BUSCADOR RECOLECTA

Estas fotografías fueron tomadas en una zona llana de la costa cercana a Keiss, en el condado de Caithness, Escocia, con marea baja, donde la “vieja arenisca roja” forma un lecho duro que se sumerge superficialmente en el mar perfectamente transparente. A unos 10 metros en el oleaje, las rocas se quiebran en el agua profunda, abriéndose a una parte menos accesible del mundo acuático. Las criaturas que encontré allí no eran espectaculares, ni raras ni fascinantes. No había colores llamativos, ni misterios sublimes—simplemente organismos en su propio mundo, solitarios y perfectamente imperturbados, algunos esperando ser tragados por la próxima marea, otros moviéndose a un ritmo increíblemente lento., The pictures were taken on a flat part of the coast near Keiss, County Caithness, Scotland, at low tide, where “Old Red” Sandstone forms a hard bed dipping shallowly into the perfectly transparent sea. About 10 metres into the surf, the rocks break off into deep water, opening to a less accessible part of the water-bound world. The creatures I found there were neither spectacular, nor rare or exciting. There were no loud colours, no sublime mysteries—just organisms in their own world, solitary and perfectly undisturbed, some waiting to be engulfed in the next high tide, others moving around at incredibly slow rates.

La fotografía de la naturaleza se divide en muchas categorías, no existe ni una fácil ni una difícil. Uno puede pensar que hacer fotos de animales es más difícil que, por ejemplo, hacer fotografía del paisaje. Pero la mejor fotografía va más allá de la mera documentación hasta recubrir el momento con la visión artística del fotógrafo. Al final, el conocimiento del tema, la destreza, el enfoque, la paciencia (mucha paciencia), la composición y la habilidad técnica con la cámara son todo lo que importa. Los fotógrafos de la naturaleza buscamos momentos especiales que a veces sólo duran unos segundos. Estos momentos pueden ser instantes de luz en el paisaje raramente vistos, el comportamiento interesante de un animal o simplemente la belleza de la simplicidad. No todos los lugares o los momentos ofrecen una oportunidad fotográfica perfecta. Tenemos que seguir mirando, buscando, estudiando. Y cuando el momento adecuado ocurre tenemos que estar preparados, lo que significa que a menudo tenemos ESA imagen en nuestra mente mucho antes de que la veamos ocurrir. En cerca de diez años de fotografía de la vida salvaje he encontrado algunos campos que se han convertido en mis favoritos, dentro de los que se enmarcan las fotografías que pueden verse en esta revista. One might think that taking photos of animals is harder than, for example, doing landscape photography. But all the best photography goes beyond mere documentation to overlay the moment with the artistic vision of the photographer. In the end, knowledge of subject, field craft, approach, patience (a lot of patience), composition and technical ability with the camera are all that matters. We nature photographers search for special moments which sometimes last only for brief seconds. These can be rarely seen moments of light on the landscape, the interesting behaviour of an animal or just the beauty of simplicity. Not every place or moment offers a perfect photographic opportunity. We have to keep on looking, searching, studying. And when the right moment occurs we have to be prepared for it, which means pretty often we have THAT picture in our mind long before we finally see it happen. From over ten years in wildlife photography I have found some fields to be my favourites. Animal behaviour is one of those which offer me most satisfaction. When it comes to nature, fall has a special place in my photography since it both shows the death of nature and its resurrection. The warm colors of autumn landscapes reflect the beauty of nature, emphasizing that it actually is our real home. In my photographs I always add a positive touch of the human presence to natural settings. In the first photograph it can bee seen how beautiful it looks when humans try to work together with nature; and in the second one the things humans leave behind sooner or later turn into nature itself., En lo que respecta a la naturaleza, el otoño ocupa un lugar especial en mi fotografía porque muestra tanto la muerte de la naturaleza como su resurrección. Los cálidos colores de los paisajes otoñales reflejan la belleza de la naturaleza, enfatizando que es en realidad nuestro verdadero hogar. En mis fotografías siempre añado un toque positivo de la presencia human en los entornos naturales. En mi primera fotografía puede verse qué belleza hay cuando los humanos intentan trabajar juntos con la naturaleza; y en la segunda, las cosas que los humanos dejan atrás terminan tarde o temprano convirtiéndose en la propia naturaleza.

Computational 3D models of human atria and torso with encoded anatomical and functional heterogeneity. The finite element model of the atria is a multi-layer mesh with a homogeneous wall thickness between 600 and 900 μm (754.893 nodes and 515.010 elements), built with linear hexahedral elements and with regular spatial resolution of 300 µm. The model consists of: 21 regions with 53 sub-divisions representing the detailed description of fibre orientation; electrophysiological heterogeneity represented by 8 cellular models with differences in the action potential properties; and conduction velocities and anisotropy ratios tuned to each atrial region. The torso was modelled using a dataset obtained from the online open repository at the Centre for Integrative Biomedical Computing (CBIC) from University of Utah. The torso model has 190.804 nodes and 1.149.531 tetrahedral elements with a spatial resolution of 0.6 mm. It has 6 different regions: lungs, bones, liver, ventricle, blood pools, and flesh.
