BUSCADOR RECOLECTA

This is the first published database of a Bathynellacea Chappuis, 1915 collection of slices and DNA extracts. It includes all data of bathynellids (Crustacea: Syncarida) collected in the last 48 years on the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands. It also includes specimens studied across much of Europe, as well as some specimens obtained from samples of North America, Asia, Africa and Australia. The samples come from groundwater (caves, springs, wells and hyporrheic habitat associated rivers) obtained from both, sampling campaigns and occasional sampling efforts. The data set includes 3399 records (2657 slices and 742 DNA extracts) corresponding to three families (Parabathynellidae, Leptobathynellidae and Bathynellidae) of the order Bathynellacea; 52 genera and 92 species formally described, plus around 30 additional taxa in study and, thus, still unpublished. This represents more than half of all the genera known worldwide and almost a third of the species currently known in the world. This dataset contains a specially relevant collection that includes holotypes and type series of 43 new species of Bathynellacea. This dataset has been created and reviewed by a specialist in the group (Ana I. Camacho), and each specimen, regardless of its shape, includes taxonomic, geographical and authorship information.

These data proceed from BANDASCA, a database which compiles all the available information from literature, museum and private collections, doctoral thesis, as well as other unpublished data available for the entire Iberian Peninsula (see structure in Lobo and Martín-Piera 1991). At present, it contains the information of 96 981 individuals of the 53 Iberian Scarabaeinae species. A database-record was defined as a pool of specimens of a single species with identical database field values (locality, UTM coordinates, altitude, date of capture (day/month/year), type of habitat and food resource; among others) regardless of the number of specimens; so any difference in any database field value gave rise to a new database-record. El conjunto de la colección de MNCN-Nemata es la síntesis de miles de muestras de suelo representando los más importantes ecosistemas naturales, así como los principales sistemas agrarios y abarca un periodo aproximado de 55 años. Su origen lo inició el Prof. Jiménez Millán y su equipo en el extinto Instituto Español de Entomología a principios de los años 50 del pasado siglo, pero adquirió un impulso fundamental con el trabajo de los Drs. Antonio Bello y María Arias así como sus colaboradores en el actualmente llamado Centro de Ciencias Medioambientales del CSIC. The collection of insects of the MNCN (Madrid, Spain) constitutes the most valuable scientific section in this Museum. It holds about 4,000,000 specimens from almost all over the world, being its main strength the Iberian Peninsula, Canary Islands, Morocco and Equatorial Guinea. It keeps some 25,000 type specimens, representing some 6,100 taxa. The Collection of Ichthyology of the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (Spain) is the largest of the vertebrate collections in this Museum. It holds more than 300.000 specimens, many of them belonging to Spanish fauna. In the GBIF there are 200,385 individuals with taxonomic information, 171,028 individuals with information about the Country of the data sample and 168,463 individual with information about the specific locality of the data sample. The data base of the collection is under review and therefore, we expect to add more information in the future.
