BREAKAGE FUNCTION DETERMINATION FOR HPGR

  • Anticoi Sudzuki, Hernán Francisco|||0000-0003-4316-5203
De data base shows the results of a new methodology to determine the breakage distribution function parameters to be used in High pressure grinding rolls modelling. The piston die test tries to simulate a high pressure enviroment, thus the resulted particle size distribution can be normalized to describe a breakage mechanism. Furthermore, one example of how to obtain the breakage function parameters is presented., The modelling of high pressure grinding rolls is described by the population balance model, a mass balance which includes several functions that are related to the mineral characteristics, material kinetics and operative conditions of the device. The breakage distribution function is one of these functions and refers to the way in which the daughter particles are generated by the process of comminution. The piston-die press is presented as a methodology to determine the breakage distribution function of two different materials, from the mechanical response point of view: altered granite and a cal-silicate material. The aim is to determine the relation between the operative conditions and the mineral characteristics in order to explain and predict the breakage function parameters. The materials were characterised using XRD and single compression strength tests. The altered granite is a brittle material, which generates more fines under single compression conditions compared to bed compression conditions, mainly due to the mineral composition and the response of the material to the breakage action. The cal-silicate material shows a normal trend in its breakage behaviour. As is expected, the mineralogical characterisation is a useful tool to predict the values of the parameters of the breakage distribution function.

DATA FROM "DISCOVERING RELATED SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE BEYOND SEMANTIC SIMILARITY: A NEW CO-CITATION APPROACH"

  • Rodríguez Prieto, Óscar|||0000-0003-2168-9962
  • Araujo Serna, M. Lourdes
  • Martínez Romo, Juan
Data from the article "O. Rodriguez-Prieto, L. Araujo, J. Martinez-Romo. Discovering related scientific literature beyond semantic similarity: a new co-citation approach. Scientometrics(120) issue 1, pp. 105-127, 2019. https://doi.org/10.1007/s11192-019-03125-9", We propose a new approach to recommend scientifc literature, a domain in which the efcient organization and search of information is crucial. The proposed system relies on the hypothesis that two scientifc articles are semantically related if they are co-cited more frequently than they would be by pure chance. This relationship can be quantifed by the probability of co-citation, obtained from a null model that statistically defnes what we consider pure chance. Looking for article pairs that minimize this probability, the system is able to recommend a ranking of articles in response to a given article. This system is included in the co-occurrence paradigm of the feld. More specifcally, it is based on co-cites so it can produce more focused on relatedness than on similarity. Evaluation has been performed on the ACL Anthology collection and on the DBLP dataset, and a new corpus has been compiled to evaluate the capacity of the proposal to fnd relationships beyond similarity. Results show that the system is able to provide, not only articles similar to the submitted one, but also articles presenting other kind of relations, thus providing diversity, i.e. connections to new topics., The work of Oscar Rodriguez-Prieto was supported by the Spanish Department of Science, Innovation and Universities under an FPU grant (FPU15/05261).

DATA FROM "RULE-BASED PROGRAM SPECIALIZATION TO OPTIMIZE GRADUALLY TYPED CODE"

Data from the article "F. Ortin, M. Garcia, S. McSweeney. Rule-based program specialization to optimize gradually typed code. Knowledge-Based Systems (179), pp. 145-173, 2019. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.knosys.2019.05.013", Both static and dynamic typing provide different benefits to the programmer. Statically typed languages support earlier type error detection and more opportunities for compiler optimizations. Dynamically typed languages facilitate the development of runtime adaptable applications and rapid prototyping. Since both approaches provide benefits, gradually typed languages support both typing approaches in the very same programming language. Gradual typing has been an active research field in the last years, turning out to be a strong influence on commercial languages. However, one important drawback of gradual typing is the runtime performance cost of the additional type checks performed at runtime. In this article, we propose a rule-based program specialization mechanism to provide significant performance optimizations of gradually typed code. Our system gathers dynamic type information of the application by simulating its execution. That type information is used to optimize the generated code, reducing the number of type checks performed at runtime. Moreover, program specialization allows the early detection of compile-time type errors, providing static type safety. To ensure the correctness of the proposed approach, we prove its soundness and efficiency properties. The specialization system has been implemented as part of a full-fledged programming language, measuring the runtime performance gain. The generated code performs significantly better than the state-of-theart techniques to optimize dynamically typed code. Unlike the existing approaches, our system does not consume additional memory resources at runtime, because program specialization is performed statically. Program specialization involves an average compilation time increase from 2% to 11.75%., This work has been partially funded by the Spanish Department of Science, Innovation and Universities: project RTI2018-099235-B-I00.
