ESEPAC-2 Cruise (29HE20000116) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2000, Experimental Stimulation of Coastal Antarctic Production. The objective of the ESEPAC-2000 campaign is to recognize the factors that limit Antarctic plankton production in order to predict changes in carbon fluxes associated with changes in Antarctic plankton production. The achievement of this objective will be carried out through: 1) Experimental verification of the processes that regulate the production of plankton, through large-scale manipulation experiments in mesocosms (large incubation bags, 30000-50000 liters). 2) The comparison of the experimentally obtained predictions with observations of the planktonic dynamics in Antarctic waters of contrasting areas, by means of oceanographic sampling in diverse zones of the Antarctic Peninsula

LATITUD-IV Cruise (29HE20000317) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2000, Latitudinal patterns in regulation of the oceanic plankton production . The objective of the campaign is to study the variation of growth and mortality of the photosynthetic plankton cells throughout the different aoceanographic zones of the Central Atlantic, with special interest in tropical gyres (or oceanic deserts) where the conditions are extreme for these organisms. During the study, techniques will be applied for the first time to identify necrotic and apoptopic cells (the two described processes of cell death) in marine phytoplankton, processes that have only been observed in the laboratory. The cell death of photosynthetic plankton is a process unknown until recently, which has important consequences for the oceanic carbon cycle

TASYO Cruise (29HE20000425) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2000, Tecto-sedimentary transport from the continental margin of the Gulf of Cadiz to the Atlantic abyssal plains . The present project focuses on the geodynamic, stratigraphic and morpho-sedimentary study of the continental margin of the Gulf of Cadiz and its relationship with adjacent abyssal areas. It is intended to determine the tecto-sedimentary transport between the platform-slope of the Gulf of Cadiz and the abyssal plains of Herradura and Sena. The area is of special importance because it is very conditioned by one of the most gigantic phenomena of submarine sedimentary transport that can be known both in the Atlantic and in other oceanic areas of the world. This is due to a substrate in the sedimentary basin characterized by an olistostromica mass that conditions a high tectonic and sedimentary instability from the Mieocene to the present day

PARSIFAL Cruise (29HE20000518) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2000, Seismotectonics parameterization of the fracturing of the Atlantic margin of SW Iberia: Application of seismogenic models of tsunamis. General objective: Modeling of an active seismogenic area capable of causing large tsunamis of great social and environmental impact. Specific objectives 1) Definition of the structural, morphological and neotectonic style of the south west margin of the Iberian Peninsula by sampling sedimentary rocks (gravity corer), high resolution bathymetric cartography and reflectivity images (echographies) of the seabed. 2) Tectonic characterization of the contact between the Iberian and African plates. For this, active and passive seismic will be carried out to obtain geophysical parameters, which allow the modeling of the entire southern Atlantic margin

SCAN-2001 Cruise (29HE20001207) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2000, Geodynamics of the Scotia plate edge / Antarctic and Antarctic Deep Water paleoceanography. The project and the 2001 SCAN campaign focus on the analysis of areas that comprise the boundary between the Antarctic and Scotia plates. The basic objectives are oriented to the analysis of continental fragmentation processes and the creation of oceanographic basins. The thematic aspects include the geodynamic, petrological and seismic stratigraphy study of directional large faults, the development of backarc ocean basins, the creation of continental blocks and the paleoceanographic analysis on the evolution of Deep Antarctic Water. Special attention is paid to the establishment of the geological processes that take place at the edges of the plates. The aim is to distinguish between the factors linked to local phenomena (tectonic, sedimentary contribution) and those of a global nature (climatic-eustatic change, glacial cycles) which have controlled the paleoceanographic processes and the development of the various depositional provinces
