  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
FICARAM-VI Cruise (29HE20030408) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2003, Annual Progress Monitoring and quantification of the uptake of CO2 in the Atlantic . 1) Assess the variability of air-sea carbon flows.2) Determine the anthropogenic carbon content in the Atlantic Ocean: its spatial and interannual variation. Partial pressure (or fugacity) of carbon dioxide, dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, alkalinity, temperature, salinity and other variables collected from discrete sample and profile observations using CTD, Spectrophotometer for pH measurement and other instruments from the HESPERIDES in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2003-04-08 to 2003-04-24

FICARAM-XV Cruise (29HE20130320) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2013, FICARAM cruise aims to investigate the evolution of decadal anthropogenic carbon and to evaluate the CO2 uptake capacity in the sector South Atlantic Ocean and its spread to Ecuador and Nord-tropical zone. Another important component of FICARAM cruise aims examine the biological and biogeochemical mechanisms that hinder total dissolved organic carbon (DOC) remineralisation in marine systems, taking a multidisciplinary perspective and applying many different approaches. This objective is the global objective of the Spanish project DOREMI that join this FICARAM cruise. Along the section, the DOREMI project will test the effect of different factors (carbon and nutrient additions, and microbial structure) on DOC degradation in epipelagic, mesopelagic and deep waters, developing some experiments determining the potential degradability of mesopelagic and epipelagic DOM, and the role that labile C supplements plays regulating this process and by the microbial structure

CATARINA_LEG1 CRUISE, RV SARMIENTO DE GAMBOA

  • Ríos, Aida F.
  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
CATARINA_LEG1 Cruise (29SG20120622) carried out on the Research Vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa in 2012, CATARINA (Carbon Transport and Acidification Rates in the North Atlantic). The main objectives are to quantify the changes in circulation and ventilation of the North Atlantic water bodies and their effects on anthropogenic carbon uptake. It is also intended to evaluate the impact of current CO2 emissions based on the production and conservation of calcium carbonate in the North Atlantic, as well as the potential impact of future ocean acidification on calcareous organisms

CATARINA LEG 2 - PALEOACID CRUISE, RV SARMIENTO DE GAMBOA

  • Ríos, Aida F.
  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
CATARINA Leg 2 - PALEOACID Cruise (29SG20120724) carried out on the Research Vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa in 2012, he Leg 2 of CATARINA (PALEOACID) cruise aims to retrieve surface and subsurface sedimentary samples from the bottom (Box Corer, Piston Corer y Gravity Corer) of the North Atlantic at around 3000-4000 m depth in several areas currently bathed by different components of the North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW), as the Labrador Sea Water (LSW), Denmark Strait Overflow Water (DSOW) Iceland-Scotland Overflow Water (ISOW) and North-East Atlantic Deep Water (NEADW). Neighbor areas of Gibbs Fracture Zone (GFZ), the main deep passage between the West and East North Atlantic basins are considered priority places to obtain samples. It has been used an Multisensor Core Logger (MSCL) onboard and X-ray equipment that allows to obtain x-rays of the different sections of the core
