DCE-MRI (DYNAMIC CONTRAST ENHANCED - MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING) PROSTATE IMAGES

Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) of prostate cancer to facilitate its diagnosis. A 3mm slice fat-suppressed T2W fast spin-echo sequence (TR/TE/ETL: 3400 ms/85 ms/13) is used to acquire images in sagittal and oblique coronal planes, the latter planes being orientated perpendicular or parallel to the prostate PZ – rectal wall axis. Three-dimensional T2W fast spin-echo (TR/TE/ETL: 3600 ms}/143 ms/109, slice thickness: 1.25 mm) images are then acquired in an oblique axial plane. The nominal matrix and FoV of the 3D T2W fast spin-echo images are 320x256 and 280x240 mm2, respectively, thereby affording sub-millimetric pixel resolution within the imaging plane.\nDCE-MRI is performed using a fat suppressed 3D T$_1$ VIBE sequence (TR/TE/Flip angle: 3.25 ms/1.12 ms/10 degrees; Matrix: 256x192; FoV: 280x210 (with 75% rectangular FoV); slab of 16 partitions of 3.5 mm thickness; temporal resolution: 6 s/slab over approximately 5 min). A power injector (Medrad, Indianola, USA) is used to provide a bolus injection of Gd-DTPA (Dotarem, Guerbet, Roissy, France) at a dose of 0.2 ml Gd-DTPA/kg of body weight

SUPPLEMENTAL DATA OF: EFFECT OF SEX ON GLUCOSE HANDLING BY ADIPOCYTES ISOLATED FROM RAT SUBCUTANEOUS, MESENTERIC AND PERIGONADAL ADIPOSE TISSUE

Dataset from a study on the effect of sex on glucose handling by adipocytes isolated from rat subcutaneous, mesenteric and perigonadal adipose tissue.
Adult rat epididymal adipocytes are able to convert large amounts of glucose to lactate and glycerol. However, fatty acid efflux is much lower than that expected from glycerol levels if they were the product of lipolysis. Use of glucose for lipogenesis is limited, in contrast with the active glycolysis-derived lactate (and other 3-carbon substrates). In this study, we analyzed whether white adipose tissue (WAT) site and sex affect these processes.
Mature adipocytes from perigonadal, mesenteric and subcutaneous WAT of female and male rats were isolated, and incubated with 7 or 14 mM glucose during 1 or 2 days. Glucose consumption, metabolite efflux and gene expression of glycolytic and lipogenesis-related genes were measured.

REPLICATION DATA FOR: DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR THE SELECTION AND INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT OF PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAMS IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT

  • Garrido Baserba, Manel
The wastewater treatment plays an important role in the maintenance of natural water resources. However, regardless of the technology used or the level of treatment required, the treatment plants of the XXI century are highly complex systems that not only need to meet technical requirements, but also environmental and economic criteria. In this context, decision support systems for environmental domains (English, Environmental Decision Support Systems or EDSS) are configured as an effective tool to support the selection and evaluation of integrated water treatment alternatives. The EDSS designed can be defined as interactive software, flexible and adaptable, which links the numerical models / algorithms, techniques and environmental ontologies, knowledge-based environment, and is capable of supporting decision making, either in choosing between different alternatives, improving potential solutions, or in the integrated assessment using methodologies ranging from environmental (Life Cycle Analysis) to economic, La depuració d’aigües residuals juga un paper fonamental en el manteniment dels recursos hídrics naturals.

The Mass Mortality Events (MME-T-MEDNet) dataset compiles information reported on mass mortality events of species in the Mediterranean Sea affecting different organism dwelling in coastal ecosystems.

The data compiled in the MME-T-MEDNet dataset was gathered from published scientific papers, grey literature and technical reports using different searching strategies in ISI Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar using different sets of keywords (including those used in Rivetti et al. 2014 and Marba et al. 2015) as well as through contacts with researchers across the Mediterranean. The dataset comprises mass mortality events impacts observed at discrete events generally related to warming episodes across the Mediterranean. The dataset provides information about the year, season, geographic coordinates, protection status of the geographic location, species phylum, species name, the degree of mortality impact, depth range of the mortality and reported biotic and abiotic mortality drivers of the event.

P. vivax infection during pregnancy has been associated with poor outcomes such as anemia, low birth weight and congenital malaria, thus representing an important global health problem. However, no vaccine is currently available for its prevention. Vir genes were the first putative virulent factors associated with P. vivax infections, yet very few studies have examined their potential role as targets of immunity. We investigated the immunogenic properties of five VIR proteins and two long synthetic peptides containing conserved VIR sequences (PvLP1 and PvLP2) in the context of the PregVax cohort study including women from five malaria endemic countries: Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, India and Papua New Guinea (PNG) at different timepoints during and after pregnancy. Antibody responses against all antigens were detected in all populations, with PNG women presenting the highest levels overall. P. vivax infection at sample collection time was positively associated with antibody levels against PvLP1 (fold-increase: 1.60 at recruitment -first antenatal visit-) and PvLP2 (fold-increase: 1.63 at delivery), and P. falciparum co-infection was found to increase those responses (for PvLP1 at recruitment, fold-increase: 2.25). Levels of IgG against two VIR proteins at delivery were associated with higher birth weight (27 g increase per duplicating antibody levels, p<0.5). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from PNG uninfected pregnant women had significantly higher antigen-specific IFN-g TH1 responses (p=0.006) and secreted less pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF and IL-6 after PvLP2 stimulation than P. vivax-infected women (p<0.5). These data demonstrate that VIR antigens induce the natural acquisition of antibody and T cell memory responses that might be important in immunity to P. vivax during pregnancy in very diverse geographical settings.
