SORTING INDEX OF FORAGE PARTICLE SIZE OF CALVES WITH DIFFERENT FEEDS BEFORE AND AFTER WEANING.
- Antúnez-Tort, Germán
- Terre, Marta
Forty-five Holstein calves (44 ± 5.7 kg of BW and 3 ± 1.5 d of age) fed with a common pellet concentrate fed and one of following forage feeding strategies: barley straw before and after weaning (S-S), barley straw before and alfalfa hay after weaning (S-A), or alfalfa hay before and after weaning (A-A). To determine sorting activity, dry matter intake of each forage fraction was calculated as the difference between the amount of each forage fraction offered and the amount refused (actual intake). Sorting was calculated as the actual intake of each fraction expressed as a proportion of the theoretically predicted intake of that fraction. Values equal to 1 indicate no sorting, those <1 indicate selective refusals (sorting against), and those >1 indicate preferential consumption (sorting for). Both before and after weaning, calves sorted for the fraction containing long-size forage particles without differences among treatments and sorted against the short-size forage fraction.

CAROLINGIAN POTTERY FROM THE NORTHEASTERN CATALAN COUNTIES
- Buxeda i Garrigós, Jaume
- Valls Llorens, Marta
- Madrid i Fernández, Marisol
- Mentesana, Roberta Bruna
The sixty ceramic individuals studied in this project were recovered in Empúries, Besalú, and Rosselló counties (Catalonia). These ceramics dated to the 10th—11th centuries AD belong to a historical period related to the creation and consolidation of the Catalan Counties. This period is poorly studied from an archaeological point of view, so there is little information about ceramic production and distribution, which this research aims to change by identifying the provenance and manufacturing techniques. Also, to reveal if there existed a shared technical tradition on both sides of the Albera range. For this purpose, the ceramic sherds have been chemically and mineralogically characterised. Their microstructure and sintering state have been determined, and petrographic analyses have been performed too. This archaeometric study has also considered both historical and archaeological data. Analyses of the ceramics have comprised, among others, X-ray fluorescence (WD-XRF) and X-ray diffraction (PXRD). Results confirm distribution patterns and the evidence of similar technical traditions in different Counties. Finally, the contrast with the database enables us to relate some of the individuals analysed in this study to some others from the area of the County of Empúries dating from the Visigoth period (7th—8th centuries) according to their exceptionally high concentrations of Na2O. The data for the latter 5 Visigoth ceramics are also included.

INCA PROVINCIAL POTTERY OF CENTRAL WESTERN ARGENTINA (CWA)
- Buxeda i Garrigós, Jaume
- Ots, María José
- Madrid i Fernández, Marisol
- Cahiza, Pablo Andrés
The sample studied includes 85 Inca provincial ceramic individuals, 2 experimental ceramics prepared from clays collected at Ranchillos (MDZ140) and RT285 (MDZ149), and 1 firing structure unearthed at RT285 (MDZ150). The experimental ceramics and the firing structure were included to get some information about available clays in the area. Twenty-two out of 85 are ceramics unearthed at 12 sites from the Central Western Argentina (CWA), from three different areas: Uco Valley (n = 22), Uspallata Valley (n = 35, plus the MDZ140 experimental ceramic), and the foothills south of San Juan province (n = 28, plus the MDZ149 experimental ceramic and the MDZ150 firing structure). The sample includes the possible production centres of Tambillos, in Uspallata Valley, and RT285, in the foothills south of San Juan province, their possible distribution channels, and examples of all types of Inca provincial pottery (Viluco fine or ceremonial vessels –urpu, ollas and pucos–, and utilitarian storage vessels). This archaeometric study have comprised, besides scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX), X-ray fluorescence (WD-XRF) and X-ray diffraction (PXRD).

DIFFERENT GENE SETS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH AZACITIDINE RESPONSE IN VITRO AND MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROME PATIENTS
- Buschbeck, Marcus
Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a heterogeneous group of hematopoietic disorders and characterized by dysplasia, ineffective hematopoiesis and predisposition to secondary acute myeloid leukemia (sAML). Azacitidine (AZA) is the standard care for high-risk MDS patients not eligible for allogenic bone marrow transplantation. However, only half of the patients respond and all patients eventually relapse. Response predicting biomarkers and combinatorial drugs targets enhancing response and its duration are needed. Here, we have taken a dual approach. First, we have evaluated genes encoding chromatin regulators for their capacity to modulate AZA response. We were able to validate several genes, whose genetic inhibition affected the cellular AZA response, including four genes encoding components of ISWI chromatin remodelling complex pointing towards a specific function and co-vulnerability. Second, we have used a classical cohort analysis approach measuring the association of expression of a gene panel in bone marrow samples collected at diagnosis of 36 MDS patients. The gene panel included the identified AZA modulators, genes known to be involved in AZA metabolism and previously identified candidate modulators. In addition to confirming a number of previously made observations, we were able to identify several new associations, such as SMARCA5 as positive indicator for AZA response, or NSUN3 that correlated with increased overall survival. Taken together we have identified a number of genes associated with AZA response in vitro and in patients. These groups of genes are largely non-overlapping suggesting that different gene sets need to be exploited for the development of combinatorial drug targets and response-predicting biomarkers.

DATASET FOR “SILVER-INDUCED Γ→Ε MARTENSITIC TRANSFORMATION IN FEMN ALLOYS: AN EXPERIMENTAL AND COMPUTATIONAL STUDY”
- Bartkowska, Aleksandra
- Lekka, Christina E.
- Alberta, Ludovico Andrea
- Spasojevic, Irena
- Pellicer Vilà, Eva Maria

This dataset contains the information on our recent body of work on Ag-induced transformation of FeMn alloys and all the relevant data files. In this work, attempt to explain the austenite-martensite phase transformation occurring in FeMn alloys upon additions of Ag. In the study, a combined experimental and theoretical approach are applied to reveal the mechanism behind the phase transformation. While equiatomic FeMn and FeMn-1Ag alloys possess a fully austenitic structure, a change in the crystallographic structure is observed upon addition of 3 and 5 wt% of Ag, where a mixture of γ austenite and ε martensite phases is observed. Compression tests reveal that such structural transition causes an increase of the yield stress. The evolution of microstructure with the Ag content can be understood from theoretical calculations which show that Ag atoms prefer the intrinsic stacking fault (ISF) sites, revealing lower energy for the ε atomic plane sequence. This causes local depletion of the electronic charge,
therefore weakening the interatomic bonds at the ISF plane and facilitating the phase transition. In addition, the
total energy difference between the γ and ε phases decreases upon Ag addition. This enables the coexistence of both phases in the sample with 5 wt% Ag. Both experimental and theoretical data agree that the magnetization value gradually increases upon Ag addition. This is due to the local stress that is introduced by Ag atoms, which
expand the Ag-Fe and Ag-Mn first neighbour interatomic bonds compared to FeMn. This stress results in electronic charge transfer that locally alters the Fe and Mn atomic magnetic moments.
