NEURAL BASES OF SECTOR BIAS IN PERCEPTIONS OF PUBLIC VS. PRIVATE-SECTOR SERVICE PERFORMANCE

- Zafra-Gómez, José-Luis
- De la Higuera Molina, Emilio José
Governments, political parties and public institutions regularly design and launch communication campaigns emphasising their successes, fostering participation in democratic acts, promoting the use of public services and seeking to boost electoral support. Accordingly, researchers in the fields of politics and public administration have long sought to enhance our understanding of how individuals perceive the performance of services offered by the private and public sectors. In this respect, conflicting findings have been reported: some studies affirm there is an anti-public sector bias, others detect a preference towards public-sector providers, and some have found no evidence of a sector bias, pro or anti. We believe it crucially important to understand the mechanisms underlying sector bias, if it exists. To address the current research gap in this area, we make use of theories and tools drawn from neuropolitics (namely, functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, fMRI) to elucidate the neurobiological foundations of perceptions regarding the performance of public-sector service providers. The neural findings obtained reveal that brain networks associated with reward and positive values provide a neurobiological explanation for pro-public sector bias, while neural mechanisms linked to aversion, risk, ambiguity and motivated reasoning are associated with an anti-public sector bias. The implications of these findings should be considered by policymakers; for example, to promote acceptance of public-sector service provision, people must be clearly informed about the goals achieved and other positive aspects.

DISPOSITIVOS REPROGRAMABLES DE DOBLE DOPADO PARA APLICACIONES ELECTRÓNICAS DE BAJA POTENCIA Y APLICACIONES IOT AVANZADAS
R2D2
- Navarro Moral, Carlos

The assembly of mineral and its structural organization is controlled by its organic matrix. In a recent study [1], we have used quantitative proteomic, bioinformatic and functional analyses to explore the distribution of 216 eggshell matrix proteins at four key stages of shell mineralization defined as: (1) widespread deposition of amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC), (2) ACC transformation into crystalline calcite aggregates, (3) formation of larger calcite crystal units and (4) rapid growth of calcite as columnar structure with preferential crystal orientation. The current article detailed the quantitative analysis performed at the four stages of shell mineralization to determine the proteins which are the most abundant. Additionally, we reported the enriched GO terms and described the presence of 35 antimicrobial proteins equally distributed at all stages to keep the egg free of bacteria and of 81 proteins, the function of which could not be ascribed., French National Research Agency (ANR)

The aim of this document is to describe how to reproduce the results derived in the article “Exploring and correcting the bias in the estimation of the Gini measure of income inequality”, published in the journal Sociological Methods & Research. First (Section 2), we describe (load) the various R packages required for the computation of the estimators described in this article. In Section 3, we compute the parameters of the probabilistic distributions considered in simulation studies. Section 4 gives examples on how samples can be selected for the various scenarios. For both infinite and finite populations, codes for computing the various estimators of the Gini index are provided in Section 5. Box plots to investigate the effect of the skewness on the bias of the estimation of the Gini index can be seen in Section 6. For the various estimators defined in this document, Section 7 provides codes for computing empirical measures related to such estimators. In particular, functions inf.empirical.measures and fin.empirical.measures gives the: (i) Relative Bias (RB); (ii) Relative Root Mean Square Error (RRMSE); (iii) Bias Ratio (BR); (iv) Expected value based on estimates of the Gini index and; (v) Expected value based on estimates of the coefficient of skewness. Some examples are included, and they indicate how to carry out simulation studies. Finally, various estimators of the Gini index are computed using the data set ES-SILC, with size n=26. The various real data sets can be loaded using the file Datasets.RData., The aim of this document is to describe how to reproduce the results derived in the article “Exploring and correcting the bias in the estimation of the Gini measure of income inequality”, published in the journal Sociological Methods & Research.
