Erasing memories of cocaine-stimuli associations might have important clinical implications for addiction therapy. Stimulating hippocampal plasticity by enhancing adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) is a promising strategy because the addition of new neurons may not only facilitate new learning but also modify previous connections and weaken retrograde memories. To investigate whether increasing AHN prompted the forgetting of previous contextual cocaine associations, mice trained in a cocaine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm were administered chronic intracerebroventricular infusions of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA, an endogenous lysophospholipid with pro-neurogenic actions), ki16425 (an LPA1/3 receptor antagonist) or a vehicle solution, and they were tested 23 days later for CPP retention and extinction. The results of immunohistochemical experiments showed that the LPA-treated mice exhibited reduced long-term CPP retention and an approximately twofold increase in the number of adult-born hippocampal cells that differentiated into mature neurons. Importantly, mediation analyses confirmed a causal role of AHN in reducing CPP maintenance. In contrast, the ki16425-treated mice displayed aberrant responses, with initially decreased CPP retention that progressively increased across the extinction sessions, leading to no effect on AHN. The pharmacological treatments did not affect locomotion or general exploratory or anxiety-like responses. In a second experiment, normal and LPA1 -receptor-deficient mice were acutely infused with LPA, which revealed that LPA1 -mediated signaling was required for LPA-induced proliferative actions. These results suggest that the LPA/LPA1 pathway acts as a potent in vivo modulator of AHN and highlight the potential usefulness of pro-AHN strategies to treat aberrant cognition in those addicted to cocaine., This study was funded by grants from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Agencia Estatal de Investigación), which is co-funded by the European Research Development Fund (AEI/FEDER, UE) (PSI2013-44901-P and PSI2017-82604-R to L.J.S. and

Tables correspond to the performance of the bootstrap-F procedure in terms of Type I error and power in one-way repeated measures designs under violations of sphericity and normality. Values of epsilon are fixed according to the Greenhouse–Geisser procedure. The number of repeated measures (3, 4, and 6), sample size (from 10 to 180), non-normal distribution, and epsilon value (from the lower to its upper limit) were manipulated., Proyecto PID2020-113191GB-I00 del MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033.

DATASET_EI_FAMILY_SCHOOL IN CYBERBULLYING ROLES.
- Quintana-Orts, Cirenia Luz
- Mérida-López, Sergio
- Gómez-Hombrados, Jorge
- Rey-Peña, Lourdes
This research explored the relationship between family and school factors, emotional intelligence facets, and cyberbullying roles in a sample of 2,883 adolescents (aged 12–18; M = 14.11, SD = 1.42). Findings from logistic regression revealed shared factors associated with cybervictims, cyberbullies, and cyberbully-victims, including lower use of emotion, higher family conflict, and reduced teacher support. Lower emotion regulation and weaker family cohesion were linked to cyberbully-victim and cyberbully roles, while self-emotion appraisal was relevant for cyberbullies, and other-emotion appraisal was significant for cybervictims. Furthermore, student support was particularly significant for cybervictims. These results underscore the importance of reducing family conflict, enhancing teacher support, and promoting emotional intelligence as preventive measures against cyberbullying. Implications for family and school-based interventions are discussed., This research was partially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (R+D+i project PID2020-117006RB-I00), and the PAIDI Group CTS-1048 (Junta de Andalucía). DATASET_PSMU_EI_GENDER.
- Arrivillaga, Christiane
- Rey-Peña, Lourdes
- Extremera-Pacheco, Natalio
The excessive usage of social networking sites might affect adolescents’ well-being. Recent studies have found significant associations between problematic social media use (PSMU) and psychological maladjustment. The present study aimed at analyzing gender differences in the percentages of high-risk PSMU and to investigate the relations with the emotional intelligence (EI) of adolescents. The sample was composed of 597 adolescents (58.8 % girls, 45.2 % boys) within the ages of 12 and 19. Participants completed self-report questionnaires of EI (WLEIS) and PSMU (BSMAS). Results indicate that girls had higher high-risk percentages of PSMU (17.7 %) than boys (13.4 %). Furthermore, boys had higher levels of self-emotion appraisal, regulation of emotions and global EI, while girls had higher levels of other-emotion appraisal. Nonetheless, when correlational analyses were divided by gender, only in girls there was a significant and negative association between PSMU and self-emotion appraisal, use of emotions, regulation of emotions and global EI. Results indicate that the higher risk of PSMU found in girls could be related to their lower levels of self-emotion appraisal, regulation of emotions and global EI. The findings highlight the importance of designing gender sensitive PSMU prevention strategies., Universidad de Málaga (PPIT.UMA.A2.2019)

DATASET_TEACHERS_PERCEIVEDSTRESS.

A growing number of studies have tested the relationship between personal resources (e.g., emotional intelligence) and indicators of occupational well-being, including work engagement. However, few have examined health-related factors moderating or mediating the pathway from emotional intelligence to work engagement. A better knowledge of this area would contribute substantially to the design of effective intervention strategies. The present study’s main goal was to test the mediating and moderating role of perceived stress in the association between emotional intelligence and work engagement. The participants comprised 1166 Spanish teaching professionals (744 of whom were female and 537 worked as secondary teachers; Mage = 44.28 years). The results showed that perceived stress partially mediated the link between emotional intelligence and work engagement. Moreover, the positive relationship between emotional intelligence and work engagement was strengthened among individuals who scored high in perceived stress. The results suggest that multifaceted interventions targeting stress management and emotional intelligence development may facilitate engagement in emotionally demanding occupations such as teaching., -Universidad de Málaga
