ENZYMATIC DETOXIFICATION STRATEGIES FOR NEUROTOXIC INSECTICIDES IN ADULT TORTRICIDS

We assess the main detoxification metabolic mechanisms to three neurotoxic insecticides in male and female adults of three economically important tortricid moth pests [Cydia pomonella (L.), Grapholita molesta (Busck), and Lobesia botrana (Denis & Schiffermüller)]. Statistical analysis shows that phase I enzymatic activities were important in both sexes of three species, whereas phase II enzymes were only important in G. molesta. As well, EST played a role in detoxification process of all insecticides tested. MFO are involved in detoxification process of thiacloprid and activation of chlorpyrifos in both sexes of three species. L. botrana has a particular profile compare to the two other species with enhanced activity of GST and MFO in males compare to females. Inhibition tests followed by enzymatic measurement reveal significant inhibition for EST with DEF. Although MFO and GST were not inhibited by PBO and DEM respectively at the tested time. Inhibition across time was observed with PBO in G. molesta and L. botrana, results shown differences in amounts of MFO measured at different times after inhibition, which were distinct between males and females., Dades primàries associades a un article publicat a la revista Bulletin of Entomological Research disponible a l'adreça https://doi.org/10.1017/S0007485319000415

Intensively managed grasslands are globally prominent ecosystems. We investigated whether experimental increases in plant diversity in intensively managed grassland communities can increase their resource use efficiency. This work consisted of a coordinated, continental-scale 33-site experiment. The core design was 30 plots, representing 15 grassland communities at two seeding densities. The 15 communities were comprised of four monocultures (two grasses and two legumes) and 11 four-species mixtures that varied in the relative abundance of the four species at sowing. There were 1028 plots in the core experiment, with another 572 plots sown for additional treatments. Sites agreed a protocol and employed the same experimental methods with certain plot management factors, such as seeding rates and number of cuts, determined by local practice. The four species used at a site depended on geographical location, but the species were chosen according to four functional traits: a fast-establishing grass, a slow-establishing persistent grass, a fast-establishing legume, and a slow-establishing persistent legume. As the objective was to maximize yield for intensive grassland production, the species chosen were all high-yielding agronomic species. The data set contains species-specific biomass measurements (yield per species and of weeds) for all harvests for up to four years at 33 sites. Samples of harvested vegetation were also analyzed for forage quality at 26 sites. Analyses showed that the yield of the mixtures exceeded that of the average monoculture in >97% of comparisons. Mixture biomass also exceeded that of the best monoculture (transgressive overyielding) at about 60% of sites. There was also a positive relationship between the diversity of the communities and aboveground biomass that was consistent across sites and persisted for three years. Weed invasion in mixtures was very much less than that in monocultures.
These data should be of interest to ecologists studying relationships between diversity and ecosystem function and to agronomists interested in sustainable intensification. The large spatial scale of the sites provides opportunity for analyses across spatial (and temporal) scales. The database can also complement existing databases and meta-analyses on biodiversity–ecosystem function relationships in natural communities by focusing on those same relationships within intensively managed agricultural grasslands., Dades primàries associades a un article publicat a la revista Journal of Applied Ecology disponible a l'adreça https://doi.org/10.1111/1365-2664.12991

Abstract: Laboratory work is essential in most applied science and engineering specific coursers. The continuous advances in Information and Communication Technologies be able the use of online laboratories (OLs). Their use is increased due to the advantages they offer compared to conventional laboratories, as unfortunately verified during Covid-19 pandemic. OLs and Learning Management Systems (LMSs) are key technologies in the learning process field. Normally, the integration of OLs with LMSs is carried out using proprietary or ad-hoc solutions. Furthermore, there are standards that can be used for this integration, such as: LTI, IEEE P92741.1 (xAPI), SCORM and IEEE1876. This work elaborates a survey which has been provided to the experts of online laboratories for them to complete. Gathered information allowed authors to diagnose the level of knowledge and use of the main standards for creating and integrating OLs. In fact, the analysis of this information confirms that there is a lack of criteria for selecting one standard against the others and how use it in the online laboratory development. This work gives guidelines for selecting the most appropriate standard according to desired characteristics of the online laboratory under development.

This study explores the role of personal resources, specifically vigor at work (a positive affect generated by the ongoing interactions in the workplace) and weekly physical activity (PA), in the stress-mental health relationship, given the positive relationships found between PA and levels of vigor experienced on health. Thus, we hypothesized that vigor at work would mediate the relationship between job stress and workers’ mental health, whereas weekly PA would moderate the relationship between stress and vigor at work. Five hundred and twenty-seven workers completed self-report scales for stress, weekly PA, vigor at work, and mental health. The results showed that vigor at work was related to better mental health, whereas stress was related to high psychological problems and low vigor at work. The interaction between stress and weekly PA on vigor was significant, indicating a counterproductive effect of weekly PA. Specifically, the negative relationship between stress and vigor at work was greater when doing weekly PA. In this vein, high levels of weekly PA would not have a favorable impact when workers experience high levels of stress, consuming part of vigor at work and reducing the positive effect of vigor at work on mental health by coping with stress., This research was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the project PID2020-116521RB-I00, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, and by a predoctoral fellowship (FPU18/00302).

Teaching practice involves continuous exposure to stress situations. Given the scarcity of studies that identify coping patterns from a person-centered approach we intended to: 1) identify coping profiles in teachers; 2) analyze whether perceived emotional intelligence determines the probability of belonging to the identified profiles; and 3) test whether membership in a particular profile is related to a health outcome such as burnout. Two hundred and fifty teachers (161 women) participated in the study by responding to the Trait Meta-Mood Scale for the evaluation of perceived emotional intelligence, the COPE questionnaire for the evaluation of coping strategies and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey for the evaluation of burnout. A latent profile analysis yielded three profiles: 1) “adaptive copers”; 2) “behavioural evaders with broad strategies”; and 3) “cognitive evaders with consumption-based strategies”. Results show that the emotional intelligence dimensions contribute to explaining membership in related profiles with better health outcomes. In terms of profile-related outcomes, the profile of “cognitive evaders with consumption-based strategies” shows the highest levels of burnout., This research was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033 project number PID2020-116521RB-I00 and by a predoctoral fellowship (FPU18/00302).
