SUBMARINE MASS MOVEMENTS ON THE PALOMARES CONTINENTAL SLOPE (W MEDITERRANEAN). MORPHOMETRIC DATA INVENTORY [DATASET]

  • Casas, David
  • Estrada, Ferran
  • López-González, Nieves
  • Retegui-Schiettekatte, Leire Anne
Over 3620 km2 of high-resolution bathymetry from the Palomares continental slope was analyzed to quantify the impact of recent mass movements on this margin, which is located in the W. Mediterranean Sea. A total of 936 landslides were identified, mapped and characterized by defining several morphometric variables that outline the accumulated impact of landslides equivalent to 918 km2 and 10.34 km3 of eroded sediment on the continental slope. The smallest event was 0.0014 km2, while the largest was 32.48 km2. The size-frequency analysis of the dataset is consistent with those of other published inventories, including onshore cases. This result allows us to assume that the scale-invariant properties of the events mapped. Scale-invariant properties can be explained by different models; self-organized criticality (SOC) is probably the most assumed by the scientific community, although alternative models may be nominated. Each model has important implications in terms of the landslide distribution and long-term landslide history of any slope. Alternative scenarios, such as submarine slopes, with more precise landslide inventories may contribute to new hazard assessment models that consider scaling exponents derived from size–frequency distributions, Spanish projects inGravitas (PID2022-138258OB-I00) and FAUCES (CTM2015-65461-C2-1-R)., With the institutional support of the ‘Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence’ accreditation (CEX2019-000928-S), Peer reviewed

DW-MRI DATA OF INFLAMMATORY CHALLENGES IN RATS

  • Cerdán Cerdá, Antonio
  • García-Hernández, Raquel
  • Canals, Santiago
  • De Santis, Silvia
Our framework is based on stereotaxic injections of neurotoxins (saline contralaterally) in the rat hippocampus, followed by MRI acquisition, perfusion and histology. Specifically, we injected: i) lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to induce microglia and astrocyte reactivity, ii) ibotenic acid to induce microglia reactivity, proliferation and neuronal death in the hippocampus, and axonal damage in the fimbria, i.e., its main projection to the prefrontal cortex, and iii) LPS animals pre-treated with PLX5622 to deplete microglia and isolate astrocyte. Then, the rats underwent an MRI protocol comprising a stimulated echo diffusion weighted MRI sequence (b=0, 2000 and 4000 s/mm2, diffusion times 15-60 ms)., Peer reviewed

MAGNETICALLY-DRIVEN SELECTIVE SYNTHESIS OF AU CLUSTERS ON FE3O4 NANOPARTICLES

  • Sebastián, Víctor
  • Calatayud, M. Pilar
  • Goya, Gerardo F.
  • Santamaría, Jesús
A novel procedure to direct the local synthesis of gold clusters on Fe3O4 nanocrystals by means of alternating magnetic fields (AMFs) is demonstrated. This process allows growing gold selectively onto the heated magnetite surface, while keeping the synthesis solution comparatively cold. Sequential AMF cycles allowed fine-tuning the amount of gold on the magnetite surfaces., Funding from MINECO (Spain) and from ERC Advanced Grant (ERC-AdG-267626, HECTOR) is gratefully acknowledged., Peer reviewed
