Absorptive activities of the efferent ducts evaluated by the immunolocalization of aquaporin water channels and lectin histochemistry in adult cats

Ultrastructural and biochemical features of efferent ducts (EDs) are indicative of an intense absorptive activity towards the luminal fluid. This function was investigated by 1) the immunohistochemical localization of different aquaporins, integral membrane water channels that facilitate rapid passive movement of water, and 2) the histochemical localization of lectins, known to have specific affinity for glycoconjugate residues. AQP1 was mostly revealed at the apical surface and adluminal cytoplasm of non-ciliated cells and to a minor extent in their lateral plasma membrane, whereas it was absent in ciliated cells. Blood vessels showed AQP1-immunoreactivity, which was present in endothelial cells of venous vessels and capillaries and around the muscular sheath of arteries. AQP9 was expressed in the apical zone of ciliated and non-ciliated cells and in the lateral cell membrane. AQP2 and AQP5 were undetectable. Lectin histochemistry showed that non-ciliated cells contain glycans with terminal Neu5Acα2,3Galß1,3GalNAc, Neu5Acα2,3Galß1,4GlcNAc, Galß1,4GlcNAc, GalNAc (s-PNA, MAL II, RCA120, SBA reactivity) and with internal/terminal αMan (Con A affinity) at the luminal surface and the apical region. In addition, non-ciliated cells expressed oligosaccharides terminating with GalNAc and Neu5Acα2,6Gal/GalNAc (SNA reactivity) in the luminal surface and the apical zone, respectively. Ciliated cells revealed glycoconjugates only on cilia, which showed terminal Neu5Acα2,3Galß1,4GlcNAc (s-RCA120 staining) and GalNAc, as well as internal/terminal αMan and GlcNAc (s-WGA, GSA II staining). Data provide evidence for the involvement of different pathways in the bulk reabsorption of water and low molecular weight solutes by the non-ciliated cell of the cat EDs. AQP-mediated trans-cellular route can be hypothesized, together with fluid phase endocytosis mediated by the glycocalix and a well-developed endocytotic apparatus. Epithelial ciliated cells, whose main function is the movement of luminal content, might also participate in absorptive processes to a lesser extent

Actitudes del alumnado hacia la igualdad de género, Student attitudes towards gender equality

This article shows some of the results derived from a research project subsidized by the Andalusia Government, whose purpose is to create and offer digital resources for the assessment of gender culture in schools. We present the results of an attitudinal scale, which is valid and reliable, that allows measuring the degree of predisposition of students towards equality and coeducation. In this article, we describe students' attitudes towards gender equality. Results for the attitudes scale for Cronbach coefficient of reliability was 0.91 with an average saturation of 0.525 for the items in the principal component analysis. The random sample included 728 primary and Secondary school students from the province of Seville. The results show the students' positive attitude towards equality, although differences between boys and girls are observed. The data indicate that students display more deficits in the relational dimension., Este artículo recoge algunos resultados derivados de un proyecto de excelencia subvencionado por la Junta de Andalucía, cuyo propósito es crear y ofrecer recursos digitales para el diagnóstico de la cultura de género en la escuela. Este artículo presenta los resultados de una escala de actitudes, válida y fiable, que permite medir el grado de predisposición del alumnado hacia la igualdad y la coeducación. Con este artículo pretendemos conocer las actitudes del alumnado hacia la igualdad. La escala de actitudes obtiene un coeficiente de fiabilidad de 0,91 y una saturación media de los ítems en el componente principal de 0,525.  Participan en este estudio 728 alumnos y alumnas de Educación Primaria y Secundaria de la provincia de Sevilla. Los resultados muestran actitudes del alumnado favorables hacia la igualdad, aunque se observan diferencias entre chicos y chicas. Los datos indican que el alumnado presenta mayores déficits en el plano relacional.

La valoración de la importancia de las competencias transversales: comparación de su percepción al inicio y final de curso en alumnos de psicología, Assessment of the importance of cross-cutting competences: a comparison of the perception of psychology students at the beginning and end of their course

A learning based on competencies consists on acquisition some competencies that help to the student about scientific and technical knowledge, for to apply them in different contexts and to integrate them with its own attitudes for to be able to act in a professional way. The objective of this investigation is to know the opinion of the students on the learning based on competencies and with methodology ECTS and to compare the level of importance of the generic competencies. The sample is composed by 63 students of 3º of psychology. Two questionnaires Likert type scale has been applied to the beginning and the end of the course. The results show positive elements of this methodology, the students has been active element about their learning and satisfaction with the knowledge and abilities; but they also point out elements that should be improved, for example the work overload. There have been significant differences in function of time, but there haven’t been about gender. It concludes with some suggestions to improve the educational quality., Un aprendizaje basado en competencias consiste en desarrollar unas competencias que capacite al estudiante acerca de conocimientos científicos y técnicos, de aplicarlos en distintos contextos e integrarlos con sus propias actitudes para poder actuar de forma profesional. El objetivo de esta investigación es conocer la opinión de los alumnos sobre el aprendizaje basado en competencias y con metodología ECTS y comparar el nivel de importancia de las competencias genéricas. La muestra está compuesta por 63 alumnos de 3º de psicología. Se han aplicado dos cuestionarios tipo Likert al inicio y al final del curso. Los resultados indican elementos positivos de esta metodología , como considerarse parte activa del aprendizaje y satisfacción con los conocimientos, habilidades y destrezas conseguidas; pero también señalan elementos que deben ser mejorados, como por ejemplo la sobrecarga de trabajo. Se han encontrado diferencias significativas en función del tiempo, pero en función de la variable sexo. Se concluye con unas sugerencias para mejorar la calidad docente.

Estudio de las respuestas socioeducativas ofrecidas a los inmigrantes en la Región de Murcia, Study of social and educational responses offered to immigrants in the Region of Murcia

This paper presents a research study conducted for over four years in the Region of Murcia, carried out by the Faculty of Education and sponsored by the Spanish State Administration. By means of participant observation, a questionnaire and semistructured interviews, it studied the kind of responses given by professionals (mainly social workers and educators) to the needs of immigrants, identifying the various resources and services our Administration offers immigrants and bearing in mind the characteristics, types, levels and methods in the different actions carried out by these professionals. It has been shown that responses remain largely welfare-related, neglecting the possibilities of educational work in the actions of both social workers and social educators., En el presente artículo se presenta una investigación realizada durante cuatro años en la Región de Murcia, desde la facultad de Educación, auspiciada por la Administración Estatal. En ella se estudió, mediante observación participante, cuestionario y entrevistas semiestructuradas, el tipo de respuestas que estaban dando los profesionales que trabajan con personas inmigrantes, fundamentalmente trabajadores sociales y educadores sociales, a las diversas necesidades de éstos, identificando los diferentes recursos y servicios que la Administración pone al servicio de los inmigrantes y valorado las características, los tipos, los diferen­tes niveles y la metodología de las diversas actuaciones de esos profesionales. Se ha podido constatar que las respuestas siguen siendo fundamentalmente asistenciales, ignorando las posibilidades del trabajo educativo, y ello tanto en las acciones de trabajadores sociales como de educadores sociales.

Expectativas de autoeficacia e inquietudes docentes de los aspirantes a maestros de Educación Física en el tratamiento del alumnado con sobrepeso, Self-efficacy and concerns of the applicants to teachers of Physical Education in the treatment of the pupil with overweight

This paper focuses on finding any possible link between self-efficacy expectations and teaching interests in a sample of trainee physical education teachers, regarding the obese pupil. The paper designed two questionnaire aiming at the assessment of self-efficacy expectations on teaching overweight students (Prieto, 2007) and the various teaching concerns found in teaching (Mcbride, 1993). A sample of 436 physical education teachers from eight universities in Andalusia was researched. The results show that the informants with higher self-efficacy expectations for teaching overweight students declared themselves more concerned about meeting their students' educative, social and emotional needs, carrying out the tasks proper to their jobs and meeting the teaching standards., El propósito este estudio se centró en conocer la posible relación entre las expectativas de autoeficacia e inquietudes docentes, en los aspirantes a maestros de la especialidad de educación física, respecto al alumnado obeso. Para ello, se adaptaron dos cuestionarios, uno destinados a evaluar las expectativas de autoeficacia relativas al tratamiento educativo del alumnado obeso (Prieto, 2007), y otro para valorar los diferentes tipos de inquietudes que caracterizan al ejercicio profesional docente (TCQ-PE), (McBride, 1993). Participaron en el estudio 436 estudiantes de magisterio procedentes de ocho universidades andaluzas. Los resultados obtenidos revelaron que los aspirantes considerados más autoeficaces para abordar el tratamiento educativo del alumnado obeso, afirmaron sentirse más preocupados respecto a la posibilidad de satisfacer las necesidades académicas, sociales y emocionales del alumnado obeso, ocuparse de las tareas propias que demanda la profesión, y ajustarse al perfil docente requerido.

Relación entre los programas universitarios para mayores, la satisfacción durante la jubilación y la calidad de vida, Relationship between university programmes for senior citizens, satisfaction levels during retirement and quality of life

The objective of this paper is to ascertain the importance of life learning as an element of for achieving a successful ageing using the Elders's Living Conditions Survey (2006) We estimate a bivariate probit model between satisfaction during retirement and participation in third age university programs and a bivariate ordered probit between the Quality of Life Scale previously defined and participation. Conditioned on participating, we observe an increase in the probability of satisfaction and the probability of enjoying good (very good) quality of life. For those who live alone, these probabilities increase when they participate, but decrease otherwise. Although women make the majority of participants, men experiment a higher increase in satisfaction and in quality of life when they participate., El objetivo del trabajo es estudiar cuáles son los determinantes de la participación en Pro-gramas Universitarios para Mayores (PUM) y contrastar si existe una relación significativa la satisfacción durante la jubilación y la calidad de vida. Utilizando la Encuesta de Condiciones de Vida de los Mayores (2006) se estima un modelo probit bivariante para la satisfacción en la jubilación y la participación en PUM, y un probit bivariante ordenado para la Escala de Calidad de Vida previamente construida y la participación en dichos programas. Condicionado a participar, se constata un aumento en la probabilidad de satisfacción y en el disfrute de una buena (muy buena) calidad de vida. Para los individuos que viven solos, dichas probabilidades aumentan cuando participan, pero disminuyen en caso contrario. Aunque la mayoría de participantes son mujeres, los hombres experimentan incrementos superiores en su satisfacción y calidad de vida cuando participan.
