Well ordered crystals of a short-chain alcohol dehydrogenase from Drosophila lebanonensis: re-evaluation of the crystallographic data and rotation-function analysis.

Alcohol dehydrogenase prepared from Drosophila lebanonensis yields well ordered plate-like crystals which diffract to better than 2.3 A resolution. The crystals belong to space group P2(1) of the monoclinic system; the unit-cell dimensions are a = 65.25, b = 55.77, c = 70.02 A, alpha = 90, beta = 107.08, gamma = 90 degrees. The asymmetric unit of the crystal cell is most probably occupied by a dimer, corresponding to a packing density of 2.15 A(3) Da-L. The orientation of the non-crystallographic twofold symmetry axes is determined by analysis of a self-rotation function calculated with native intensity data.

Two methods for image compression/reconstruction using OWA operators

In this chapter we address image compression by means of two alternative algorithms. In the first algorithm, we associate to each image an interval-valued fuzzy relation, and we build an image which is n times smaller than the original one, by using two-dimensional OWA operators. The experimental results show that, in this case, best results are obtained with ME-OWA operators. In the second part of the work, we describe a reduction algorithm that replaces the image by several eigen fuzzy sets associated with it. We obtain these eigen fuzzy sets by means of an equation that relates the OWA operators we use and the relation (image) we consider. Finally, we present a reconstruction method based on an algorithm which minimizes a cost function, with this cost function built by means of two-dimensional OWA operators.

Şah I. Abbas’ın Bir Akdeniz Politikası Var mıydı?

Geçtiğimiz 20 yıl, Safevi tarihi üzerine yapılan araştırmalarda muazzam bir gelişmeye tanıklık etti. Yakın zamanlarda Safevi uluslararası münasebetlerine ilişkin meydana gelen gelişmeler, 16. ve 17. yüzyıllar boyunca İran’ın ilişkilerinin ve Akdeniz’in kuzey kıyıları boyunca yer alan ülkeler de dâhil olmak üzere Avrupa ile bağlantılarının benzeri görülmemiş bir seviyeye ulaştığı sonucuna yol açtı. Bununla birlikte, Akdeniz’e yönelik bu bilinçli Safevi politikası hakkında hemen hemen hiç tartışma yok. Bu makale, Şah I. Abbas’ın, zihnindeki belirgin bir Akdeniz politikası ile hareket etmiş olabileceğini göstermek için İspanyol vesikalarının yeniden gözden geçirilmesini öneriyor.

The Photovoltaic (PV) Module Reliability Workshop was held in Golden, Colorado, on Feb. 28?March 1, 2012. The objective was to share information to improve PV module reliability because such improvements reduce the cost of solar electricity and give investors confidence in the technology. NREL led the workshop, which was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Program (Solar Program).

A Distributed Sensor Network for the Control of a Bioclimatic House in Spain

The XXI century home should be a digital habitat, a connected residence, but at the same time it should be involved in sustainability and the environment. The location of new technologies at home, and its acceptance by the user, requires, among other actions, a significant diffusion and activity to be undertaken. This work proposes the development of a Smart House network designed for its integration into a sustainable and bioclimatic solar house. The paper focuses on a specific aspect of the house design, the control system bus, developed for the management of the different parameters, variables, sensors and actuators which coexist at home. Finally, the system has been installed in a laboratory bioclimatic house. Environmental variable experiments based on the control of passive elements, such as phase shift gels, are presented. Experimental results show that the system is able to benefit from the bioclimatic elements in the house by taking into account the user preferences.
