This datase contains the data used for the analyses included in Martínez-Castilla, P., Calet, N., & Jiménez-Fernández, G. (2023). Music skills of Spanish-speaking children with developmental language disorder. Research in Developmental Disabilities, 140. https://doi.org/10.1016/J.RIDD.2023.104575 This research studied the music skills of Spanish-speaking children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) in comparison with typically developing peers matched for chronological age. Their rhythm discrimination, melody discrimination and music memory skills were assessed as well as several language abilities. Children with DLD exhibited significantly lower performance than their typically-developing peers on all three music subtests. Music and language skills were significantly related in both groups.

EFFECT OF FERMENTATION AND BAKING ON TROPANE, OPIUM, AND PYRROLIZIDINE ALKALOIDS DURING THE HOMEMADE PREPARATION OF GLUTEN-FREE BREAD WITH POPPY SEEDS AND AROMATIC HERBS

  • Gañán Aceituno, Judith
This study investigated the effect of bread-making on the fate of 29 different tropane (TAs), opium (OAs), and pyrrolizidine (PAs) alkaloids. The variation in the content of these compounds was determined during the fermentation stage and subsequently after baking. Doughs were prepared with ingredients that were likely to be naturally contaminated and those analytes that were not naturally present were also added to monitor them through the process. In general, fermentation led to reductions in the content of TAs, OAs and PAs, with some exceptions. In contrast, fermentation plus baking resulted in greater variability, producing increases and decreases depending on the compounds. These findings emphasize the compound-specific and process-dependent nature of alkaloid transformations during bread-making and highlight that while the processes can reduce alkaloid levels, significant residues may persist or even increase due to interconversion, underscoring the importance of evaluating food processing effects on chemical contaminants in a compound-specific manner.

In this project, a novel, sustainable and pH-sensitive nanocomposite was designed for the targeted delivery of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) against breast cancer cells. The nanodelivery system is based on graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) coated with Gelatin (G)/Polyethylene glycol (PEG) biopolymers, and was prepared by W/O/W double emulsion technique using olive oil and span 80 surfactant. Successful loading of 5-FU into the nanovehicle was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses.

VDynamic light scattering corroborated the monodispersity of the nanocarriers, with a typical size between 250 and 300 nm. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed the homogeneity of the nanocomposite and its spherical shape. The average zeta potential was +35.4 mV, demonstrating the good stability of the nanocomposite. The drug loading (47%) and encapsulation efficiency (89%) were higher than those reported for other 5-FU nanocarriers.

A continuous and controlled 5-FU release from the nanovehicle was observed, and the release rate at pH 5.4 (simulating a cancerous environment) was higher than at pH 7.4 (physiological conditions). Kinetic studies suggested a diffusion controlled mechanism of 5-FU release from the nanocarrier in an acidic environment, while an anomalous transport prevails at neutral pH. The MTT assay revealed that G/PEG/g-C3N4 had a significant cytotoxicity on MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Flow cytometry indicated that G/PEG/g-C3N4/5-FU led to much higher apoptotic percentage than free 5-FU, while the free drug showed higher percentage of necroptotic cells.

This study presents a comprehensive thermodynamic analysis comparing three bio-oil steam reforming processes: traditional steam reforming, autothermal reforming, and sorption-enhanced steam reforming. Using Aspen Plus V12.1 software, simulations were performed to evaluate the hydrogen production, energy requirements, and the influence of key process variables such as temperature, pressure, or steam-to-carbon ratio. While traditional steam reforming is capable of achieving high hydrogen production, it requires substantial external energy input to drive forward the reaction given the endothermic nature of the reactions. In comparison, autothermal reforming allows thermal neutral conditions by integrating endothermic steam reforming with exothermic partial oxidation reactions. Although the energy requirements significantly decrease, it also leads to lower hydrogen yields due to its consumption in the oxidation processes. In contrast, sorption-enhanced steam reforming improves hydrogen production compared to the other configurations ascribed to the in-situ CO2 capture by using sorbents that shift the equilibrium towards hydrogen with purities over 98%, thus minimizing the need for additional gas separation processes apart from reducing the CO and CH4 formation. Additionally, the exothermic nature of CO2 capture reactions contributes to reducing the energy requirements or even generates excess energy at certain conditions that can be used as a heat source. The bio-oil composition, showed minor variations in hydrogen yields, making these findings applicable to different bio-oil compositions.

This work explores the effect of CeO2 incorporation into Co/SBA-15 catalysts on hy-drogen production through acetic acid oxidative steam reforming as a bio-oil aqueous phase model compound. CeO2 was incorporated (5–30 wt.%) to improve the physico-chemical properties of the catalyst. XRD analysis confirmed that CeO2 addition resulted in smaller Co0 mean crystallite sizes, while H2-TPR showed enhanced reducibility properties. The catalytic performance was evaluated in the 400–700°C range, S/C molar ratio = 2, O2/C molar ratio = 0.0375, WHSV = 30.2 h-1, and P = 1 atm. Catalysts containing 10 and 20 wt.% of CeO2 exhibited the best catalytic performance, achieving nearly complete conversions and H2 yield values approaching thermodynamic equilibrium at 550 °C. Both samples maintained an acetic acid conversion above 90% after 30 h of time-on-stream with H2 yields above 55 % along the steam reforming tests. This agrees with their lower coke formation rate (7.2 and 12.0 mgcoke·gcat-1·h-1 for Co/10CeO2-SBA15 and Co/20CeO2-SBA15, respectively).
