HYGROSCOPIC AND CORROSION TESTS OF SALT HYDRATES TO BE USED AS PHASE CHANGE MATERIALS (PCMS) IN THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE (TES)

  • Martínez Alcocer, F. Rodrigo
  • Borri, Emiliano
  • Cabeza, Luisa F.
This dataset corresponds to a study aimed at evaluating the hygroscopic behaviour and corrosion effect of inorganic compounds to be applied as phase change material (PCM) in a laten heat thermal energy storage (TES) system. The hygroscopy test consisted of analysing the rate at which inorganic compounds can absorb water during 8 hours of exposure to the environment and the amount of water removed in 12 hours of subsequent drying. The corrosion tests consisted of analysing the changes produced by static orrosion in stainless steel fibres when they are immersed one week in different liquid inorganic PCMs as first tests for PCM selection.

ERC ARTSOUNDSCAPES PROJECT – IMPULSE RESPONSES MEASURED AT URKOSH AREA (RUSSIAN ALTAI)

  • Alvarez Morales, Carmen Lidia
  • Benítez-Aragón, Daniel
  • Díaz-Andreu, Margarita
Data collected in the framework of the ERC project Artsoundscapes, the sound of special places: exploring rock art soundscapes and the sacred (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/787842). The project focuses on the relationship between archaeoacoustics and rock art. The dataset includes audio files that are some the impulse responses gathered in a selection of rock art sites in the Urkosh Area (Russian Altai), more specifically, Gran Yaloman, Urkosh XV, Foothill, Boulder, Urkosh IV B, Rock face 1 & Rock face 2. The tables include the acoustic data derived from those impulse responses. Fieldwork was conducted in August 2019, by Margarita Díaz-Andreu, Adriano Farina, Tommaso Mattioli, Laura Coltofean, Elio Smith, Elena Miklashovich and Andrzej Rozwadowski.

This dataset contains the information on our recent body of work on transition-metal oxide-based magneto-ionics and all the relevant data files. In this work, we propose a nanoscale-engineered magneto-ionic architecture (comprising a thin solid electrolyte in contact with a liquid electrolyte), that drastically enhances cyclability while preserving sufficiently high electric fields to trigger ion motion. Specifically, we show that the insertion of a highly nanostructured (amorphous-like) Ta layer (with suitable thickness and electric resistivity) between a magneto-ionic target material (i.e., Co3O4) and the liquid electrolyte, increases magneto-ionic cyclability from < 30 cycles (when no Ta is inserted) to more than 800 cycles. The Ta layer is effective in trapping oxygen and hindering O2– ions from moving into the liquid electrolyte, thus keeping O2– motion mainly restricted between Co3O4 and Ta when voltage of alternating polarity is applied. We demonstrate that this approach provides a suitable strategy to boost magneto-ionics by combining the benefits of solid and liquid electrolytes in a synergetic manner.

Tooth retouchers have been typically grouped within the category of “bone retouchers” at a technical level and thus, considered as “soft” hammers. However, the different chemical composition of bones and teeth have never been previously considered. Teeth are denser and heavier than bone blanks and, consequently, their technological features are not homologous and nature of this material as retoucher should be assessed. In this dataset we include some results of an archaeological experiment in which 41 modern horse teeth were used to test their effectiveness as retouchers. The aim of this work is to better understand the purpose of using teeth as tools of both Neanderthal and early modern populations, as well as to shed light about how these human groups used them. The overall objective of these data is to provide material to other researchers in order to allow comparisons with material from archaeological record or from other archaeological experiments.
