Nanostructured fibrin agarose hydrogel as a novel haemostatic agent

Repositorio: Digibug. Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Granada
Campos Cuerva, Rafael, Alaminos Mingorance, Miguel, Campos Muñoz, Antonio Jesús

Blood loss remains a major concern during surgery and can increase the morbidity of the intervention. The use of topical haemostatic agents to overcome this issue therefore becomes necessary. Fibrin sealants are promising haemostatic agents due to their capacity to promote coagulation, but their effectiveness and applicability need to be improved. We have compared the haemostatic efficacy of a novel nanostructured fibrin‐agarose hydrogel patch, with (c‐NFAH) or without cells (a‐NFAH), against..., This work was supported by preclinical research funds from the Regional Government of Andalusia through the Andalusian Initiative for Advanced Therapies

One of the leading factors for this emergence has been the massive use of antibiotics growth-promoter (AGPs) in livestock, enhancing the spread of AMR among human pathogenic bacteria. Thus, several alternatives such as probiotics, prebiotics, or phytobiotics have been proposed for using in animal feeding to maintain or improve productive levels while diminishing the negative effects of AGPs. Reducing the use of...

M. has been partially supported by MTM2016-75390 (Mineco, Spain) and 2017-SGR-395 (Generalitat de Catalunya), This paper aims to study time periodic solutions for 3D inviscid quasi–geostrophic model. We show the existence of non trivial rotating patches by suitable perturbation of stationary solutions given by generic revolution shapes around the vertical axis. Diseases caused by bacteria cause millions of deaths every year. In addition, the problem of resistance to antibiotics is so serious that it threatens the achievements of modern medicine. This is a very important global problem as some bacteria can also develop persistence. Indeed, the persistence of pathogenic bacteria has evolved as a potent survival strategy to overcome host organisms’ defense mechanisms. Additionally, chronic or persistent infections may be caused by persisters which could..., Regional Ministry of Health and Families (Andalucia, Spain) RPS 24665

Regular exercise at the intensity matching maximal fat oxidation (FATmax) has been proposed as a key element in both athletes and clinical populations when aiming to enhance the body’s ability to oxidize fat. In order to allow a more standardized and tailored training approach, the connection between FATmax and the individual aerobic thresholds (AerT) has been examined. Although recent findings strongly suggest that a relationship exists between these two intensities, correlation alone is not...

Loan price modelling for local governments using risk premium analysis

Repositorio: Digibug. Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Granada
Navarro-Galera, Andrés, Rayo-Cantón, Salvador, Lara-Rubio, Juan, Buendía-Carrillo, Dionisio

Previous studies have highlighted the question of government loan interest as one of great current importance. Government borrowing levels are high, and reducing interest payments would generate savings to meet other spending needs and/or to lower taxation, thus supporting the sustainability of public finances. However, no previous study has presented a method for a local government to calculate its own credit risk and thus be in a position to negotiate lower interest rates on its borrowing....

The distribution of Mg isotopes in minerals is becoming increasingly relevant in Earth science. Usually, they are determined by dissolving mineral concentrates and, after purifying Mg with ion exchange resins, analysing the resulting solutions by TIMS or, most often, MC-ICP-MS. When applied to individual minerals, these methods are slow and prone to contamination from impurities in the concentrates, inconveniences that may be avoided using spot analysis techniques such as LA-MC-ICP-MS or SIMS,..., Andalucian-FEDER grant P18-FR-1696, Spanish grant PID2020-114872GB-I00

Multi-word terms (MWTs), in the form of noun compounds (NCs), are frequently used in specialized texts (Nakov 2013). They consist of juxtaposed terms with underlying semantic structures that limit the combination of arguments (Pinker 1989). However, NCs formed by more than two terms have received little attention. This study focused on English and Spanish three-term endocentric NCs used in Coastal Engineering. To explore the presence of semantic preference and semantic prosody in these MWTs, a...

The aim of this study is to understand the suffering of a patient with an illness, by using a secondary research method, that is, a qualitative meta-study. The primary data source of the meta-study includes “biographical reports”. This project is based on a case study, in which the first-hand experiences of a patient with an illness were collected. The findings of the reports were compiled using the Archivos de la Memoria collection of the Index Foundation (Granada, Spain) and journals..., O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender a experiência do sofrimento frente à doença, utilizando um método de pesquisa secundário, metaestudo qualitativo. El presente trabajo tiene..., Statistical inference is widely applied in scientific research to support the study hypothesis. However, its interpretation in these contexts denotes a lack of the "statistical sense" necessary at the professional level. This fact has been addressed in previous investigations with some controversy, since its logic involves a large number of concepts, which makes its use and interpretation sometimes not appropriate. The main of this paper is to analyze the interpretation of two...

The evaluation of algorithms and techniques to implement intrusion detection systems heavily rely on the existence of well designed datasets. In the last years, a lot of efforts have been done towards building these datasets. Yet, there is still room to improve. In this paper, a comprehensive review of existing datasets is first done, making emphasis on their main shortcomings. Then, we present a new dataset that is built with real traffic and up-to-date attacks. The main advantage of this...

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has one of the highest mortality rates among all cancer types. Its delayed diagnosis precludes curative resection, thus most of the current therapies against PDAC are based on chemo- and radiotherapy. Unfortunately, these strategies are insufficient to improve its poor prognosis. Despite the advances made in chemotherapy (e.g. nab-Paclitaxel and Gemcitabine), many patients with PDAC are unable to benefit from them due to the rapid development of drug..., This work was funded by grants from Instituto de Salud Carlos III (Grant No. DTS15/00201 and DTS17/00081) and Junta de Andalucía (Grant No. PIN-0474-2016).
