These data are associated to the paper with the same title and are structured according to the figures in the paper. These data correspond to the research results of the WP2 of the European Project 4D-POLYSENSE., The present dataset collects and reports the scientific results corresponding to a scientific study of a commercial and fully flexible versatile bilayer system, composed by a polypropylene (PP) mesh and a covalently bonded poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogel. In this study the mechanism responsible for cell-adhesion and de-adhesion, when the PNIPAAm-co-MBA monolayer film (adherent on one hand to the PP substrate and anti-adherent on the other hand to cell proliferation) is being employed, has been elucidated. The grafting of the hydrogel was studied and the the graft yield as well as the spectroscopic characterization (FTIR and XPS) of samples treated at different concentration of the crosslinker and different grafting time are ported in the present dataset. The scientific results of cell adhesion and biocompatibility assay are also included, being the in vitro results with fibroblast (COS-1) and epithelial (MCF-7) cells obtained with a mesh modified with a porous iPP-g-PNIPAAm bilayer system, prepared via PNIPAAm grafting for 2 h at the lowest N,NI-methylene bis(acrylamide) (MBA) concentration (1 mM).

These data are associated to the paper with the same title and are structured according to the figures in the paper.
These data correspond to the research results of the WP1 of the European Project 4D-POLYSENSE., In the scientific publication corresponding to the present dataset, a commercial and fully flexible monofilament polypropylene mesh has been used for the deposition of a thermosensitive hydrogel, generated by graft copolymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and N,NI-methylene bis(acrylamide) (MBA) monomers. The study represents an initial step for the future development of a new generation of surgical meshes, able to interact with the complex three-dimensional structure of biological tissues, as smart materials working as self-evolving motion sensors. The meshes were previously functionalized by O2-plasma method and subsequently grafted with the thermoresponive hydrogel and the data related to micro- and standard spectroscopy techniques empoyed for the characterization, such as Raman spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy and XPS, are reported in the present dataset. Additionally, the data of graft yield and thermoresponsive properties of PNIPAAm (VPTT behaviour) are included in the dataset

BREAKAGE FUNCTION DETERMINATION FOR HPGR
- Anticoi Sudzuki, Hernán Francisco|||0000-0003-4316-5203
De data base shows the results of a new methodology to determine the breakage distribution function parameters to be used in High pressure grinding rolls modelling. The piston die test tries to simulate a high pressure enviroment, thus the resulted particle size distribution can be normalized to describe a breakage mechanism. Furthermore, one example of how to obtain the breakage function parameters is presented., The modelling of high pressure grinding rolls is described by the population balance
model, a mass balance which includes several functions that are related to the mineral characteristics,
material kinetics and operative conditions of the device. The breakage distribution function is
one of these functions and refers to the way in which the daughter particles are generated by the
process of comminution. The piston-die press is presented as a methodology to determine the
breakage distribution function of two different materials, from the mechanical response point of
view: altered granite and a cal-silicate material. The aim is to determine the relation between the
operative conditions and the mineral characteristics in order to explain and predict the breakage
function parameters. The materials were characterised using XRD and single compression strength
tests. The altered granite is a brittle material, which generates more fines under single compression
conditions compared to bed compression conditions, mainly due to the mineral composition and the
response of the material to the breakage action. The cal-silicate material shows a normal trend in its
breakage behaviour. As is expected, the mineralogical characterisation is a useful tool to predict the
values of the parameters of the breakage distribution function.

These data are associated to the paper with the same title of the authors, and are structured according to the figures in the paper: http://hdl.handle.net/2117/335727, The use of Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) in oncology is being recently studied as a novel potential anti-cancer therapy. However, the beneficial effects of CAP for treating osteosarcoma have mostly been demonstrated in 2-dimensional cultures of cells, which do not mimic the complexity of the 3-dimensional (3D) bone microenvironment. In order to evaluate the effects of CAP in a relevant context of the human disease, we developed a 3D tissue-engineered model of osteosarcoma using a bone-like scaffold made of collagen type I and hydroxyapatite nanoparticles. Human osteosarcoma cells cultured within the scaffold showed a high capacity to infiltrate and proliferate and to exhibit osteomimicry in vitro. As expected, we observed significantly different functional behaviors between monolayer and 3D cultures when treated with Cold Plasma-Activated Ringer’s Solution (PAR). Our data reveal that the 3D environment not only protects cells from PAR-induced lethality by scavenging and diminishing the amount of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species generated by CAP, but also favours the stemness phenotype of osteosarcoma cells. This is the first study that demonstrates the negative effect of PAR on cancer stem-like cell subpopulations in a 3D biomimetic model of cancer. These findings will allow to suitably re-focus research on plasma-based therapies in future
