[EN]we consider approx. 20 species of a diploid–polyploid complex (Veronica subsect. Pentasepalae) of recent and rapid diversification represented in Europe and North Africa to study the frequency and distribution of cytotypes and their relationship to environmental variables. Methods: A total of 680 individuals (207 populations) were sampled. Ploidy levels were determined using flow cytometry. Ecological differentiation among cytotypes was tested using climatic and environmental variables related to temperature, precipitation, vegetation and biogeographical region, among others, and by performing univariate and multivariate (constrained principal coordinates analysis) analyses, Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad [projects CGL2009-07555 and CGL2012-32574]; the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación [PhD grants AP2008-03434 to B.R.A. and AP2010-2968 to N.L.G.]; and the University of Salamanca [PhD grant to N.P.G. co-financed by Banco Santander]., The dataset includes Supplementary Information, Table S1. Details of individuals of Veronica subsect. Pentasepalae included in this study

LATE MIOCENE GREENING OF THE PERUVIAN DESERT [DATASET]

  • Ochoa Lozano, Diana Paola
[EN]The question of whether tropical deserts expand or contract with global warming remains highly uncertain but has profound implications for the habitability of extensive low-latitude regions. We present the first paleobotanical study documenting the Peruvian Desert's response to the Late Miocene greenhouse climate, when radiative forcing was comparable to 21st century projections. Fossil leaves, wood, and pollen from the Pisco Formation lagerstätte indicate a diverse dry forest biome where an absolute desert is observed today. Rainfall at 8-6 Ma is estimated to have been three times higher than today, possibly due to a warmer Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean or to more frequent El Niño events. Our results suggest that the impacts of tropical climate dynamics on ecosystems of the Pacific South American coast may exceed those of increasing evaporation under greenhouse warming conditions., Marie Skłodowska-Curie ; CONCYTEC-PROCIENCIA ; Programa de incorporación de investigadores, Contiene: Data File So. EXTRACAPSULAR FRACTURES [DATASET]

  • Hernández Pascual, Carlos
[EN]Background Benefits of post-operative partial weight bearing (PWB) in extracapsular hip fractures (ECFs) have not been proved. We have assessed influence of PWB on long-term survival and the final mobility achieved, dependence and mortality-related factors. Methods Retrospective cohort study of osteoporotic ECFs in ≥ 65-year-old patients who underwent surgery with trochanteric Gamma3 nails in 2014 (n=218), followed in the long term (consolidation or stabilisation). According to Baumgaertner-Fogagnolo classification (138 good, 71 acceptable and 9 poor) a postoperative protocol was applied. 116 cases bore weight before discharge (Immediate Partial Weight Bearing, IPWB=116; Not-IPWB=102), and 118 did it after a month (Early PWB, EPWB=118; Not-EPWB=100). Variables were collected from medical records and complementary studies. We used FMS (Fracture Mobility Score) and the National Mortality Database from the Spanish Ministry of Health at >5 years. EPWB and Not-EPWB were comparable, except for hospital stay and dependence. We used the Cox method for mortality. <0.05 P-values were significant. Results Survival improved in IPWB earlier than in EPWB, although there was no statistical significance. The final FMS was significantly favourable only in EPWB. Not-EPWB showed greater dependence. Age (per year of increment), moderate Charlson comorbidity index (not age-modified) and greater immediate postoperative anaemia rates were independent factors for mortality, but no radiological factors. Conclusions Postoperative PWB in ECF may increase mid-term and long-term survival rates, but considerably delayed in EPWB. Only EPWB improved final mobility. Not-EPWB presented with greater dependence. Only clinical factors were independently related to mortality, but no radiological factors were.

EFFECT OF SENTIMENT AND LENGTH ON RATINGS [DATASET]

  • Hernández Maestro, Rosa María
[EN]Online ratings constitute an element of electronic word of mouth (eWOM) that tourists consider when making their hotel booking decisions. Using a sample of negative online textual reviews of hotels, this study examines the impact of negative sentiment and review length on reviewers’ hotel ratings, as well as the functions of the COVID-19 pandemic and hotel quality as moderators of the relationships between negative sentiment and ratings and review length and ratings. The sample covers a two-year period (2019 and 2021) and comprises a total of 19,441 online textual reviews of Spanish people lodged in 121 4-star hotels located in the Canary Islands. Analyses were undertaken using NVivo 14 and SPSS 28. The results confirm that both negative sentiment and review length negatively affect hotel ratings. The COVID-19 pandemic increased the effect of sentiment on ratings, and hotel quality reduces the negative effects of both sentiment and review length., Ministry of Science and Innovation, Spain
