SOCIAL NETWORKS IN (OF) IBERO-AMERICAN FILM CULTURE DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

  • Clariana Rodagut, Ainamar
  • Cardillo, Alessio
  • Ikoff, Ventsislav
The data in this dataset encapsulate networks of relationships between intellectuals, organisations, and events in Ibero-American film field; taking as a starting point three women (the Argentinean intellectual Victoria Ocampo, the Spanish journalist María Luz Morales, and the Mexican photographer Lola Álvarez Bravo), and the relationships between Ibero-American film clubs. We expanded their range of activities and relations via the “follow the actor” tenet of Actor Network theory. The archive contains the data necessary to reproduce the visualisations presented in chapters 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 of the thesis “Networks of Women in the first Ibero-American film clubs from 1909 to 1959”, and available online in their interactive version at [https://global-ls.github.io/filmculture-socnet/]. The visualisation has been created using the open graph visualisation software Gephi 0.10.1, (https://gephi.org/) but can be obtained with any other network visualisation tool. These data contain the relationship between people, organisations, and events appearing in the networks of Lola Álvarez Bravo (LAB), María Luz Morales (MLM), Victoria Ocampo (VO), and of Ibero American film clubs (IAFC) . Each network is stored as a pair of CSV files containing, respectively, information about the nodes and the list of edges.

PEOPLE, PLACES, AND LANGUAGES IN THE CORRESPONDENCE PRESERVED IN THE ARCHIVE OF THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF INTELLECTUAL COOPERATION

  • Rodríguez-Casañ, Rubén
  • Carbó-Catalan, Elisabet
  • del Solar-Escardó, Jimena
  • Cardillo, Alessio
  • Ikoff, Ventislav
  • Roig-Sanz, Diana
The present dataset contains (meta) information extracted from the materials preserved in the archival funds of the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IIIC), which was recently digitized [available at https://atom.archives.unesco.org/iiic ]. More precisely, the dataset focuses on subseries A and F from the Series Correspondence. Using machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) techniques, we have parsed scanned documents and extracted from them meta-information like: people and location mentions, language (e.g., French), nature of material (e.g., letter vs. attached document), formal aspects (e.g., handwritten vs. typewritten), and -- if possible -- its year of publication. Moreover, we have associated these entities (e.g., a given person) and information to the specific document(s) where they appear. We have divided the dataset in three files: one focused on people and two on locations (one for countries and another for cities). This dataset has been generated within the ERC-StG project named "Social Networks of the Past: Mapping Hispanic and Lusophone Literary Modernity, 1898-1959".

SCRIPT WITH THE GREW-MATCH FORMALISATION OF GREENBERG UNIVERSALS

  • Brosa Rodríguez, Antoni
The file contains all the formalisations that have been proposed in order to be able to carry out the checks of the doctoral thesis. The file is a script ordered by universal and where other more precise or alternative linguistic formalisations related to the analysed universal are also shown. The application of this script on the first 1000 treebanks of all the Universal Dependencies corpora (2.11) is what guides the results of the thesis.
