GIBRALTAR-2 Cruise (29SG20080915) carried out on the Research Vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa in 2008, GIBRALTAR: Comprehensive analysis of the marine ecosystem of the Strait of Gibraltar: physical forcing and trophic levels.The campaign was carried out between September 14 and October 12, 2008, using the oceanographic vessel 'Sarmiento de Gamboa'. During the campaign, two Doppler current meters (ADCP) were anchored in the Spanish and Moroccan continental shelves, as well as a chain of mechanical current meters, anchored north of the Threshold, between the Cabezas de Bajos and the Paleocanal Norte. At the same time, measurements were taken of CTD (conductivity, temperature and depth) and ADCP current profiles made from the vessel 'Sarmiento de Gamboa'. Samples of water and plankton were taken at the precise times and places for the subsequent biological analyzes in the laboratory. In addition, the area was flown over by an aircraft of the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) of Spain, with a multispectral probe that made AHS lines for the observation of surface currents through the movements of chlorophyll stains and variations in water temperature

CANOA08-SUR Cruise (29SG20081102) carried out on the Research Vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa in 2008, A shallow mesoscale anticyclonic eddy, observed south of the Canary Islands with satellite altimetry, has been intensively studied with multiparametric sampling. The campaign involved multiparametric in situ sampling in the region off NW Africa, from Cadiz to Cape Verde and from the shelf break to the deep ocean: the measurements included hydrographic stations with Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) casts and water samples from a 24 Niskin-bottle rosette; continuous velocity data down to about 600 m depth with the VM-ADCP; CTD sampling with an undulating Nu-Shuttle platform; and the deployment of drifters drogued at about 100 m depth. These measurements were complemented with remote sensing data (SST and altimetry) for the whole NW Africa region

FAMOSO-1 Cruise (29SG20090306) carried out on the Research Vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa in 2009, FAMOSO (Fate of the northwestern Mediterranean open sea spring bloom), an investigation project on oceanic plankton and biogeochemical dynamics north of the IDEADOS area. During The 3 cruises sampled different oceanographic conditions, starting with early stages of the late winter-early spring bloom, followed by the late stage of the bloom, and finally summer stratification .Starting with the late winter-early spring phytoplankton bloom in FAMOSO-1: (14 to 22 March) the post-bloom in FAMOSO-2 ( 30 April to 13 May) and the late stratification in FAMOSO-3 ( 17 to 19 September). During these cruises, conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) profiles were conducted with a SBE911plus probe (SeaBird Electronics) attached to a rosette equipped with Niskin bottles. Samples were collected from 19 CTD casts for the determination of dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphate, as well as picoplankton abundance and cell properties.
