This is an interventional study (quasi-experimental) without a control group, conducted in a hospital surgical unit to improve the waste segregation process during surgical procedures. The study was carried out between May 2023 and 2024 in a Catalan University Hospital with 380 beds, a surgical unit with 16 operating rooms, 320 professionals, and a total of 27,990 surgical procedures performed in 2023.
The study was structured into three phases:
Phase 1: Baseline assessment of professionals' perceptions of recycling and measurement of plastic and cardboard recycling levels during surgical procedures.
Phase 2: A motivational intervention was conducted for all surgical unit professionals, and the segregation process was progressively implemented.
Phase 3: Full implementation of the recycling circuit.
The interventional study is based on the socio-ecological model (Sallis JF et al., 2006) (10.1146/annurev.publhealth.27.021405.102100).
The independent variable in this study is the multilevel program aimed at improving segregation during the surgical process. Data collection was conducted according to each phase of the study using questionnaires addressed to professionals, checklists during the perioperative process, and measurements of the volume of material segregation by type (plastic, paper, etc.). The carbon footprint and waste segregation volume were calculated throughout all phases.
Before implementing the motivational intervention for professionals, an ad hoc questionnaire was administered to assess their motivation for waste segregation in the workplace. The questionnaire comprised seven questions, with professional category as the only sociodemographic data collected. The remaining questions used a numerical rating scale from 0 to 10 to evaluate respondents' level of concern and engagement in recycling in their personal lives, as well as their interest in adopting recycling practices in their work environment.
Follow-up questionnaires were administered throughout the implementation process to gather perceptions regarding the segregation process. The final questionnaire also assessed overall satisfaction with the implemented recycling program and the perceived need for its implementation in other hospitals.
To quantify the degree of segregation, the number of bags, kilograms per day, and kilograms per week were calculated for each type of material.

A COMPILATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF FOREST RESTORATION PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES IN SPAIN
- Àvila, Aitor
- Madrid Ayala, Victoria Paz
- Erdozain Ibarra, Maitane
- Miguel Magaña, Sergio de
This dataset compiles a catalogue of forest restoration and adaptation projects and activities in Spain. The compilation was mainly carried out through a systematic search of European funding programme databases (such as LIFE, INTERREG, or SUDOE) and national sources (such as Fundación Biodiversidad). Additionally, initiatives not recorded in databases were identified through expert networks and partner organisations.
The database includes over 350 projects and provides detailed information on various aspects such as title, acronym, geographical scope, start and end dates, summary, degradation causes, restoration objectives, main outcomes, budget, funding source, coordinating entity, among others.
To complement the collected information and facilitate analysis, all projects have been categorised according to their objectives, degradation causes, and type of restoration undertaken, using predefined sets of categories.
This dataset was developed within the framework of the REFORADAPT project, with the support of Fundación Biodiversidad from the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through its grant call for projects contributing to the implementation of the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2021–2030.
The dataset is provided as a CSV file, where each row represents a project and each column corresponds to an associated variable. A README file with the corresponding metadata is also included, available in both English (README_en.txt) and Spanish (README_es.txt) versions.

MULTI-SENSOR DEVICE FOR POLICE FIREARM MONITORING RAW DATASET
- Gairí Pallarés, Pau
- Tresanchez Ribes, Marcel
- Pallejà Cabrè, Tomàs
The following dataset consists of pre-labeled multivariate time-series vectors collected from a firearm monitoring device. It includes data from a piezoelectric sensor, which captures vibrations generated by the firearm, and a photoelectric sensor, which measures the remaining number of rounds in the firearm's magazine. The labeled classes in the dataset represent typical firearm manipulations, including shots, reloads, and other related actions.
The data was collected between March and May 2025 at the shooting training camp in Lleida by police instructors and specialized officers. The structure and format of the dataset are designed to support the training of deep learning algorithms for classifying event labels or extracting other metadata from the combined sensor data.

We provide a deep-learning method to better estimate the size of partially occluded apples. The method is based on ORCNN (https://github.com/waiyulam/ORCNN) and sizecnn (https://git.wur.nl/blok012/sizecnn), which extended Mask R-CNN network to simultaneously perform modal and amodal instance segmentation. The amodal mask is used to estimate the fruit diameter in pixels, while the modal mask is used to measure in the depth map the distance between the detected fruit and the camera and calculate the fruit diameter in mm by applying the pinhole camera model.

REPLICATION DATA FOR: EXPLORING THE PREBIOTIC POTENTIAL OF DIETARY FIBRE CONCENTRATES FROM ARTICHOKE, RED PEPPER, CUCUMBER, AND CARROT BY-PRODUCTS
- Álvarez Vaz, Ana
- Odriozola Serrano, Isabel
- Oms Oliu, Gemma
- Martín Belloso, Olga
- Bellí i Martínez, Gemma
Using an in vitro colonic digestion model, we explored the prebiotic potential of dietary fibre concentrates (DFCs) derived from artichoke, red pepper, cucumber, and carrot byproducts. In vitro colonic digestions were carried out for up to 48 hours to simulate colonic digestion. Gut microbiota were assessed at 24 and 48 hours using quantitative PCR targeting key microbial taxa, including Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Clostridium, Bifidobacterium, Enterococcus, Lactobacillus, Bacteroidaceae, and Enterobacteriaceae. DNA was extracted using the QIAamp Fast DNA Stool Mini Kit and quantified using a NanoDrop spectrophotometer. Microbial abundance was normalized to total Eubacteria and calculated using the 2^ÐDelta-Delta Ct method.
In parallel, Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) productions (acetic, propionic, and butyric acids) were assed at 3, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 48 hours using gas chromatography coupled with flame ionization. Total SCFA concentrations and SCFA profiles were calculated to evaluate microbial metabolic activity in response to the different DFCs. Additionally, pH values were also recorded over time, using a pH meter.
