SYNTHETIC DATASETS GENERATED BY LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS

  • Torterolo Orta, Yanco Amor
  • Roseti, Sofía Micaela
  • Moreno-Sandoval, Antonio

This dataset is the result of the work done in the project GRESEL-UAM: About GRESEL: AI Generation Results Enriched with Simplified Explanations Based on Linguistic Features (Resultados de Generación de IA Enriquecidos con Explicaciones Simplificadas Basadas en Características Lingüísticas).

This dataset is part of the publication titled "Assessing a Literary RAG System with a Human-Evaluated Synthetic QA Dataset Generated by an LLM: Experiments with Knowledge Graphs," which will be presented in September 2025 in Zaragoza, within the framework of the conference of the Sociedad Española para el Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural (SEPLN). The work has already been accepted for publication in SEPLN’s official journal, Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural.

This dataset consists of three synthetically generated datasets, a process known as Synthetic Data Generation (SDG). We used three different LLMs: deepseek-r1:14b, llama3.1:8b-instruct-q8_0, and mistral:7b-instruct. Each was given a prompt instructing them to generate a question answering (QA) dataset based on context fragments from the novel Trafalgar by Benito Pérez Galdós.

These datasets were later used to evaluate a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system.

Three CSV files are provided, each corresponding to the synthetic dataset generated by one of the models. In total, the dataset contains 359 items. The header includes the following fields: id, context, question, answer, and success. Fields are separated by tabs.

The id column is simply an identifier number. The context column contains the text fragment from which the model generated the questions and answers. The question and answer fields contain the generated questions and answers, respectively. The success column indicates whether the model successfully generated the question and answer in the corresponding fields ("yes" or "no").

MGBAS2 REFERENCE DATA:REFERENCE FIRE PERIMETERS OBTAINED FROM SENTINEL-2 IMAGERY OVER MADAGASCAR FOR THE YEARS 2019 AND 2021

  • Franquesa Fuentetaja, Magi
  • Kull, Christian A.
  • Fernández-García, Víctor
The MGBAS2 reference data was derived from Sentinel-2 images over a set of 6 tiles (sampling units)sampled following a design customized for the Sentinel tiling grid system and to represent low and high burned area occurrence strata in Madagascar. Over each tile Sentinel-2 time series were defined based on a set of conditions for minimizing cloud cover and to guarantee series length and a minimum time lag between image pairs. Sentinel-2 image pairs were classified with a Random Forest (RF) algorithm to provide burned perimeters of depicting areas that burned between the two dates that were combined in a synthetic burned area reference dataset. This dataset represent for each unit burned and unburned polygons and masked areas. A detailed description of the dataset can be found in Fernández-García et al.(2023) ("Madagascar’s burned area from Sentinel-2 imagery (2016–2022): four times higher than from lower resolution sensors", in preparation).

FIREURISK_CANOPY_FUEL_PARAMETERS: CANOPY FUEL LOAD, CANOPY BULK DENSITY

  • Aragoneses, Elena
  • García, Mariano
  • Chuvieco, Emilio
Spatially explicit data on forest canopy fuel parameters provide critical information for wildfire propagation modelling, emission estimations and risk assessment. We used a multi-sensor approach integrating satellite Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) observations from the Global Ecosystems Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) sensor, with multi-spectral and SAR imagery and biophysical variables to provide spatially-explicit estimates of two key descriptors of crown fire behaviour – canopy fuel load (CFL) and canopy bulk density (CBD) – over the European territory at 1 km2 grid resolution. GEDI L1B and L2A level footprints were used to estimate Leaf Area Density, from which CFL and CBD were subsequently derived. We then extrapolated the estimates to European areas not covered by GEDI using machine learning models with multispectral (Landsat 8) and SAR (Phased Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar sensor – PALSAR) imagery, and biophysical variables related with vegetation conditions, climate (temperature and humidity) and terrain conditions. Pixel-level uncertainty for the spatial extrapolation was also estimated. This dataset of these European canopy fuel parameters, at 1 km spatial resolution, encompasses a total of 4 maps including: forest canopy fuel load and canopy bulk density, along with their associated uncertainties. Further details about the generation of these maps can be read in: Aragoneses, E., García, M., Tang, H., and Chuvieco, E.: A multi-sensor approach allows confident mapping of forest canopy fuel load and canopy bulk density to assess wildfire risk at the European scale, Remote Sensing of Environment, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2024.114578, 2025. These maps complement the categorical information of the FirEUrisk European fuel type map for the forest fuel types in Aragoneses, E., García, M., Salis, M., Ribeiro, L. M., and Chuvieco, E.: Classification and mapping of European fuels using a hierarchical, multipurpose fuel classification system, Earth System Science Data, 15, 1287–1315, https://doi.org/10.5194/essd-15-1287-2023, 2023; and the previously generated set of canopy fuel parameters (forest canopy height, canopy cover and canopy base height) in Aragoneses, E., García, M., Ruiz-Benito, P., and Chuvieco, E.: Mapping forest canopy fuel parameters at European scale using spaceborne LiDAR and satellite data, Remote Sensing of Environment, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2024.114005, 2024.

ENDANGERED EARTHEN ARCHITECTURE PROJECT. NEW CHALLENGES IN THE CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION PRACTICES OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL EARTHEN MASONRIES IN WESTERN ASIA

  • Volpi, Luca
  • Santoro, Francesco
  • Arizzi, Anna
  • Lanzaro, Nicola
  • Nadali, Davide

Conservation of archaeological earthen architectures (i.e. mudbricks) is a challenging task. Earthen architectures deteriorate in a short period of time once exposed to weathering and other decay agents. Their conservation is one of the crucial points of every cultural heritage programme where earthen architectures are attested, and it also has ethical and philosophical issues. Selected area of the project is Western Asia, a region in which the use of earthen masonries was substantial due to the climatic and environmental conditions of the area and still is. The project is intended to investigate the possibilities of enhancing the durability and strength of mudbricks against weathering and other decay agents using stabilising materials that are sustainable, green, and ecologically friendly, testing both the use of eco-friendly components with a low environmental impact (e.g., nanoparticles of clay) and components originating from recycled materials. Tests on mudbricks (both replicas and archaeological) will estimate the compatibility and applicability of these materials for the conservation process of mudbricks, together with their efficacy based on petrographic, chemical, mineralogical, mechanical and hydrographic tests. The research is completed by a comparative analysis of the conservation and restoration practices on a regional basis, with the use of satellite environmental and climatic data. The research is conceived as an analytic work only. The application in situ of the obtained results as well as their development on a large scale are beyond the limits of the proposal.

The dataset contains all raw data pertaining to the chemical, mineralogical, petrographic, mechanical and hydric properties of mudbrick samples from the site of Tell Zurghul/Nigin (Dhi Qar province, Iraq), analysed as part of the EnEAp project:

  • Climate: authors' elaboration of climatic data (T Min/Max; RH 9am/6pm; Rainfall) for three reference Years (2001, 2011, 2021) for the site spot (archaeological site of Tell Zurghul/Nigin, South Iraq)
  • Photo: raw images of samples with scale bar and ID number on the top right.
  • Characterization: colour, mineralogical, chemical and petrographic raw data.
  • Mechanical properties: Scotch Tape Test and Surface Hardness Test.
  • Hydric properties: imbibition time and contact angle test, rain resistance test raw data and photos.
