ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF GINSENG EXTRACT (GE), FERULIC ACID (FA) AND FERMENTED NONI JUICE POWDER (FNJP)

Ginseng extract (GE), ferulic acid (≥ 99%) (FA), and a fermented noni juice powder (FNJP), were investigated for their antioxidant and antimicrobial activities in vitro. For antioxidant analysis, the capacity of the three extracts (GE, FA and FNJP) to inhibit polyphenol oxidase from three vegetable matrices (potato, apple or mushroom) and the peroxidation prevention of three types fats (sunflower oil, olive oil and butter) were studied (AGRIMAX_IA_EXTRACTS_AOX_PPO_IRTA_05112021; AGRIMAX_IA_EXTRACTS_AOX_PEROX_IRTA_05112021). The extracts’ antimicrobial activity was studied on thirteen bacterial strains using the disk diffusion assay and the microdilution assay (AGRIMAX_IA_GE_AM_IRTA_05112021; AGRIMAX_IA_FA_AM_IRTA_05112021; AGRIMAX_IA_FNJP_AM_IRTA_05112021; AGRIMAX_IA_EXTRACTS_AM_MIC_IRTA_05112021.). The results obtained suggest the potential of GE, FA and FNJP for its further application in food industries. The data were obtained in the microbiology laboratory of IRTA Fruitcentre (Lleida, Catalonia). These data are the result of the average of 3 replicates (± standard deviation, sd) where the antioxidant and antimicrobial effect of ginseng extract (GE), ferulic acid (FA) and FNJP are studied. The results of this research are part of the AGRIMAX H2020 project.

Data collected within the framework of the ERC project "The sound of special places: exploring rock art soundscapes and the sacred" (acronym: Artsoundscapes, PI ICREA Research Professor Margarita Díaz-Andreu). The project focuses on the relationship between archaeoacoustics and rock art. The audio files are the impulse responses (IR) gathered in the Lower Chuya Valley area, in particular at the rock art sites of Kalbak-Tash I, Kalbak-Tash II and Adyr-Kan, Altai (Siberia). The tables include the acoustic data derived from those impulse responses.

DATA OF A STUDY OF SEX PHEROMONE DETECTION BY FEMALES OF THE ORIENTAL FRUIT MOTH, GRAPHOLITA MOLESTA

The study explores if female Grapholita molesta moths can detect its own sex pheromone. The approach involves electroantennography (EAG), single -sensillum recordings (SSR), analyzed with non-linear dose-response and hierarchical cluster analysis. The excel file contains the data, the word file contains the R code. The data are from 3 different experiments. Experiment 1 is the electroantennographic (EAG) response of male and female Grapholita molesta adults to the female sex pheromone components, Z8-12:Ac and E8-12:Ac. Experiment 2 are single-sensillum recordings (SSR) of Z- and E-ORNs from males to the major and minor sex pheromone compounds of females. The EAG and SSR were analyzed with non-linear dose-response curves. In experiment 3, male and female ORNs were challenged with two doses of the major and minor female sex pheromone compounds, a plant volatile blend and the male-produced hairpencil courtship pheromone. The results of experiment 3 were analyzed with hierarchical cluster analysis. The R code is for descriptive statistics (means, and such), predictive statistics (GLMs and such) and graphs and in addition to the code there are indications for teh different steps, plus selected output . SEABREAM CAGES IN GREECE AND SPAIN

A case study was designed to apply the recommendations obtained in the tasks of the WP2 of MedAID H2020 project in two different sites located along the Mediterranean basin. Two fish farms in different locationswere selected in West Mediterranean-Spain and East Mediterranean-Greece. A comparison between the results of seabream ongrowing in 2 different sea sites in the Mediterranean sea was carried out during a whole production period (from June 2018 to October 2019) in semi-industrial sea cages (16 m diameter) using the best feeding practices selected from the different research tasks of WP2. In order to produce comparative data between sites the same batch of fish (provided by Galaxidi Marine Farm in June 2018) and feeds (provided by Dibaq Group when the fish reached 100 g) were used. The fish were fed 2 different feeds in the studied period of low (January-June 2019, 45/16 Protein/Lipid ratio and 22/7 FM/FO) and high (July-October 2019, 45/20 P/L, and 16/7 FM/FO) temperatures with diferent DP/DE and FM/FO ratios, using only one dose per day. The fish were harvested (420-455 g) and the results in production yield, fillet composition and sensory attributes compared

MEDIEVAL SUGAR POTS FROM SICILY: CHEMICAL DATA

This dataset includes the chemical data obtained by wavelength Dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) analysis on sugar pots retrieved in Sicily from 11th-16th cent. AD contexts. These data were collected as part of the project “SPotEU: Sugar Pot manufacture in Western Europe in the medieval and post-medieval period (11th -16th centuries AD)”, funded under the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (grant agreement: 797242)., Chemical characterization was conducted by means of wavelength Dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) analysis. The concentrations were quantified using an AxiosmAX-Advanced PANalytical spectrometer with a Rh excitation source calibrated by a suite of 56 international Geological Standards. Interferences were considered and the correction of matrix effects was done using PANanalytical Pro-Trace software for trace elements. The determined elements were: Na2O, MgO, Al2O3, SiO2, P2O5, K2O, CaO, TiO2, V, Cr, MnO, Fe2O3 (as total Fe), Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Sn, Ba, Ce, W, Pb and Th. Minor and major elements are expressed as concentrations of oxides in percentage by mass (wt %). Trace elements are conveyed as concentrations of elements in μg g-1. Samples are prepared according to a procedure explained in Madrid i Fernández, Marisol, and Alejandro G. Sinner. MEDIEVAL SUGAR POTS FROM SICILY: PETROGRAPHIC PHOTOMICROGRAPHS

This dataset includes some of the petrographic pictures of the of sugar pots retrieved in Sicily from 11th-16th cent. AD contexts. These data were collected as part of the project “SPotEU: Sugar Pot manufacture in Western Europe in the medieval and post-medieval period (11th -16th centuries AD)”, funded under the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/797242)., Petrographic examination was performed on 30µ-thick thin-sections prepared as standard for ceramic analysis and observed on the petrographic microscope Olympus BX43P and the picture taken with the camera Olympus SC50. The photomicrographs show the section of the pots where the mineral and rock fragments can be identified. MEDIEVAL SUGAR POTS FROM SICILY: MICROSTRUCTURAL DATA

This dataset includes the microstructural data obtained by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) examination on sugar pots retrieved in Sicily from 11th-16th cent. AD contexts. These data were collected as part of the project “SPotEU: Sugar Pot manufacture in Western Europe in the medieval and post-medieval period (11th -16th centuries AD)”, funded under the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/797242)., SEM observations were performed on fresh cross-section fractures passing through the oro-aboral axis of the body wall in order to observe the microstructure. Bulk specimens were fixed on metal specimen stubs using silicone adhesive and the non-conductive ceramic specimens were made conductive. Colloidal silver paint was applied on excess silicone adhesive and lateral sides of ceramic bulk specimen. Then, the specimen surface was coated with a thin carbon film (~ 10 nm) by vacuum evaporation. The observations were made by using a FEI QUANTA 200 coupled with a microanalizer EDS: Thermo Ultradry – Pathfinder and photomicrograph taken at x1000, x2000 and x4000. The observations were performed using an acceleration voltage of 20 kV and a working distance of 10 mm. In a few cases, a JEOL J6510 coupled with an EDS Oxford Instruments Ultim Max – AZTecLive was used., The photomicrographs show the micromorphology of the pots, where the vitrification stages could be identified. The photomicrographs were taken at the bottom margin, core and the top margin of the ceramic section. Photomicrographs were taken at the CCiTUB of the Universitat de Barcelona., The dataset also includes a file with a description of the charactersitics of each sample.
