Central sections from the 3DR (left half) and 8 Å–thick slabs (right half) contoured at 1.2σ above the mean density to highlight the RNA density (as shown in Fig 1H–K, lower row). In central sections, brigther shading indicates higher density. The central transverse sections of the 3DRs highlight internal structural differences, particularly emphasizing the density attributable to the genomic RNA in full RHDV virions., Peer reviewed

Current vaccines for canine leishmaniosis (CanL) provide limited protection, underscoring the need for improved immunization strategies. Multi-epitope peptide vaccine delivered via nanoparticle systems represents a promising alternative but remains underexplored in canine clinical trials. Here, we report the results of a double-blind clinical trial (499/ECV) evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of HisDTC, a peptide vaccine targeting Leishmania infantum, encapsulated in poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) PLGA nanoparticles and adjuvanted with Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and TLR3 ligands. Forty healthy dogs were immunized with different vaccine formulations and monitored over 12 months. Immune responses were assessed by flow cytometry, ELISA, and in vitro macrophage infection assays, while safety was evaluated through clinical follow-up. Vaccination with HisDTC elicited a protective cellular response, including sustained IFN-γ production by CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, an IgG2a-skewed humoral response, and expansion of CD4+CD8α+ double-positive memory T cells. Notably, only HisDTC-vaccinated dogs exhibited a >80% reduction in in vitro macrophage infection, with protective effects persisting for up to 8 months post-immunization. Importantly, the formulation was well tolerated, with no adverse effects reported. These findings demonstrate that HisDTC delivered via PLGA nanoparticles induces durable, protective immunity against L. infantum in dogs and supports its further evaluation under natural exposure conditions., This research was supported by the grants PID2019-106487RB-I00 and PID2023-146579OB-I00 funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades/Agencia Estatal de Investigación/AEI/10.13039/501100011033., Peer reviewed

- A comma-separated values file (eamo-bbmo_env-diversity.csv) containing the contextual and environmental data from the EAMO–BBMO time-series. This file contains information such as date, geographic position, season, and a selection of biological, physico-chemical and climatic parameters, as well as the computed alpha-diversity metrics.
- A README file (eamo-bbmo_README.csv) explaining the meaning and units of each column name in the environmental dataset, This repository contains contextual and environmental data associated with samples from two coastal microbial time-series observatories located at contrasting latitudes: the Equatorial Atlantic Microbial Observatory (EAMO, 6°S) and the Blanes Bay Microbial Observatory (BBMO, 41°N, Mediterranean Sea). Sampling took place monthly from April 2013 to August 2016, with surface seawater measurements collected alongside eDNA metabarcoding samples, The EAMO data were generated with funds from FAPESP (process #2014/13139-3), CNPq (process 474759/2013-0), and the Brazilian Science Without Borders Program (BJT 013/2012; PVE 400313-2014-6). GLOBAL WARMING DRIVES PHENOLOGICAL SHIFTS AND HINDERS REPRODUCTIVE SUCCESS IN A TEMPERATE OCTOCORAL [DATASET]
- Viladrich, Nuria
Global warming is profoundly reshaping biodiversity. Until now, most research has focused on the impacts of extreme temperature events. However, in many ecosystems, it is becoming increasingly apparent that climate change is accelerating the onset of spring warming conditions. These advanced warming conditions can significantly disrupt critical biological processes such as reproduction, which is key for population persistence. While interest in phenological shifts has increased in recent years, their effects on marine foundation species, such as corals, remain poorly understood. Here, we combined observational and experimental approaches to assess the effects of advanced spring warming conditions driven by climate change on the reproduction of the Mediterranean octocoral Paramuricea clavata, a foundation species. Our findings reveal that a 2°C warming leads to a two-week advancement in P. clavata spawning, as evidenced by both field observations, and ex-situ experiments. These results underscore the role of advanced spring warming as a significant driver of phenological shifts in coastal marine ecosystems. Furthermore, we show that this phenological shift lead to a reduction in the number of spawning events, as well as decreases in larval biomass, survival rates, and settlement success. These findings highlight the urgent necessity to monitor phenological changes in foundational marine species, as such shifts can undermine the long-term viability of coral populations and contribute to substantial decline in associated biodiversity. Consequently, the increased vulnerability of species caused by phenological responses driven by seasonal changes may lead to more dramatic consequences of ocean warming than previously anticipated, This work contributes to the Institut de Ciències del Mar "Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence" accreditation CEX2024-001494-S funded by AEI 10.13039/501100011033 of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, Peer reviewed
