© 2020 by the authors., The use of probability-based panels that collect data via online or mixed-mode surveys has increased in the last few years as an answer to the growing concern with the quality of the data obtained with traditional survey modes. However, in order to adequately represent the general population, these tools must address the same sources of bias that affect other survey-based designs: namely under coverage and non-response. In this work, we test several approaches to produce calibration estimators that are suitable for survey data affected by non response where auxiliary information exists at both the panel level and the population level. The first approach adjusts the results obtained in the cross-sectional survey to the population totals, while, in the second, the weights are the result of two-step process where different adjusts on the sample, panel, and population are done. A simulation on the properties of these estimators is performed. In light of theory and simulation results, we conclude that weighting by calibration is an effective technique for the treatment of non-response bias when the response mechanism is missing at random. These techniques have also been applied to real data from the survey Andalusian Citizen Preferences for Political Decision-Making Procedures., The work was supported by the Ministerio de Economia, Industria y Competitividad, Spain, under Grant MTM2015-63609-R., Peer reviewed

Nonparametric estimation to reconstruct the deformation history of an active fold in the Caspian Basin

The complete shape of an active fold in the western margin of the South Caspian Basin is established with a seismic section from a post-stacked cube migrated in depth. The structure is an open anticline, which deforms a thick sequence (more than 7 km) of Late Miocene to Pliocene sediments: the productive series (PS 5.9–3.1 Ma). A major erosive unconformity separates the most recent sediments with onlap and draping geometries towards the anticline culmination. Deformation is reconstructed using the complete fit of numerous reflections by the nonparametric regression method. This fold is detached above a weak, shale-rich unit located between 8 and 10 km depth dipping gently towards the E (7). The fold geometry resembles a detachment fold, although it is reconstructed a long-lived history of basinward tilting accompanying sedimentation and folding, which diminished from 0.61 to 0.34/Ma during deposition of the PS. Fold growth started at 3.5 Ma within the upper PS with a shortening rate of 0.2 mm/year and coinciding with maximum sedimentation rates (3.24 mm/year). Folding continued up-to-Present under lower sedimentation rates (av. 0.66 ± 0.2 mm/year) and a shortening rate that increased slightly from 0.17 mm/year at 3.1 Ma to 0.29 mm/year during the last 1.6 Ma. The balance between sedimentation and shortening rates varies during folding, explaining the contrasting geometries observed in the growth sediments. It is also inferred that the possible occurrence of lateral flow of overpressured mud-rich sediments inflated the fold core during shortening, similarly to the upwelling process commonly described in salt-core anticlines., This research was also financed by MICINN research projects TRA2009-0205, MTM2015-63609-R and MTM2012-35650, and CEICE research projectSEJ2954 (Spain). This is a contribution from the research groups FQM365 and RNM376 of the Junta de Andalucía in Spain. Seismic interpretation has been conducted with the Kingdom package. This software is kindly provided by IHS through an academic agreement with the Granada University.

Encuestas presenciales con cuestionario de papel y ordenador. Una comparativa en preguntas de actitudes, Face-to-face surveys using paper or a computer: difference in attitudes

This article examines the implications for data quality of using computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) compared to paper-and-pencil interviewing (PAPI) in an electoral survey. Quality is measured by considering the average of unanswered questions in each modality and the number of non-responses in single-answer multiple choice questions. The analysis of the questionnaire as a whole reveals that the number of 'don’t know' responses is higher than the 'no answer' option, although the second is more frequent in PAPI. In forced choice questions requiring a single answer, the number of non-responses is greater than the 'don’t know' responses; a figure that increases in PAPI. Of the six multiple choice questions, only three show significant differences, although the results are inconclusive., Este texto es parte de una investigación financiada por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, referencia MTM2015-63609-R.

Este fenómeno se detecta en las preguntas de 5 y 10 categorías de respuesta, no detectando un efecto primacía en preguntas administradas con tarjeta., In this work we make a comparison between a face-to-face and landline CATI survey using two equivalent samples. The questionnaire has forced-choice questions with vertical disposition of the answers, and grid questions. In the first part we compare the presence of answer effects (primacy and recency) and the number of answers “not know”. The telephone survey has fewer partial nonre-sponse, and presence of recency effect in questions with vertical disposition with 4 and 5 categories. In the battery questions we verify if the telephone surveys have a smaller degree of differentiation in the scales, a greater election of extreme answers, as well as a greater assent. This phenomenon has been detected in the questions of 5 and 10 categories of answer, not detecting effect primacy in questions administered with card., Este texto es parte de una investigación financiada por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad,
