ACCELERATION OF THE DIELS-ALDER REACTION BETWEEN 9-FUNCTIONALIZED ANTHRACENES AND C60/C70 IN THE CAVITY OF A WATER SOLUBLE (DATASET)

Herein we report on the acceleration of the Diels-Alder reaction between a series of 9- functionalized anthracenes and C60/C70 encapsulated in a water-soluble metallo-organic Pd(II)-subphthalocyanine cage (SubPc-cage), which performs as a catalytic molecular reactor that provides a beneficial hydrophobic environment. Negatively and positively charged anthracenes do not react either with C60 or C70, due to a favored solvation in water medium and/or to detrimental interactions with positively-charged Pd(II) corners of SubPc-cage. Experiments with C60 and C70 rendered parallel results, although C70 proved more reactive, leading to anthracene cycloadducts by reaction in the α bonds. All the results have been rationalized by theoretical calculations at the GFN2-xTB level.

Se ha visto alguna vez en las relaciones amorosas de las generaciones anteriores al informante, donde era frecuente que un hablante de portugués cambiase de idioma al comenzar otra relación. Ejemplos de cambio lingüístico. El informante narra cómo un día en su aldea quedaron asombrados al oír hablar portugués a un niño, porque tenían interiorizado que era lengua de los mayores., A tendência para mudar a língua é generalizada. Por vezes tem sido visto nas relações amorosas das gerações anteriores ao informante, onde era comum que um falante de português mudasse de língua ao iniciar a relação. O informante conta como um dia na sua aldeia ficaram surpreendidos ao ouvir uma criança falar português, porque tinham interiorizado que era a língua dos mais velhos., The tendency to linguistic shift is widespread. COMPARISON OF PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL RESPONSES OF LOCAL AND COMMERCIAL TOMATO VARIETIES UNDER WATER STRESS AND REHYDRATION

Water scarcity presents an increasingly urgent challenge with global implications for the production of irrigated vegetables. Among these crops, tomatoes stand out as one of the most widely cultivated. Given their vulnerability to water stress, it is crucial to ensure efficient and sustainable water management for tomato irrigation. This study aims to explore the varying capacities for drought avoidance, drought acclimation, and drought tolerance among three local and three commercial resilient tomato varieties in response to water stress and re-watering. We subjected tomato plants to either two brief periods of water stress (WE1) or one extended period of water stress (WE2), followed by rehydration, as evidenced by the measured stem water potential (Ψstem ≈ -1.6 MPa). Physiological and biochemical parameters were analyzed to understand how different tomato varieties respond to water stress. Our results did not reveal significant differences in the response to water stress among the varieties that could be attributed to their origin. Once the plants were rehydrated, they quickly regained their original values, with no statistically significant differences compared to untreated plants. An assessment of lipid peroxidation, antioxidant capacity, phenols, and flavonoids revealed that only during the second episode of water stress in WE1 plants or at the end of the prolonged water stress in WE2 plants did water stress trigger an overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which attacked membrane lipids and resulted in oxidative damage. However, after rehydration, tomato plants returned to normal values of oxidative parameters, indicating the absence of irreversible damage. Although the severe water stress did not compromise the viability of the plants, all treatments and varieties exhibited a predictable and substantial growth inhibition. In conclusion, the different tomato varieties studied displayed similar responses to water stress, primarily characterized by inhibition of gas exchange processes and heightened oxidative stress. Nonetheless, none of the plants suffered irreversible damage from this stress, as they fully recovered their normal physiological and biochemical values following re-watering. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ATTITUDES TOWARDS DOPING AND BEHAVIOURAL INTENTIONS TO DOPE: THE ROLE OF ATTITUDE CERTAINTY

The present study analyzed the role of meta-cognitive certainty in one’s attitudes towards doping. Participants were spanish athletes who reported their attitudes and behavioural intentions regarding doping itself, as well as attitudes and behavioural intentions regarding a legalisation proposal. As expected, attitudes predicted intentions in both cases. Most importantly, we hypothesised and found an interaction between attitudes and attitude certainty on intentions. That is, attitudes towards doping predicted intentions to dope to a greater extent for participants with higher (vs. lower) certainty in their attitudes. Likewise, attitudes towards the legalisation proposal predicted intentions to support that proposal and to engage in the banned behaviours if legalised to a greater extent for participants with higher (vs. lower) certainty in those attitudes
