SCAN-2001 Cruise (29HE20001207) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2000, Geodynamics of the Scotia plate edge / Antarctic and Antarctic Deep Water paleoceanography. The project and the 2001 SCAN campaign focus on the analysis of areas that comprise the boundary between the Antarctic and Scotia plates. The basic objectives are oriented to the analysis of continental fragmentation processes and the creation of oceanographic basins. The thematic aspects include the geodynamic, petrological and seismic stratigraphy study of directional large faults, the development of backarc ocean basins, the creation of continental blocks and the paleoceanographic analysis on the evolution of Deep Antarctic Water. Special attention is paid to the establishment of the geological processes that take place at the edges of the plates. The aim is to distinguish between the factors linked to local phenomena (tectonic, sedimentary contribution) and those of a global nature (climatic-eustatic change, glacial cycles) which have controlled the paleoceanographic processes and the development of the various depositional provinces

HITS Cruise (29HE20010907) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2001, Characterization of tsunamigenic structures in SW Iberia margin by Side Sonar TOBI. High resoultion imaging of tsunamigenic Structures in the southwest Iberian margin (Hits). The HITS campaign has been designed to determine the detailed geometry of the active seismogenic structures of the South West of the Iberian Peninsula using the TOBI high resolution sonar. In addition, to calculate the style and movement of active faults, as well as recurrence rates, the sampling and subsequent dating of the units associated with the seismic cycle of the fault is necessary, for example the landslides located at the base of the escarpment. For this purpose, we forecast the realization of several gravity cores in areas previously identified by TOBI, corroborated by multibeam. echosounder and parametric probe. Finally, to determine the possible factors that may influence the nucleation and propagation of earthquake ruptures, we plan to investigate the thermal regime of the fault zone by means of the heat flow probe and its possible escape of fluids, by means of a nephelometer / underwater camera SHRIMP
