BESDUI: A BENCHMARK FOR END-USER STRUCTURED DATA USER INTERFACES

  • Garcia, Roberto
  • Gil, Rosa
  • Gimeno, Juan Manuel
  • Bakke, Eirik
  • Karger, David R.
Benchmark for End-User Structured Data User Interfaces (BESDUI) based on the Berlin SPARQL Benchmark (BSBM) but intended for benchmarking the user experience while exploring a structured dataset, not the performance of the query engine. BSBM is just used to provide the data to be explored. This is a cheap User Interface benchmark as it does not involve users but experts, who measure how many interaction steps are required to complete each of the benchmark tasks, if possible. This also facilitates comparing different tools without the bias that different end-user profiles might introduce. The way to measure this interaction steps and convert them to an estimate of the required time to complete a task is based on the Keystroke-Level Model (KLM)

This dataset includes experimental results about the use of the fertilizers Fe-DTPA and Fe-EDDS as iron source for solar driven photo-Fenton process at circumneutral pH. The final objective was to evaluate the performance of the treatment for the removal of a mixture of agrochemicals (imidachloprid, diuron and propiconazole) from simulated wastewater produced in the pineapple fruit processing, to obtain an effluent that could be reused in on-farm irrigation. As it can be observed in the file, the optimized operational conditions for both chelating agents were obtained at an Fe+3/H2O2 ratio of 10/25 mg L-1, reaching close to or total pesticides depletion in about 20 minutes. It also includes data to evaluate the effect on the radicals scavenging and chelates stability of organic matter and inorganic salts as well as phytotoxicity of generated byproducts. This work was performed in the framework of the H2020-MSCA-RISE-2015 project under REA grant agreement690618

The files contained in this dataset correspond to the neuroimaging data and experimental paradigms performed in a patient undergoing awake brain surgery for tumor removal in February 2020 at the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge. In general terms, the experimental paradigm consisted in the presentation of the words ROJO (red in Spanish) or AZUL (blue in Spanish) printed in either red or blue ink color. The patient was instructed to press either a left or right button when the ink color was either red or blue, respectively, ignoring the word itself. After each trial, a visual feedback was presented showing either a green tick (correct feedback) or a red cross (incorrect feedback), which could either be congruent or incongruent with respect to the patient's performance. This task was performed during the acquisition of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), to detect relevant brain areas for feedback processing in terms of blood oxygenation levels, as well as during electrical stimulation mapping (ESM), which consists of applying an electrical current in the brain surface during the realization of a functional task inside the operating room during awake brain surgery procedures.

GENETIC DIVERSITY OF MARINE HABITAT-FORMING SPECIES

The Genetic diversity of marine habitat-forming species database gathers information on genetic diversity estimates obtained from microsatellites, considering seven different taxa (bryozoan, hexacoral, hydrozoa, octocoral, seagrass, seaweed, and sponge).
Database collection
A literature survey was conducted on the 28th of October 2019 on the ISI Web of Science using different search strategies combining the word “microsatellite” and the following different keywords: “bryozoan”, “coral”, “eelgrass”, “fucoid”, “gorgonian”, “kelp”, “macroalgae”, “octocoral”, “porifera”, “seagrass”, “seaweed”, “sponge”. We selected 264 from a total of 809 publications, filtering the land and freshwater records, as well as the publications that do not analyse marine habitat-forming species, genetic data, the publications that do not use microsatellites to estimate genetic diversity or the publications analysing farm samples (i.e. non-wild populations). Moreover, publications which did not specify coordinates neither in the publication nor in the supporting information were also removed from the database.
Database processing
One database record corresponds to one local population - considered as a group of colonies, specimens, or individuals of the same species - in a specific geographic location defined by latitude and longitude coordinates and by a depth range. For each record or population, the following information is provided: Species name, Latitude and Longitude in World Geodesic System 1984 (WGS 84), Loci, Number of samples (N_samples), Number of Individuals (N_individuals), Number of alleles (Na), Observed heterozygosity (Ho), Expected heterozygosity (He), FIS, and Allelic richness (Ar).
We added the variable “Taxa” (bryozoan, hexacoral, hydrozoan, octocoral, seagrass, seaweed, and sponge) in the database. We reviewed the non-accepted and wrongly named species extracted from the original publications by using theWorld Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) Taxon Match tool
All database records were assigned to a marine ecoregion (the smallest-scale units in the Marine Ecoregions of the World – MeoW – system) and to a marine province (the slightly large areas in MeoW which include one or more ecoregions) according to Spalding et al., (2007). They were spatially joined using the geographic coordinates of each database record and the polygon shapefile of each marine ecoregion and province, using the function getRegions of the R package "meowR" (Byrnes 2016). Thus, the variables "ECOREGION", "PROVINCE", and "REALM were included in the database.
We also added a Marine Protected Area (MPA) variable by using theProtected Planet database. We defined each database record as protected – record matching with the MPA status “Adopted”, “Designated”, and “Inscribed” – and not protected – record not matching with any MPA or matching with the MPA status “Proposed” or “Established”. Thus, we added the variable "MPA" (1 / 0 If the samples are from inside of Marine Protection Area or not according to the Protected Planted database). Moreover, we included variables related to each MPA description in Protected Planet (e.g. MPA Name, MPA Status, MPA year).

All variables are presented in an excel sheet (xlxs). The objective of this study is to analyze whether women's level of knowledge about the benefits and harms of screening, their time perspective and their concern about breast cancer providing detailed information on the benefits and adverse effects of breast cancer screening affects, directly or indirectly, affects the intention to participate in it. The database includes variables that allow us to construct the outcome of informed choice, a variable that combines knowledge, attitudes and intentions. Other variables that reflect women's perceptions of how their decision to participate, or not, in screening affects them, now or in the future, are also collected: decisional conflict; anxiety about screening participation; concern about breast cancer; anticipated regret; time perspective; perceived importance of the benefits/harms of screening.

ADSORPTION COLUMN EXPERIMENTS USING NORIT RB3 ADSORBENT: TOLUENE-N2 MIXTURE DATASET

  • Myers, Timothy
  • Valverde Salamanca, Abel
  • Cabrera-Codony, Alba
Lab-scale adsorption column experiments were performed using steam activated carbon Norit RB3 adsorbent, in order to obtain reliable data about the adsorption of toluene using N2 as carrier gas. The experiments were held at 26 ºC and atmospheric pressure, introducing 0.16 g of a previously sieved adsorbent sample (212-425 µm) into a 10 x 5.4 mm (D x L) glass column. The inlet flow was set constant at 205 mL/min of toluene-N2 mixture, while the concentrations of toluene in the carrier gas ranged 409, 1316 and 2835 mg/m3. The composition of the gas exiting the column was determined by means of gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC-FID). The correct calibration of the apparatus allowed a subsequent treatment of the data to obtain the breakthrough curve of toluene at the outlet of the column.

CREDIT AND PROPERTY RIGHTS AMONG SMALLHOLDERS OF THE GIRONA REGION (1768-1773)

  • Congost, Rosa
  • Garcia-Orallo, Ricard
  • Saguer i Hom, Enric
Supplementary materials of the article "Seeing Credit and Property Rights from Below. The Experience of Catalan Smallholders in the Eighteenth Century". The aim is to examine the participation of the 'treballadors' of the second half of the 18th century in the credit and land markets, as well as to evaluate the impact of the 1750 decree that reduced the interest rate of the censals from 5% to 3%. An important part of the material comes from an ongoing project of automatic transcription of the books of the Registry of Deeds of Girona. We have only worked with the first six years (1668-1773, 13 books) because from 1774 onwards, the Registry of Girona was fragmented and the books corresponding to the separate territories have not been preserved. The material available is made up of four different databases containing: (1) the credit operations recorded between 1768 and 1773; (2) the 3,604 living annuities (censals) recorded in 1775, by order of the Reial Audiència de Catalunya, specifying the date of creation; (3) land sales and emphyteutic contracts (including sub-emphyteusis and 'rabasses mortes') recorded between 1768 and 1773; (4) the aggregate values per municipality of sales and censals per 1000 inhabitants, used to estimate the correlation between the two variables., Material complementari de l'article "Seeing Credit and Property Rights from Below. The Experience of Catalan Smallholders in the Eighteenth Century".
