BIOANTART Cruise (29HE19930119) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 1993, Dynamic oceanography and productivity of the Bransfield Strait during the austral summer. (BIOANTAR 93). 1) Characterize the different water masses of the Bransfield Strait 2) Study the distribution and variability of the water masses that occupy the Strait from their hydrographic characteristics 3) Analyze the generation and propagation of short surface waves and half period 4) Determine the three-dimensional structure of circulation due to the main regional hydrodynamic agents. 5) Study of the influence of water masses on the distribution of planktonic communities. 6) Study of the importance of the essential nutrients on the growth and metabolism of phytoplankton. 7) Study of the contribution of the different fractions of plankton to abundance and primary productivity. 8) Study of the variability in the importance of microheterotrophic processes during the succession in the trophic structure of ecosystems. 9) Determine the respiratory metabolism of Antarctic microplankton and its relationships with environmental conditions. 10) Study of metabolism (respiration, growth and excretion) of zooplankton and its contribution to the decline of phytoplankton bloom. 11) Preparation of a balance of total production, net community production, exported production and respiratory metabolism of plankton 12) Study of the importance of the Bransfield Strait as spawning area and fish breeding 13) Evaluate the net metabolism of the upper layers of the Antarctic ocean during the austral summer 14) Determine the balance between autotrophic and heterotrophic organisms 15) Study of the role of light as a factor limiting the growth of phytoplankton populations

ICEFISH Cruise (29HE20010119) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2001, Physiological adaptations of fish in ice (Channichtyidae family) during development, with special reference to the expression and activity of the inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) .The objective of the campaign is to capture larvae of ice fish to determine: 1) The different isoforms of nitric oxide synthases, the level of protein and mRNA, as mollecular markers of hyperoxia.2) The stage of larval development by allocating the age by otolith analysis and RNA / DNA rates. 3) determine the oxygen consumption under controlled conditions

INSTITUT MEDITERRANI D'ESTUDIS AVANÇATS (CSIC-UIB): IMEDEA-OTO

[EN] IMEDEA-OTO includes more than 300 lots of Actinopterygian fish otoliths, with a total of approximately 43,000 samples, from the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (CSIC-UIB) thanks to the different campaigns led by Dr. Beatriz Morales-Nin. The samples come mainly from the Mediterranean Sea, the Antarctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.There are representations of 157 species and 52 different families. The most represented orders are Perciformes, Gadiformes, Scorpaeniformes, Salmoniformes, respectively.The otoliths are whole or in dry preservation. The collection continues to grow., [ES] IMEDEA-OTO incluye más de 300 lotes de otolitos de peces Actinopterigios, con un total aproximado de 43.000 muestras, del Instituto Mediterráneo de Estudios Avanzados (CSIC-UIB) gracias a las diferentes campañas lideradas por la Dra. Beatriz Morales-Nin. Las muestras proceden básicamente del mar Mediterráneo, del océano Antártico y del océano Atlántico. Hay representación de 157 especies y 52 familias diferentes. Los órdenes más representados son Perciformes, Gadiformes, Scorpaeniformes, Salmoniformes, respectivamente. Los otolitos se encuentran enteros o en preparación, todos conservados en seco. La colección sigue en crecimiento.
