BUSINESS INTERNSHIPS FOR BACHELOR’S DEGREES AT BLENDED LEARNING UNIVERSITIES: A PILOT STUDY TO ASSESS THE TRANSITION FROM HYBRID STUDIES TO THE WORKPLACE

  • Navio Marco, Julio
  • Sánchez-Figueroa, Cristina
  • Galán, Arturo
Enhancing the employability of new graduates is a growing demand for universities. The subject “Curricular Practices” (a business internship) in the undergraduate qualifications of management, economics, and business offers students the chance to experience on-site learning in the labour environment, which does not fit in a priori with blended and online teaching but, in contrast, can offer them a structured transition from the virtual classroom to a personal presence, as required in the workplace. The main objective of this research is to assess the interest in the professional boundary-crossing of university students of hybrid studies. This pilot study with students from bachelor’s degrees in management (business administration) and economics at one of the largest blended universities in Europe shows that students take on an active role in the learning process and professionally socialise through internships. Student become more involved. They acquire reflexive learning and increase their participation in different activities. Furthermore, internships give them a richer, more diversified (online and offline) and efficient education. This type of subject offers more opportunities than an exclusively virtual learning environment, generating positive synergies that improve the regulated transition process from a hybrid academic university environment to the workplace. The dataset contains the responses of 27 students enrolled on the subject Curricular Practices for the academic year 2021/22.

HIGH STRAIN RATE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF POLYAMIDE 66 AND POLYAMIDE 66-GLASS FIBER REINFORCED

  • Gómez-del Río, Teresa
The effect of glass fiber-reinforcement polymer Polyamide 66 on the uniaxial compressive mechanical response was measured over a wide strain-rate range from quasi-static tests with strain rate of 5×10–3 s–1 to impact tests with strain rate of 2×103 s–1. Dynamic compressive load was applied using a split Hopkinson pressure bar, whereas an electromechanical testing machine was used to carry out quasi-static experiments in displacement control to determine strain-rate sensitivity. The results demonstrate that strain rate significantly influences yield stress, post-yield behavior, and ductility of the two polymers under study. The yield stress experimental data are consistent with thermally activated processes.

ASSESSMENT OF ATROPINE AND SCOPOLAMINE IN COMMERCIAL MULTIGRAIN CEREAL-BASED BABY PRODUCTS USING UHPLC-TQ-MS/MS AND SOLID PHASE EXTRACTION WITH MCM-41 MESOSTRUCTURED SILICA AS SORBENT

  • Sierra Alonso, Isabel
A sample preparation procedure for the analysis of tropane alkaloids (atropine and scopolamine) in multigrain cereal-based baby products (MGBP) has been optimized in this study. The protocol was based on a solid-liquid extraction, followed by purification by solid-phase extraction with MCM-41 functionalised with sulphonic acid groups as sorbent, before the analysis by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry. The method was successfully validated with limits of quantification of 0.005 and 0.05 μg/kg for atropine and scopolamine, respectively. The analysis of a quality control material (TAs in baby food multigrain) demonstrated the suitability for the purpose of the methodology. The analysis of twenty commercial MGBP (mixtures of 2 to 10 cereal flours, with honey, milk, fruit pulp or juices) purchased between 2016 and 2024, revealed the presence of atropine (between 0.07 and 1.0 μg/kg) and scopolamine (between 0.15 and 12 μg/kg) in all the MGBP analysed.

CLINICAL TRIALS FOR EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE IN SPANISH (CT-EBM-SP) CORPUS AND WORD-EMBEDDINGS

  • Campillos-Llanos, Leonardo

  • Valverde-Mateos, Ana
  • Moreno-Sandoval, Antonio

The NLPMedTerm project aims at providing the research community with resources for natural language processing (NLP) in the health domain for Spanish. A Work Package of the project is a corpus texts annotated with medical entities as a resource for experiments in Named Entity Recognition. The corpus is aimed at training machine-learning models incorporating state-of-the-art neural network approaches. Another Work Package are the word embeddings from the medical domain.

The Clinical Trials for Evidence-Based-Medicine in Spanish (CT-EBM-SP) corpus is a collection of 1200 texts about clinical trials studies and clinical trials announcements: - 500 abstracts from journals published under a Creative Commons license, e.g. available in PubMed or the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) - 700 clinical trials announcements published in the European Clinical Trials Register and Repositorio Español de Estudios Clínicos The word-embeddings were trained with fastText and using the following parameters: skipgram model, window size = 10, dimensions = 100, minimum frequency = 1, number of negatives sampled = 10, learning rate = 1e-4. We used texts from the European Medicines Agency corpus (∼13.9M tokens) and articles from the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) repository (∼25M tokens)

BIOACTIVE TRANS-RESVERATROL AS DISPERSANT OF GRAPHENE IN WATER. MOLECULAR INTERACTIONS

  • Sainz-Urruela, Carlos
  • Vera-López, Soledad
  • Diez-Pascual, Ana María
  • San Andrés, María Paz
Currently, the preparation of high-quality graphene (G) dispersions is crucial due to the increasing demand for this nanomaterial in a wide range of industries. However, given the strong π–π stacking tendency between G sheets, dispersant agents such as surfactants or polymers are required to attain stable and homogenous dispersions in liquid media. In the present project, the effectiveness of resveratrol (RV), a fluorescent bioactive compound with antioxidant activity, as a dispersing agent for G in aqueous solutions was assessed. The interaction between G and RV was investigated via absorbance, fluorescence and Raman measurements. Dispersions were prepared via bath sonication, followed by probe ultrasonication and centrifugation, though the two last stages have little effect on the dispersion quality. The addition of G causes a quenching on RV fluorescence, and its magnitude raises with increasing G concentration, being the effect stronger up to 10 mg L-1. The change in the centrifugation speed and time have hardly influence on the RV fluorescence in the presence of G. The RV content remaining in the bulk solution after G dispersion, measured via UV–Vis absorption, decreases linearly with increasing G concentration. RV can effectively disperse all the G present in the sample up to 10 mg L-1; at higher concentrations, the dispersing ability slightly decreases, and the G content is distributed between the bulk solution and the centrifuged residue. Besides, the fluorescence of RV dispersed in G is much higher in methanol than in an aqueous medium. TEM analysis confirms the good exfoliation of G upon ultrasonication in RV solutions and indicates that the layer thickness depends on the G/RV ratio. The results of this study could open new perspectives for using natural products like resveratrol as biocompatible and efficient dispersing agents of G to be used in numerous applications, especially in biomedicine.
