GIBRALTAR Cruise (29HE20031105) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2003, GIBRALTAR: Internal waves in the Strait of Gibraltar. Induced mixing processes. The study was developed aboard two coordinated oceanographic vessels, B.O. Mytilus (CSIC) and B.I.O. Hespérides (CICYT), so that while the B.O. Mytilus worked in the strait proper, focused on the taking of observations aimed at characterization of the mechanism of generation and propagation of internal waves, as well as the physical description of them, the B.I.O. Hespérides worked mainly in the area of the Alborán Sea analyzing the biological effects associated with the effects of mixing produced by the arrival of internal waves in this area

TOMODEC Cruise (29HE20050104) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2005, TOMODEC. High resolution seismic tomography of Deception Island (Antarctica), and modelling of seismo-volcanic sources. In January 2005 a multi-parametric international experiment was conducted that encompassed both Deception Island and its surrounding waters. This experiment used as main platforms the Spanish Oceanographic vessel 'Hesperides', the Spanish Scientific Antarctic base 'Gabriel de Castilla' at Deception Island and four temporary camps deployed on the volcanic island. This experiment allowed us to record active seismic signals on a large network of seismic stations that were deployed both on land and on the seafloor. In addition other geophysical data were acquired, such as: bathymetric high precision multi-beam data, and gravimetric and magnetic profiles

The objective of this research is to obtain bioactive substances from Antarctic benthic invertebrates that provide information on the chemical ecology of the species involved, and that may be useful for their pharmacological potential. BENTART-06 Cruise (29HE20060115) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2006, The objective of this research is the study of benthic ecosystem in the southern Shetland Islands, Antarctic Peninsula and Bellinghausen Sea, very unknown areas. Samples of physical-chemical parameters of the water, biological and sediment column will be made, using dredges, biological fishing nets and an underwater robot to obtain photographs and record video. The analysis will allow us to see the effects of Agassiz-type trawl fishing techniques, as well as to establish a protocol for the minimization of the negative effects of these gear and the conservation of the benthic ecosystem

CONAFRICA Cruise (29HE20060322) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2006, "The African connection in the waters of the Canary Current" CONAFRICA. The objective of this project is to study the drift of zooplankton and ichthyoplankton in the filaments that occur in the African upwelling . To do this, samples of the upwelling will be taken and it will be verified that the species of larvae of fish transported coincide with the presence of larvae of the same species in the Great Canary platform . The work area will be swept continuously to obtain acoustic density maps. The zooplankton and ichthyoplankton will be analyzed from the vessel, obtaining synoptic maps of the hydrological conditions, fluorescence, abundance and metabolic activity of the plankton and the distribution of pelagic fish
