These data is analyzed in the research article: Mechanical management decreases arthropod biomass by changing vegetation structure in fallow fields of high conservation value (on press). See the article for further information on experimental design and data collection. Datasets incude: Biomass: arthropod abundance data, collected with pitfall traps, classified by order and converted to biomass values Orthoptera: orthoptera counts from transects. Classified by body size Pollinators: pollinators counts from transects. Classified by group, family and genre Vegetation: all previous datasets include data from vegetation structure associated to the pitfall station or transect, Peer reviewed

Consistent monitoring of seawater spectrophotometric pH on the total hydrogen ion scale (pHT) has been challenged by an evolving method, with changes in formulation and the purity of the meta-cresol purple (mCP). Critically, the method still lacks metrological traceability to the International System of Units (SI). Using real seawater samples, we demonstrate that spectrophotometric pHT measurements obtained with unpurified (UNPUR) and purified (PUR) mCP can be harmonized to within 0.003 pH units, the climate-goal threshold. This level of agreement is only achieved when mCP impurities are quantified for both the UNPUR and PUR mCP, and impurity-corrected absorbance data is used in the same formulation to calculate pHT. We applied this approach to a ship-based pHT time-series that transitioned from UNPUR to PUR mCP measurements, achieving agreement better than 0.003 pHT units. Our results show that previous claims suggesting that UNPUR mCP underestimates pHT in the upper pH range are misleading, as they were based on the inappropriate use of absorbances obtained with UNPUR mCP with a formulation developed for PUR mCP. In fact, our data reveal better agreement between UNPUR and PUR pHT in the upper pH range, while UNPUR mCP tends to overestimate pHT in the lower pH range. These findings highlight the urgent need for the global chemical oceanography community to establish a spectrophotometric pHT method with full SI traceability, along with certified reference materials and characterized mCP. This work supports the need for harmonization efforts to ensure the reliability of pHT data in global synthesis products., We are grateful to the captains, staff, principal investigators, researchers and technicians who contributed to acquiring and processing the hydrographic and ancillary chemical data from IEOOS (RADPROF and RADCAN) and MSM72 cruises. Ultrasound imaging plays an important role in screening early detection and breast cancer diagnosis. However, speckle noise affects medical ultrasound images and degrades the visual radiologic evaluation, which generally causes several difficulties in identifying the malignant and benignant regions. Denoising is an important step in preprocessing medical images, because it restores the maximum details preserving edges and all information of the images, achieving successful accuracy in anomalies classification. To reduce the speckle noise and retain image features well, we proposed two GANs models to breast ultrasound speckle denoising as preprocessing image, (i) Conditional GAN and (ii) WGAN. The better denoising image quality was measured by peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index (SSIM). The experimental analysis clearly shows that the CGAN method achieves better visual image quality in terms of PSNR=38.18 dB and SSIM= 0.96 with respect to WGAN model (PSNR=33.0068 dB and SSIM=0.91) on the small Ultrasound training datasets. Thus, we conclude that GANs can help in denoising ultrasound medical imaging, and as a future work these data can be used as computer system input for image segmentation and classification, reducing the hand-dependence and helping radiologists to improve breast cancer detection., Ministerio de Educación y Formación Profesional PID2019-107790RB-C22 MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033., Peer reviewed

DatamainfiguresNew.xlsx. Datasupplementaryfigures.xlsx, The coordination of food intake, energy storage, and expenditure involves complex interactions between hypothalamic neurons and peripheral tissues including pancreatic islets, adipocytes, muscle, and liver. Previous research shows that deficiency of the transcription factor Alx3 alters pancreatic islet-dependent glucose homeostasis. In this study we carried out a comprehensive assessment of metabolic alterations in Alx3 deficiency. We report that Alx3-deficient mice exhibit decreased food intake without changes in body weight, along with reduced energy expenditure and altered respiratory exchange ratio. Magnetic resonance imaging reveals increased adiposity and decreased muscle mass, which was associated with markers of motor and sympathetic denervation. By contrast, Alx3-deficient mice on a high-fat diet show attenuated weight gain and improved insulin sensitivity, compared to control mice. Gene expression analysis demonstrates altered lipogenic and lipolytic gene profiles. In wild type mice Alx3 is expressed in hypothalamic arcuate nucleus neurons, but not in major peripheral metabolic organs. Functional diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging reveals selective hypothalamic responses to fasting in the arcuate nucleus of Alx3-deficient mice. Additionally, altered expression of proopiomelanocortin and melanocortin-3 receptor mRNA in the hypothalamus suggests impaired regulation of feeding behavior. This study highlights the crucial role for Alx3 in governing food intake, energy homeostasis, and metabolic nutrient partitioning, thereby influencing body mass composition., Peer reviewed

This study investigates the transesterification of isoflavones puerarin and β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→6)-puerarin to enhance their lipophilicity for specific pharmacological applications. The process achieved high yields (80-100%) in the isoflavones conversion when commercial lipases from Candida antarctica (CALB) and Thermomyces lanuginosus (TL IM) were used. The acylation patterns between CALB and TL IM varied depending on the substrate; both enzymes yielded principally monoacylated products from puerarin and β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→6)-puerarin. However, TL IM also produced di- and triacylated derivatives of β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→6)-puerarin in substantial amounts. Structural characterization by NMR identified puerarin-6ʹʹ-O-laurate and β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→6)-puerarin-6ʹʹʹ-O-laurate as the primary products in CALB and TL IM reactions. These acyl derivatives presented improved lipophilicity (Log P from −1.0 − 0.16 to 3.26 − 3.58) and antioxidant activity (67.2-97.3 to 102.5-131.4 µM TE/mmol). Therefore, these compounds have potential pharmacological applications., Thanks for the financial support of CONACYT (Mexico) through the Ph.D. scholarship 268290 for ACV.
