BESDUI: A BENCHMARK FOR END-USER STRUCTURED DATA USER INTERFACES

  • Garcia, Roberto
  • Gil, Rosa
  • Gimeno, Juan Manuel
  • Bakke, Eirik
  • Karger, David R.
Benchmark for End-User Structured Data User Interfaces (BESDUI) based on the Berlin SPARQL Benchmark (BSBM) but intended for benchmarking the user experience while exploring a structured dataset, not the performance of the query engine. BSBM is just used to provide the data to be explored. This is a cheap User Interface benchmark as it does not involve users but experts, who measure how many interaction steps are required to complete each of the benchmark tasks, if possible. This also facilitates comparing different tools without the bias that different end-user profiles might introduce. The way to measure this interaction steps and convert them to an estimate of the required time to complete a task is based on the Keystroke-Level Model (KLM)

The global COVID-19 spread has forced countries to implement non-pharmacological interventions (NPI) to preserve health systems. Spain is one of the most severely impacted countries, both clinically and economically. In an effort to support policy decision-making, Candel et al.(2021) [https://dx.doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.3745801] have developed a modified Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Removed (SEIR) epidemiological model to simulate the pandemic evolution. Its output was used to populate an economic model to quantify healthcare costs and GDP variation, through a regression model which correlates NPI and GDP change from 42 countries. The dataset contains information on the main variables used in order to specify and estimate this predictive model.

META-ANALYSIS ON THE EFFECTS OF HIGH-INTENSITY TRAINING AND A HIGH-PROTEIN DIET ON BODY COMPOSITION, MUSCLE METABOLISM AND MUSCLE STRENGTH IN OVERWEIGHT ADULTS

  • Gervilla Barbero, Sandra
  • Beltran-Garrido, José Vicente
  • Farran-Codina, Andreu
The increase in high-intensity training (HIT) guidelines and the use of hyperproteic diets (HPDs) as a treatment of excess weight in adults have generated interest in their effects on body composition, metabolic profile and muscular strength. So, the objective of this study was to determine the effects of HIT together with an HPD on the body composition, muscle metabolism and muscle strength of overweight or obese subjects. According to that, a standardized search of randomized controlled trials was carried out considering: 1) application of a HIT protocol, 2) compliance with an HPD and 3) their combined application in non-active overweight or obese subjects. Screening was then carried out by two independent researchers, following the criteria in the Cochrane handbook for systematic reviews of interventions. Data was extracted from the 8 studies selected which were systematically reviewed, and subsequent meta-analysis was performed. A statistically significant decrease in body fat (6 studies which included n=294 subjects; MD -0.56 kg; 95% CI -0.90 to -0.22 kg; p=0.001; I2 =18%; Χ2=6.08; p=0.30) and an increase in lean body mass (7 studies which included n=370 subjects; MD 0.37 kg; 95% CI 0.02 to 0.72 kg; p=0.04; I2 =55%; Χ2=13.42; p=0.04) were detected. Sensitivity analysis confirmed the significance of these results. No statistically significant changes were observed in any of the other variables studied. Despite the statistically significant decrease in body fat and increase in lean body mass, not statistically or clinically significant improvements were observed in the other variables, not even in those where favorable changes had been reported in previous studies. For obtaining more conclusive results in future meta-analysis, it will be necessary to carry out new studies with less variable and better-defined HIT and HPD protocols in order to increase comparability. These studies should control subjects’ diet conveniently, especially protein and energy intake.

This dataset contains the raw data of the experiments described in the paper "Transplanting rejuvenated blood stem cells extends lifespan of aged immunocompromised mice" by Montserrat-Vazquez, Noelle, Matteini et al., as well as the code used to analyse the single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data, the raw count matrices and all the output obtained from running the code. scRNA-seq was applied on sorted Lin- Sca1+ cKit+ (LSK) cells from the bone marrow of young, aged and aged CASIN-treated C57Bl6 mice and the raw FASTQ files can be found under the GEO accession number GSE197070. The code is in an easily reproducible format, as Rmarkdown and jupyter notebooks that contain comments that describe all the steps in the analysis. To start reproducing it, download all the files, open the .Rproj file in an Rstudio session and start following the instructions in the file "LSK_scRNAseq_data_analysis.Rmd".
