWED BY HPLC-DAD FOR THE ANALYSIS OF BIOACTIVE GLYCOALKALOIDS IN POTATO PEEL WASTE

α-Solanine and α-chaconine are the two most predominant glycoalkaloids (GAs) present in potato. Potato peel contains a high concentration of GAs, which are especially interesting for application in the pharmaceutical industry due to their different beneficial properties (such as anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antipyretic, antiviral, fungicide, and antibiotic activities, among others); so, potato peel waste can be valorized by extracting these biologically active compounds. For this, a green, quick, and efficient miniaturized analytical approach based on ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) combined with HPLC-DAD was developed to quantify α-solanine and α-chaconine in potato peel. Some parameters of the extraction were optimized, including the extraction method, the type of solvent, and the sample/solvent ratio, by a three-factor, three-level (33) full factorial experimental design. The optimal extraction conditions were obtained with UAE using methanol as a solvent and a sample/solvent ratio of 1:10 (w/v, g/mL). The analytical greenness metric for sample preparation (AGREEprep) tool was used to assess the greenness of the methods used. The tool revealed an acceptable green analysis, with 0.61 points. The method was validated and applied to the evaluation of GAs in the peel of 15 commercial varieties of potato. The amount of glycoalkaloids found in the samples evaluated ranged from 143 to 1273 mg/kg and from 117 to 1742 mg/kg dry weight for α-solanine and α-chaconine, respectively. These results reveal the important variability that exists between potato varieties; so, their analysis is of great importance to select the most suitable ones for biovalorization (e.g., the Amandine and Rudolph varieties, with around 3000 mg/kg, in total, of both GAs). To provide higher stability to the peel during storage, freeze-drying or a medium-temperature drying process resulted preferable to avoid GA degradation. Overall, this study will contribute to the expansion of the future biovalorization of potato peel waste as well as provide a powerful analytical tool for GA analysis.

LIMITATIONS OF STATIONARY VLASOV-POISSON SOLVERS IN PROBE THEORY

  • Chiabò, Luca
  • Sánchez-Arriaga, Gonzalo
The goal of the data is showing the structure of the ion distribution function around a negatively polarized Langmuir probe with an elliptical cross section of eccentricity ep. For ep = 0 (cylindrical probe), the orbits of the ions are regular (integrable configuration) and the boundary that separates trapped and non-trapped ions in velocity space is a smooth curve. For ep ≠ 0, some orbits are chaotic (non-integrable configuration) and the boundary that separates trapped and non-trapped ions in velocity space has a fractal structure. The data also highlights the role of the numerical parameter Ntr, which control the number of loops around the probe that an ion should perform to be considered as trapped by the Vlasov-Poisson solver.

Pt(II)-BODIPY complexes combine the chemotherapeutic activity of Pt(II) with the photocytotoxicity of BODIPYs. Additional conjugation with targeting ligands can boost the uptake by cancer cells that overexpress the corresponding receptors. We describe two Pt(II) triangles, 1 and 2, built with pyridyl BODIPYs functionalized with glucose (3) or triethylene glycol methyl ether (4), respectively. Both 1 and 2 showed higher singlet oxygen quantum yields than 3 and 4, due to the enhanced singlet-to-triplet intersystem crossing. To evaluate the targeting effect of the glycosylated derivative, in vitro experiments were performed using glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1)-positive HT29 and A549 cancer cells, and noncancerous HEK293 cells as control. Both 1 and 2 showed higher cellular uptake than 3 and 4. Specifically, 1 was selective and highly cytotoxic toward HT29 and A549 cells. The synergistic chemo- and photodynamic behavior of the metallacycles was also confirmed. Notably, 1 exhibited superior efficacy toward the cisplatin-resistant R-HepG2 cells.
