The data is displayed in an excel file with spreadsheets representing each of the following data sets: Field kelp loggings Nuuk, Field kelp loggings Disko, Field ETR Disko, Lab time series pH CO2, Lab CO2 End time series, Lab time series consumption CO2, Lab ETR max and Lab time series no macroph. The txt document attached provides a full description of each of them., This dataset contains field- and laboratory data of metabolic activity, photosynthetic characteristics and associated effects on water chemistry of Greenland kelp forests. Field data include diurnal variation in pH, pCO2, O2-concentration, light, temperature, and salinity in shallow kelp forests habitats over 10-day periods in the subarctic Kobbefjord (64⁰N, 51⁰W) in late summer 2013 at a photoperiod of 15 h light and in the Arctic Disko Bay (69 °N, 53 °W) during midsummer 2014 at a photoperiod of 24 h light. Field data further include in-situ measurements of photosynthetic activity (relative electron transport rate, rETR) during a diurnal cycle in midsummer in Disko Bay. Laboratory data include time series of seawater pH, CO2 concentration and rates of change of CO2 concentration and photosynthetic activity of arctic vegetation measured during experimental manipulations of photoperiod and CO2 concentration in aquaria at 4 oC. There were three replicated aquaria per CO2 concentration treatment (200 ppm, 400 ppm and 1000 ppm). Each aquarium contained 6 L of artificial seawater and 2.7 – 3.7 gDW of macrophytes (Ascophyllum nodosum, Fucus vesiculosus, Saccharina longicruris, Zostera marina) collected at Nuuk. SPREAD (SPANISH PRECIPITATION AT DAILY SCALE) [DATASET]

The dataset is freely available on the web repository of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). There are 6 files in NetCDF format: 3 with precipitation estimations (pcp_) and 3 with standard errors (err_) of each estimation. Each of 3 files represent peninsular Spain (pen_), Balearic islands (bal_) and Canary islands (can_)., Spanish PREcipitation At Daily scale (SPREAD) is a new daily gridded precipitation dataset for Spain. It covers the whole territory of peninsular Spain and Balearic and Canary Islands at a 5x5 kilometre spatial resolution. Daily precipitation was estimated for each point of the grid from 1950-01-01 to 2012-12-31 in peninsular Spain and from 1971-01-01 to 2012-12-31 in the Balearic and Canary Islands. The grid was built using a previously reconstructed station-based dataset using reddPrec package (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/reddPrec). The observed precipitation information comprised 12,858 stations provided by Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET); Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAGRAMA); Meteorologic Service of Catalonia (METEOCAT); Navarra Government and several hydrological confederations., This study was supported by research projects CGL2015-69985-R and CGL2014-52135-C3-1-R, funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) and FEDER-ERDF funds. TELOMERE LENGTH AND DYNAMICS OF SPOTLESS STARLING NESTLINGS DEPEND ON NEST BUILDING MATERIALS USED BY PARENTS [DATASET]

Nest materials used by animals can have profound effects on developing offspring. They can modify the bacterial and parasitic environment of the nest, and can influence parental investment through sexual signalling processes. In spotless starlings, Sturnus unicolor, green plants and feathers are known nest materials with such functions. The aim of our study was to experimentally assess their influence on nestlings’ telomere length and attrition, which are good predictors of their survival prospects. In a full-factorial experiment, we explored these effects in two different populations, together with the potential effects of hatching date, ectoparasitism, bacterial environment and nestling growth. Telomere length and attrition largely depended on population identity and hatching date. After correcting for these effects, the addition of feathers resulted in higher rates of telomere attrition. The addition of plants did not affect nestling telomeres in general, but did in interaction with location: in Hueneja, the experimental addition of green plants resulted in longer telomeres. Feather pigmentation also did not affect telomere length or attrition in general, but did in interaction with location: in Hueneja, the experimental addition of unpigmented feathers resulted in nestlings with longer telomeres and lower attrition rates. Moreover, prevalence of staphylococci on the skin of 8-day-old nestlings was negatively related to telomere lengths of fledglings. Taken together, these results suggest a direct link between nest material composition and nestling telomere length and dynamics.
