APATITE FISSION TRACK AND ZIRCON (U-TH)/HE DATASET IN THE EASTERN BASQUE-CANTABRIAN ZONE - WESTERN PYRENEES

Apatite fission track and zircon (U-Th)/He, Low-temperature thermochronology studies have increased our knowledge of the orogenic processes along the Pyrenean-Cantabrian mountain belt by placing time constraints on the exhumation history of its rocks. However, a significant gap of data existed between the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains, hampering a comprehensive view of the tectonothermal evolution along the belt. Thus, we present a new apatite fission-track (AFT) and zircon (U-Th)/He (ZHe) dataset for the eastern Basque-Cantabrian zone and western Pyrenees. AFT central ages cluster in the Eocene-Oligocene. According to their ZHe age-eU correlations, samples can be separated into two groups: group 1 depicts clustered ZHe ages-eU concentrations (Cinco Villas Massif) and group 2 depicts dispersed ZHe ages-eU concentration (Alduides Massif and a Paleozoic rock pinned along the Leiza thrust sheet). A sample from the Oroz-Betelu Massif shows an intermediate behavior. Our results agree with previous data in the Pyrenean-Cantabrian mountain belt, supporting a Cenozoic cooling of the hinterlands of this part of the belt., Funding sources: University of Oviedo-Banco Santander (grant number UNOV-10-BECDOC-S, Programa de Promoción de la Investigación Universidad de Oviedo-Banco Santander); Gobierno del Principado de Asturias Fundación para el Fomento en Asturias de la Investigación Científica Aplicada y la Tecnología (FICYT), grant number BP11-004, Beca predoctoral Severo Ochoa; Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (AP2010-3637, Programa de Formación del Profesorado Universitario, FPU); Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (grant number CSD2006-00041, Consolider-Ingenio); European Science Foundation; Consejería de Cultura y Deporte Gobierno del Principado de Asturias; French National Centre of Scientific Research; The Research Council of Norway; Statoil-Hydro; Netherlands Research Center for Integrated Solid Earth Science (grant number SV-PA-10-03-IP2-PYRTEC, PYRTEC: Spatial and temporal coupling between tectonics and surface processes during lithosphere inversion of the Pyrenean-Cantabrian mountain belt); Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (grant number CGL2013-48601-C2-2-R, Programa Estatal de I+D Programa de Investigación, desarrollo e innovación orientada a los retos de la sociedad)., Peer reviewed

Understanding the mode of action of the different pollutants in human and wildlife health is a key step in environmental risk assessment. The aim of this study was to determine signatures that could link morphological phenotypes to the toxicity mechanisms of four Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs): bisphenol A (BPA), perfluorooctanesulfonate potassium salt (PFOS), tributyltin chloride (TBT), and 17-ß-estradiol (E2). Zebrafish (Danio rerio) eleutheroembryos were exposed from 2 to 5 dpf to a wide range of BPA, PFOS, TBT and E2 concentrations. At the end of the exposures several morphometric features were assessed. Common and non-specific effects on larvae pigmentation or swim bladder area were observed after exposures to all compounds. BPA specifically induced yolk sac malabsorption syndrome and altered craniofacial parameters, whereas PFOS had specific effects on the notochord formation presenting higher rates of scoliosis and kyphosis. The main effect of E2 was an increase in the body length of the exposed eleutheroembryos. In the case of TBT, main alterations on the morphological traits were related to developmental delays. When integrating all morphometrical parameters, BPA showed the highest rates of malformations in terms of equilethality, followed by PFOS and, distantly, by TBT and E2. In the case of BPA and PFOS, we were able to relate our results with effects on the transcriptome and metabolome, previously reported. We propose that methodized morphometric analyses in zebrafish embryo model can be used as an inexpensive and easy screening tool to predict modes of action of a wide-range number of contaminants., This work was supported by a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (ref. • Payo-Payo, Ana
  • Igual, José Manuel
  • Rotger, Andreu
  • Viñas Torres, Mariana
  • Picorelli, Virginia
Data are organized in three independent files. (1) Breeding_parameters_Espartar_2014_2018.csv records the reproductive parameters (hatching success (HS), fledgling success (FS) and breeding success (BS)) of all accessible nests of storm petrels at s’Espartar islet (Ibiza, Balearic Islands) during breeding seasons 2014 to 2018. First columns correspond to year (2014 to 2018), colony, nest number and zone of the study nests. Zone was coded as “C” = Chambers and “E” = Entrance. Last three columns (F, G and H) gather reproductive parameters HS, FS and BS being 0 if fails and 1 if successful. (2) Data_nestlings_BC_ticks_Espartar_2018.csv contains the state, the number of ticks attached to nestlings, their maximum number, biometric measurements and the estimated age of nestlings of storm petrels at s’Espartar (Ibiza, Balearic Islands) during breeding season in 2018. This file may contain more than one record (line) per individual because some nestlings were inspected multiple times. First column indicates the zone of the nest (“C” = Chambers and “E” = Entrance), next column corresponds to the nest number (= nestling number) followed by state and the state of the next inspection (state_t+1) of the nestling; these columns indicate if nestling is alive or dead. Columns F and G correspond to the number of ticks in each inspection and the maximum number of ticks found among all inspections respectively; last columns are the measurements of the wing length (mm), tarsus (mm), body mass (g) and estimated age of each nestling inspection. (3) Data_Adults_Espartar2018.csv contains the information about breeding adults of storm petrels from the entrance and chambers of the s’Espartar cave (Ibiza, Balearic Islands) during the breeding season in 2018. This file contains one line per individual being the first column the date of inspection, followed by the zone of the nest, the number of nest, and the ring code of the each individual; and the last three columns (E, F, G) correspond to the biometric measurements of tarsus, wing length and body mass (weight). Missing values in all datasets were coded as “NA”., Dataset (1) was used to analyze reproductive parameters of Storm petrels at S’Espartar islet (Ibiza, Balearic Islands) from 2014 to 2018. Dataset (2) was used to study the number of ticks (tick load) attached on nestlings and how affect them to their body condition depending on the zone where they are found during the breeding season in 2018. Dataset (3) was used to study if exists differences between adults of the different zones of the study area during the breeding season in 2018., This project was partially funded by the Govern Balear (Acciones Especiales, AAEE031/2017) and the Spanish Ministry of innovation and Universities (RESET, ref: CGL2017-85210-P)., No

BURROWING OWL DATA SETS

  • Luna, Álvaro
  • Palma Gómez, Antonio
  • Sanz-Aguilar, Ana
  • Tella, José Luis
  • Carrete, Martina
Data are organized in two independent files: (1) “Burrowing_Owl_Data.xlsx” records all the information of burrowing owls ringed during a monitoring program at Bahia Blanca (Argentina) during the breeding seasons 2005/2006 - 2017/2018. Each line corresponds to one individual. The dataset includes the year of birth and the year of first resight, the natal dispersal distance, the sex, the flight initiation distance (FID) and the breeding productivity both in the first breeding attempt and during the entire life for each individual. We also provide information about the habitat type, the conspecific density and the conspecific productivity both for their natal area and for their first breeding territory.-- (2) “dispnatalsurvival.inp” records the recaptures of each marked burrowing owls during a continuous monitoring program, grouped by sex and habitat. Each line corresponds to one individual. The first 11 columns represent the history of life of the individuals by years (with 0 = no resight and 1= resight). The following 4 columns are the groups (urban males, urban females, rural males, rural females), and the last column is the natal dispersal distance (log transformed) covered by each burrowing owl., Dataset (1) was used to analyze how different individual and social traits influence the natal dispersal distances of burrowing owls and how the variation in the dispersal distances can influence breeding productivity. Dataset (2) was used to study how dispersal distances can influence survival in male and females burrowing owls living in urban and rural habitats., The project was funded by Projects CGL2012-31888 and CGL2015-71378-P from MINECO (Spain) and Fundación Repsol. BASE DE DATOS DE CABAÑA REMOLINO

CABAÑA REMOLINO DATABASE

  • Estévez Escalera, Jordi
  • Vila-Mitjà, Assumpció
The Ciexaus yamana ceremony that toke place in 1920 in Estancia Remolino (northern Coast of the Beagle Channel, Argentina) was described by the ethnographer Martin Gusinde. The site was excavated archaeologically during 2001 to obtain an image of an actual and historially documented ceremonial archaeological layer. The final aim was to evaluate the significant variables that would potentially allow to identify an ceremonial place. The conclusion was that a ceremonial place can be identify not just by the kind of items but by the treatment given to those materials and to the place. These important ceremonies did not happen at an especifical place. The effemeral use of the places difficults to separate and to identify the occupied surface. The excavation recovered some features of the ceremonial hut, materials of previous occupations as well as materials from later moments. All those materials were recovered by square meters and by the strata identified. The database is contained in an Excel file. This file has five sheets.
