The data acquisition contract was funded by the "Programa estatal de fomento de la investigación científica y técnica de excelencia-subprograma estatal de generación de conocimiento" of the Ministry of economy and competitiveness and took place in 2015. Seismic data was successfully collected in Alhama de Murcia (Spain). The total amount of seismic reflection data collected was 13.2 km in 6 profiles NW-SE oriented. Technical specifications of the profiles: Receiver number: 240, Receiver interval: 2 m, Source: accelerated weightdrop 250 kg, Source interval: 6 m, Sample rate: 1 ms, Record time: 4 s. Contact people: Martínez-Díaz, J.; jmdiaz@geo.ucm.es and Carbonell, R.; rcarbo@ictja.csic.es, This work is part of the research project: “InterGeo”. One of the main objectives of this project is to understand the seismogenetic behavior of the Alhama de Murcia Fault (FAM) located in the Betic Cordillera (Spain). In this study several intersegment areas were defined. Some structural and paleoseismic studies and geophysical surveys have been carried out on these zones., Research project reference code: CGL2013-47412-C2-1-P, Peer reviewed

3D REFLECTION SEISMIC IMAGING OF THE HONTOMÍN CO2 STORAGE SITE

The study area covers an area of 36 km2 and included approximately 5000 mixed (Vibroseis and explosives) source points recorded with a 25 m inline source and receiver spacing., The Basque–Cantabrian Basin of the northern Iberia Peninsula constitutes a unique example of a major deformation system, featuring a dome structure developed by extensional tectonics followed by compressional reactivation. The occurrence of natural resources in the area and the possibility of establishing a geological storage site for carbon dioxide motivated the acquisition of a 3-D seismic reflection survey in 2010, centered on the Jurassic Hontomín dome. The objectives of this survey were to obtain a geological model of the overall structure and to establish a baseline model for a possible geological CO2 storage site., Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade through the CIUDEN and ICTJA agreement.--European Union through the Technology Demonstration Plant of Compostilla.--Spanish Ministry of Education Science.--Generalitat de Catalunya.--, Peer reviewed

SEISMIC IMAGING OF THE MOROCCAN ATLAS (SIMA): A WIDE-ANGLE REFLECTION PROFILE

  • Ayarza, P.
  • Teixell, A.
  • Carbonell, Ramón
A high-resolution controlled-source wide-angle reflection seismic experiment was carried out in Morocco in spring 2010. The energy released by six explosions was recorded by 939 Reftek 125a stations (Texans) from the IRIS instrument pool. The location of the shots had an average spacing of 70 km between them. The charge (approximately 1 TM) was distributed in 2–4 boreholes per shot point at depths of 30–60 m., The crustal structure and topography of the Moho boundary beneath the Atlas Mountains of Morocco has been constrained by a controlled source, wide-angle seismic reflection transect: the SIMA experiment (Seismic Imaging of the Moroccan Atlas). It is a high resolution seismic profile acquired from the Sahara craton across the High and the Middle Atlas and the Rif Mountains., Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, CGL2007–63889, CGL2006–00041; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, CGL2010–15416; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.
