La FONOTECA ZOOLOGICA recopila, clasifica y almacena los registros sonoros de los principales animales acústicos, aves, anfibios, insectos y mamíferos, en las denominadas colecciones bioacústicas. Así se conserva y actualiza la información, garantizando el acceso a la misma y ofreciendo una nueva herramienta de investigación de gran utilidad en los diferentes campos de la biología. METODOLOGIA. Todas las grabaciones en soporte vinilo, bobina, casete o DAT son sometidas a un proceso de digitalización y posterior edición y análisis espectrográfico para separar los distintos registros correspondientes a cada individuo de cada especie animal registrada en la grabación. La información referente a cada registro se introduce en una base de datos para permitir búsquedas por criterios taxonómicos y geográficos. Todos los registros procesados son numerados y almacenados en soporte disco compacto. La fonoteca se compone de dos colecciones, una de registros propios y otra de registros publicados. COLECCIONES. Los registros almacenados en la Fonoteca pueden dividirse en dos grupos según su origen. Por un lado están recopiladas todas las grabaciones que han sido publicadas en todo el mundo hasta la fecha. La colección de grabaciones publicadas se compone de 707 volúmenes (casete, vinilo y CD) con sonidos de animales de todas las partes del mundo, y cuenta con más de 24.000 registros, predominando las grabaciones de aves. Por otro lado se encuentra la colección de registros propios, compuesta por las grabaciones realizadas por el personal investigador de la Fonoteca y del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, así como grabaciones aportadas por investigadores de otros centros. [ES] La colección de muestras biológicas del Centro Oceanográfico de Canarias abordará, prácticamente, todos los grupos zoológicos marinos (peces, moluscos, cefalópodos...) de la costa oeste africana y del continente Antártico. En constante crecimiento, el Centro, en su Colección de Muestras Biológicas, cuenta, por el momento, con una colección de espinas y cortes de espinas de túnidos, pero incorporará el resto de material biológico que existe en el centro y que se acrecenta cada año (otolitos y escamas, estatolitos de cefalópodos, piel y mandíbulas de condrictios, espinas y cortes de espinas de túnidos, etc)., El programa COLECTAX tiene como objetivo la creación, desarrollo y mantenimiento de un archivo natural de fauna marina en el IEO. En este sentido, el IEO cuenta en la actualidad con miles de ejemplares de peces e invertebrados procedentes de muy diversas áreas geográficas depositados en sus colecciones de referencia en los Centros de Málaga, Cádiz, Tenerife y Vigo. En estas colecciones destacan las muestras del Atlántico africano, tanto por su volumen como por la cantidad de especies raras de aguas profundas, así como la gran representación de fauna del Mediterráneo, con especímenes recolectados desde principios del siglo XX. La Colección de Tejidos y ADN del MNCN, Madrid (España) contiene muestras tanto de diferentes tejidos (hígado, músculo, riñón, ...) como de extractos de ADN pertenecientes a una amplia gama de especies tanto de vertebrados como de invertebrados. This is the first published database of Bathynellacea. It includes data of bathynellids (Crustacea, Bathynellacea) from the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Island collected along 64 years (1949 to 2013). The samples come from groundwater (caves, springs, wells and hyporrheic habitat associated rivers) from both sampling campaigns and occasional sampling conducted throughout the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands. The dataset lists ocurrence data of bathynellids distribution, sampling sites (with localities, county and geographic coordinates), taxonomic information (from family to species level) and sampling sources (collector and sampling dates) for all records. The data were compiled by A.I. Camacho (AIC) and come from own samples, literature and samples donated by several Spanish and foreign researchers which were studied by AIC. The descriptions of new species and species identifications have been carried out by an expert taxonomist (AIC) with 25 years experience in the bathynellids studies. Many of the sampling sites are type localities of endemic species from Iberian Peninsula. The data set includes 409 samples record corresponding to two families, 12 genera and 60 species, 42 of them formally described plus 18 taxa unpublished. This represents everything known for the study area, and nearly a quarter of all known species of Bathynellacea in the world. The main collectors are J. Notenboom & I. Meijers, R. Rouch et coll., A.I. Camacho et coll. (C. Puch, F. Molinero, A.G. Valdecasas, J. Rodriguez, members of G.E. Edelweiss and G. E. Bathynellidae).

This is the first published database of a Bathynellacea Chappuis, 1915 collection of slices and DNA extracts. It includes all data of bathynellids (Crustacea: Syncarida) collected in the last 48 years on the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands. It also includes specimens studied across much of Europe, as well as some specimens obtained from samples of North America, Asia, Africa and Australia. The samples come from groundwater (caves, springs, wells and hyporrheic habitat associated rivers) obtained from both, sampling campaigns and occasional sampling efforts. The data set includes 3399 records (2657 slices and 742 DNA extracts) corresponding to three families (Parabathynellidae, Leptobathynellidae and Bathynellidae) of the order Bathynellacea; 52 genera and 92 species formally described, plus around 30 additional taxa in study and, thus, still unpublished. This represents more than half of all the genera known worldwide and almost a third of the species currently known in the world. This dataset contains a specially relevant collection that includes holotypes and type series of 43 new species of Bathynellacea. This dataset has been created and reviewed by a specialist in the group (Ana I. Camacho), and each specimen, regardless of its shape, includes taxonomic, geographical and authorship information.

These data proceed from BANDASCA, a database which compiles all the available information from literature, museum and private collections, doctoral thesis, as well as other unpublished data available for the entire Iberian Peninsula (see structure in Lobo and Martín-Piera 1991). At present, it contains the information of 96 981 individuals of the 53 Iberian Scarabaeinae species. A database-record was defined as a pool of specimens of a single species with identical database field values (locality, UTM coordinates, altitude, date of capture (day/month/year), type of habitat and food resource; among others) regardless of the number of specimens; so any difference in any database field value gave rise to a new database-record.
