Multiplex real-time PCR for detection and quantification of Colletotrichum abscissum and C. gloeosporioides on Citrus leaves

Repositorio: ReDivia Repositorio Digital del Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias
Pereira, W. V., Bertolini, Edson, Cambra, Mariano, Massola Junior, N. S.

Colletotrichum abscissum and C. gloeosporioides are the causal agents of citrus Postbloom Fruit Drop (PFD), a major disease in several countries of the American continent. These pathogens infect only floral structures; however, in the absence of floral tissue, they survive asymptomatically on the leaf tissue. Thus, detecting and quantifying pathogens on leaves are critical for epidemiological studies. Colletotrichum species are detected through isolation, serological methods and conventional…

A single injection of corifollitropin alfa supplemented with human chorionic gonadotropin increases follicular recruitment and transferable embryos in the rabbit

Repositorio: ReDivia Repositorio Digital del Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias
Viudes-De-Castro, María P., Marco-Jiménez, Francisco, Más Pellicer, Alba, García-Domínguez, Ximo, Talavan, Amparo, Salvador Vicente, José

Superovulation protocols are designed to achieve maximum embryo yields. Nevertheless, ovarian response control and the quality of obtained embryos are still a challenge. On the other hand, to save the superovulated embryos until their subsequent use, it is usual to cryopreserve them, so it is also crucial to assess their cryotolerance. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of a single injection of corifollitropin alfa (FSH‐CTP) alone or supplemented with human chorionic gonadotropin…

Franco-Navarro, Juan D., Brumos, Javier, Rosales, Miguel A., Cubero-Font, Paloma, Talón, Manuel, Colmenero-Flores, José M.

Chloride (Cl–) is a micronutrient that accumulates to macronutrient levels since it is normally available in nature and actively taken up by higher plants. Besides a role as an unspecific cell osmoticum, no clear biological roles have been explicitly associated with Cl– when accumulated to macronutrient concentrations. To address this question, the glycophyte tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. var. Habana) has been treated with a basal nutrient solution supplemented with one of three salt…

Can interactions among predators alter the natural regulation of an herbivore in a climate change scenario? The case of Tetranychus urticae and its predators in citrus

Repositorio: ReDivia Repositorio Digital del Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias
Urbaneja-Bernat, Pablo, Ibanez, Victoria, Montserrat, Marta, Aguilar-Fenollosa, Ernestina, Jaques, Josep A.

Climate change can dramatically affect the food web configuration of arthropod communities through its effects on species interactions. We have studied whether these effects could alter the probability of local extinction of three predatory mites naturally associated with the two spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, in citrus in Spain and, therefore, disrupt the biological control of this phytophagous mite. Laboratory and semi-field results provide evidence that the natural regulation of T…

Vanaclocha, Pilar, Jones, Moneen M., Tansey, James A., Monzó, César, Chen, Xulin, Stansly, Philip A.

The Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) is the key pest of citrus due to its role as vector of huanglongbing. ACP control mostly relies on frequent insecticide applications therefore increasing selection for insecticide resistance. Optimization of field application rates and rotation of insecticide modes of action (MoA) would minimize this risk. Baseline toxicity responses of ACP to commonly used insecticides provide a basis for defining application field rates and are thus needed to track potential…

Day length is a determinant of flowering time in rice. Phytochromes participate in flowering regulation by measuring the number of daylight hours to which the plant is exposed. Here we describe G123, a rice mutant generated by irradiation, which displays insensitivity to the photoperiod and early flowering under both long day and short day conditions. To detect the mutation responsible for the early flowering phenotype exhibited by G123, we generated an F2 population, derived from crossing with…

Elvira-González, Laura, Medina, Vicente, Rubio, Luis, Galipienso, Luis

Southern tomato virus (STV) is a double-stranded RNA virus (genus Amalgavirus, family Amalgaviridae) with a persistent lifestyle, transmitted only vertically by seed. STV is widely distributed showing a high incidence in tomato crops from different production regions. Acute viruses usually induce plant development and cell ultra-structural changes related to the production of plant symptoms. Some of these changes are the consequence of alterations in the expression of endogenous plant microRNAs…

Munoz-Fambuena, Natalia, Nicolás-Almansa, M., Martínez-Fuentes, Amparo, Reig, Carmina, Iglesias, Domingo J., Primo-Millo, Eduardo, Mesejo, Carlos, Agustí, Manuel

Background and Aims In woody species, the juvenile period maintains the axillary meristems in a vegetative stage, unable to flower, for several years. However, in adult trees, some 1-year-old meristems flower whereas others remain vegetative to ensure a polycarpic growth habit. Both types of trees, therefore, have non-flowering meristems, and we hypothesize that the molecular mechanism regulating flower inhibition in juvenile trees is different from that in adult trees. Methods In adult Citrus…
